Ok, how about the fact that the Catholic Church is now trying to keep sacraments from politicians that support laws that benefit the LGBT community (ie same-sex marriage, civil unions, anti-discrimination laws, etc)? Would you care about that?

It has been 7 years since Matthew Shepard died from the brutal hate crime committed against him in Laramie. It was because of Matthew Shepard that many anti-discrimination laws supporting LGBT citizens got passed.

His murder put the issue of protecting students into the forefront of the nation. It also brought about an awareness to Rev. Phelps, who protested Matthew Shepard's funeral, making people aware of how much hatred can be shown towards another human for no other reason other than "the bible says it's wrong."

People feel that we have come a long way since the 1960's and the open discrimination against blacks, yet take a look at Rev. Phelp's website and you'll see that the hatred still exists today.

Consider the situation with the Blacks- even after many many years, it still exists-
Or consider the bias against females in the world, same type of situation-
The gay community has and will gain acceptance on a greater scale but the fight for equality and the elimnation of hate crimes will likely never end....

Intersesting news today-

Poll finds divides between Vatican, US Catholics

By Michael Conlon

CHICAGO (Reuters) - More than two-thirds of U.S. Roman Catholics don't think it is very important to have an all-male, celibate clergy, a belief the Vatican continues to hold strongly, according to a survey published on Wednesday.

The same poll also found that less than half of those questioned placed a high importance on their church's opposition to same-sex marriage, abortion and the death penalty.

The research, published by the National Catholic Reporter, came as the Vatican was embarking on an inspection of more than 200 U.S. seminaries intended to find out if aspiring priests are being properly schooled in celibacy and to uncover any evidence of homosexuality.

A student's lawsuit alleging he was expelled from his Christian high school after telling a chaplain he is gay is headed for Florida state's Supreme Court.

A divided 4th District Court of Appeal asked the high court Wednesday to decide if the chaplain should have protected Jeffrey Woodard's confidentiality during the 2003 conversation.

Whether Woodard and his mother, Carol Gload, can seek damages from Jupiter Christian School depends on whether the school chaplain in whom he confided can be sued for inflicting emotional distress, according to an opinion written by Judge Melanie May.

The state Supreme Court has never ruled on whether clergy must protect a person's confidentiality, as do attorneys and psychologists, May wrote in Wednesday's ruling.

Woodard, now 20, sued the school for breach of contract after being expelled three days into his senior year.

Woodard claims the chaplain pulled him out of Bible class and asked him in confidence if he was gay.

When Woodard answered "yes," a school official called his mother and told her Woodard could not attend an upcoming school retreat unless he and Gload met with the school to talk about Woodard's sexual orientation, according to the lawsuit.

Gload has said the school told them Woodard could get either counseling for his "problem," voluntarily withdraw from the school or be expelled.

"I didn't think Jeffrey needed therapy," Gload said in 2003. When she told that to school officials, they expelled her son, she said.

I'm all for equal rights, but I'm also for protecting the decisions of private organizations. Unlike registered officials like doctors and psychologists, it does not sound like priests are required by law to retain confidentiality.

This was likely (hopefully actually, since it was a religious organization) a private school. IMHO, a private school should have the right to discriminate at will. It's private!

Now, if our tax dollars are sponsoring them, they should be bound to follow public laws regarding discrimination, but if I want to start a " censored.gif redheads! " club, I should as a private citizen have the right to do so. I am entitled to my personal opinion, and I should be entitled to meet privately and exclusively with others who share my opinion.

I understand how you could see them as discriminatory, because they are! But I fully respect their right to be how they want to be privatly! Just not with public money, that's all!

The fact these guys are suing the private organization affects me financially, so in this case I favor the school. Not to condone their beliefs, but to protect their right to have them.

Something a little closer to home for us....

History teacher resigns because of alleged discrimination

By Catherine Bradshaw and Nathalie Rayter

Students, parents, and faculty alike responded in saddened shock on Wednesday when veteran teacher Brandee Ambrosia suddenly resigned from her post at the most recent Rocklin school board meeting.
“I’ve consistently stuck my head out there for the little guy,” Ambrosia said tearfully. “Please accept this resignation, effective immediately.”

Ambrosia, who has taught at Rocklin High School for 11 years, attributed her resignation to the discrimination she alleges she has received as a result of being club adviser to the Gay-Straight Alliance.

According to some, God already hates the United States As well as the LGBT community.

These are people you have something in common with. I'm glad you guys think on the same level, and I feel safer in this country when graduations are protested by Rev. Phelps and his (stealing a quote from you Chad) "f'd up in the head" followers because the school has a GSA.

That kid needs counselling. A Christian high school is where he can get the best counselling available and become straight in the eyes of the lord again, no pun intended.

Homosexuality needs to be treated, not hated. Kids shouldn't be expelled for having the flu right? They're treated, so treat this too.

October 17,1920 -

Actor Montgomery Clift is born in Omaha Nebraska. Clift brought in intensity to the screen that was studied by and copied by others, most notably Marlon Brando. His sexuality was carefully guarded from fans but few in Hollywood did not know. Clift burned himself out and was dead at the age of 46.
