Finally! Some adults in the room!

Pay attention kids, doing drugs in your 60's is still a bad thing..... !   Maybe the damage was done years ago but I think Tio Vinny is off the rails now.......    Now for a dose of reality, just tune into MSNBC, CNN, PBS, ABC, CBS, NBC........    Oh, so I was wrong.   Over to Fox and the BBC now for the real story.   The truth, and "Russians" still live in Russia, that is all..........    Chris

Never...going... to... happen.   Keep grasping at straws. Congress is controlled by Reps. No way in hell do they stretch the interpretation of the 25th to  appoint a Congressional oversight panel to declare Trump incompacitated.  Not just for political reasons, but for  practical reasons. There would be freaking riots in the streets were a sitting president removed from office for "mean tweets" (which is a great, humorous comedy bit on Kimmel...google it). Think it through man!  No way Trump supporters just say, "Duh, ok."

Are you so myopic in your hatred that you fail to see there is no practical or legitimate way to change the outcome of the last election? Time to grow up and accept that thing don't always go your way. I had to eat 8 years of Obama's globalist, socialist agenda, you can suffer through 4 years of bloviating barely conservative asshat.

Crazy report for July 2 -

On Sunday, Trump put his pugilistic instincts on display for all the world to see, circulating a doctored video clip that showed him physically attacking a crudely rendered stand-in for CNN, then walking away with a grimace of satisfaction.

http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-pol-trump-mock-beating-20170702-story.html

Last week, White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders insisted that the president “in no way, form or fashion” promoted or encouraged violence.

Most are suggesting to Trump that when he finds himself in a hole, he should STOP DIGGING.  Today, it appears he has traded his shovel in for a backhoe.

We do indeed have a 14 year-old in the White House.

I think the tweets against that airhead Mika were unprofessional and unPresidential. I thought the CNN one was bizarre, but hilarious. If you really think he is advocating violence against reporters, you're a moron.  Where was the outrage when Obama was actually using the power of the state against reporters?

As for the press. Mika had been calling Trump names for ages. Also, unprofessional and unbecoming her profession.  The girly men getting all "offended" by those tweets must have left their man bits in their husband's purse. Wahhh! Waaaahhhh! The President is mocking me! Whatever. We know Donald is immature that way.  I have no high expectations for the Pres. but frankly, I expect more from the press.

You know how you take away a blowhard's power? You stop giving it to them. The more the media gets itself into a self-righteous frenzy, the more they empower the Donald and make themselves look silly.

Much ado about nothing (in the big picture).

Joe - one point:  You interpret Trump's activities one way, but others will interpret them in other ways.  A president is supposed to lead by example, right?  We always hear it.  The examples emanating from the White House these days are horrid.  some members of our population interpret them as validation of their more uncivil instincts and gives them permission to go act on them.  Not everyone thinks like you do.  We're headed for some ugly times because of the examples being set in Washington today.  We're going to have to change the name of the nation to the Non-united States.

And what do you think would have happened if Obama had posted a similar video where he's punching out Shawn Hannity?  All hell breaking loose?  Obama did exactly as you propose.  He ignored the daily pounding he got from right wing talk radio.  But for some reason, Obama is still the bad guy?

Nah. If you really believe it sets the tone, I must have missed all your outrage at all the Dem Senators/Congresspeople/newsmen/actors calling for violence against the President/Conservatives...oh yeah, the only ACTUAL political violence has been perpetrated by the left.

You illustrate my point - you have one view, Trump supporters have another.  People in Montana applauded the congressional guy who punched out a reporter few weeks ago.  I saw a poll last week that said something like 28% of Trump supporters think it's OK to punch out the press, literally.

And if you think Trumps Twitter shenanigans don't influence people, you've missed the main objective of the $800B advertising industry - mainly to influence people by showing them images on TV.  It works.

ANTIFA.......!    Those are the violent ones in this country.   They should be designated as an official terrorist group.   The MSM and the lefties here seem to be fixated on "Neo Nazis" and "White Supremacists" who really do nothing but get beat up by the hoards of anarchists and ANTIFA's at their rallies, yes, all 12 to maybe 15 of them...   Beat up by hundreds to thousands of "tolerant" leftists.  As a journalist who_do you should not be looking the other way, not seeing it, not recognizing it.  But then again you won't be reading this.........   Chris

Yawn. Trump has 30 million followers on Twitter (half of which are claimed to be bots by the left). That means only one in eleven people follow his tweets at best, and only 1 in 22 is probably more likely. It is a niche. The press likes to get all wound up about things that make no difference to regular people going about their daily business. It comes from their bubble boy lifestyle. Especially the coastal or beltway press. They live in a self induced fantasy world that is reinforced by everyone they surround themselves with and denies any viewpoint other than their own (see college campuses for another  prime example).

They have NO COMPREHENSION that us "average Joes" think far differently than them. They look down with disdain at the guns and bibles crowd, conservatives,  blue collar workers, the wealthy, pro America (anti illegal) middle America and entrepreneurs (you didn't build that). Their incessant wailing and gyrations are increasingly falling on deaf ears as the men behind the curtain have been exposed as ideologues.

I have wanted to punch press.  Every time I see a family tragedy being plastered across the news with reporters camping ont he front lawn, I want the homeowner to come walking out the front door with a shotgun and tell them to get the f off their property.  Bad behavior deserves punishment, and the press have behaved very poorly for years. DOn't expect me to cry for the snowflakes that have let their personal biases completely destroy any credibility they have.

Did you watch the Whittle video? You claim the advetising agencies are effective. I think that is overstated, but lets agree that they are to some extent. When you have a biased press rooting for a candidate, don't you think that affects elections? It has been claimed that the press can account for 15 points in an election. Check out the video to see how the electoral map would have looked with a FAIR press.

I chuckle when folks decry the violence from the left, and then later on call them "snowflakes".   Which is it?  Violent maniacs or "snowflakes"?  they can't be both.

And you say that advertising isn't very effective.  Music to the ears of the advertising industry.  They've accomplished their objective of influencing you without you even knowing it.  Corporations don't spend $800B a year on advertising because they think it doesn't work.  The advertising and marketing industries are incredibly sophisticated using techniques like pinpoint target marketing, subliminal messaging, websearch tracking, etc.  They influence you and you don't even know it.  GOLD!  Simple example - The marketers want you to think the 128 oz bottle of laundry detergent is less expensive than two 64 oz bottles of the same detergent.  Makes sense, right?  They've trained you to believe that.  Little do you know that 65% of the time, the 128 oz bottle costs more than two 64 oz bottles.  In fact, they've got you trained so well that you NEVER check it.  Another example - Target Stores are the master of influence marketing.  Let's say a pregnant woman with a Target card enters the store.  they have scanners around the entry doors so they know when she passes thru.  Here's the scary part - By monitoring what she buys,Target knows when this woman enters her 2nd trimester BEFORE SHE EVEN KNOWS IT.  And they're right 82% of the time.  They can then influence her with coupon books, website ads, social media banner ads, and a few other techniques to influence her purchasing.  If you get a coupon book in the mail from Target, compare it to the coupon book your neighbor gets.  They'll be different.  Every book is tailored to fit the recipient's buying habits.  Target has their customers by the gonads and they don't even know it.

One more thing - what part of the 1st amendment says the press has to be fair and balanced?  It would be wonderful if it was, but then it would no longer be free, would it?  And doesn't right wing talk radio come unglued every time someone utters "Fairness Doctrine"?  I agree the main stream press has gone overboard covering Trump on many issues.  But they have that right.

Speak for yourself on advertising being effective. I DO check price per oz. I DONT buy something because I heard an advertisement. I prerecord and skip all televised commercials. I have ad blockers, and do not allow cookies for most sites. I have used duck duck go instead of Google. I am not on facebook. I minimize my online profile. I opt out of mailing lists. I generally get VERY little email advertising. If the contractor's board would stop giving away my phone number, I would have zero junk phone calls. I use direct debit, so I receive nearly zero mail of import. Most "direct advertising" goes right into recycle. Really, the only time I get any directed advertising is if I make the mistake of using google on my phone. Then I just ignore it anyway. So no. They don't subliminally influence me. They don't overtly influence me. They WASTE their advertising budget on people like me.  But hey, spend away advertisers.

As for press. No, they are not obligated to be fair or balanced. However, they have for decades sought to create the image that they were. That image is crumbling, and with it, their appeal to large segments of the population.  The Fairness doctrine is crap. Forced thought at the point of the government gun.  Let the markets decide whose voice for news and infotainment should survive.

Did you catch CNN's latest press faux paux? They essentially threatened the creator of the wrestling video with doxing (releasing name, address, where he works, etc) after they hounded him into apologizing (for what? I have no idea) if he didn't remain contrite.  Very mafia-esque...and they were getting HAMMERED for it on social media with the hashtag #CNNBlackmail trending at number1 for awhile. Several internet heavies intimated that they would release the names and addresses of all CNN employees as well as advertisers.  Why they even hunted him down is beyond me.  Oh yeah, CNN also provided a quote from Lincoln and Franklin on July 4....only problem was, they weren't quotes. That is real journalism folks!

Joe, you're wasting your time...........    Who_doop is a dyed in the wool progressive who's only job here is to be long winded, to keep us responding to his little novellas, nonsense postings, to defend the left wing press (who he is a part of), and to take shots at capitalism and corporations.   I don't have him on ignore but I just speed read his postings....    All the same turds just in a different place on the lawn every day.....   One good thing about who_doop is that he provides validation and a friend to Tio Vinny..........   Oh, and he seems to not like Target but I bet most of his grandchildren's back to school clothes are from Target every year.....!   Chris

Joe -

1)  Don't need to speak for myself regarding the effectiveness of advertising.  I've seen the data.  It's impressive.

2)  So you take precautions to shield yourself from the marketeers.  that's good.   Most people don't and the marketeers know it.  Here's another precaution - never take your phone into any store.  When you walk thru the door, they know who you are, they follow you around, and they are collecting your shopping habits.  They even measure the amount of time you linger in front of a particular display or product section.  The best at it are Target, Nordstrom, and some large sporting good stores.  Leave your phone in the car.

3)  And if you think you're immune from incredibly sophisticated marketing techniques, you're naive.  Walk into a Raley's and you're bombarded with marketing schemes that you have no idea are happening.  First, the layout of the store and organization of each product section are designed down the the square inch to get you to buy more stuff.  Ever wonder why the milk is always in the back of the store?  Ever wonder why the Frosted Flakes are one shelf lower than the Cheerios?  Ever wonder why every fifth buggy has a wheel that vibrates and makes noise?  Ever wonder why items on the end caps are never on sale?  Ever wonder why the background music will only play songs that are in 4/4 or 2/4 time signature?  Never 3/4 or 6/8?  Ever wonder why the Pork & Beans are never in the beans or pork sections?  All of those plus a dozen other things are part of extremely sophisticated marketing.  And the genius is people are being manipulated and have no clue.

I am not naive. I am fully aware of the reasons stores pick certain layouts, music, etc. So no, I never wondered about that. I am also aware of why certain colors are used and images and names.. So I reiterate, despite the AVERAGE person being fodder for the "sophisticated" advertisers, I am intelligent enough to recognize their games and refuse to play them.
