It probably also has a lot to do with the demographics of the viewing audience.
I bet the audience is quite skewed toward middle-age and up. A lot of grandmas are saying, "That Taylor is so doggone cute, and he sings my kind of music!" and picking up their phones.
The voting audience may not overlap very much with the people who will actually go out and buy albums... Was it Camay who said he called in 200 votes for Taylor?? Camay, do you buy albums??!
I agree that the audience may be skewed toward middle-age and up (I'm in that demographic). I probably called in around 250 votes for Taylor. Solid dialing/redialing for a full hour, then my fingers and hands got tired. I would definately buy an album by Taylor. Not so much for Chris, although I agreed that he was good in that genre. It's just not the genre I typically buy. I have also purchased Kelly Clarkson's cds, and Clay Aiken's CD.
The other thing they always stress when something like this happens, is that you ALWAYS need to vote for the person you think should win. Sometimes, people feel sorry for the underdogs, and make the assumption that their favorite is so popular that they don't need to vote for them....unfortunately, if too many people do that, then the results turn out as they did last night. Plus, there are people who watch AI, and loved Chris, but never voted! And today they're shocked.
