You still haven't replied to my post Chipshot. Are you a friend or relative of the deceased?

If you are that would help explain some of your angst. It would also help to change the dynamics of this conversation.

Did you know her well?

Wow! That's the first time anyone has made that claim! That should be front page news.

If that were true, then I think the parents of those boys would be fighting tooth and nail to get the charges dropped. The fact that they are pleading guilty would indicate otherwise.

How do you have access to that video? Can you post it so we can see it to?

I think you'd have a lot more people on the side of the kids if video shows her speeding, driving recklessly, and pulling out in front of speeding cars that were in plain view.

One is rarely compelled to consider the politics that go into printing a news story, especially a high profile case like this where there is an alleged perpetrator and a victim. I wonder if the Bee and/or any news outlets know about this video but are under pressure from the DAs office not to show it or discuss it? Are Bee writers politically driven into decisions about how they posture stories? Do they have to work with the DA's office on a daily office in a mutually cooperative spirit and will they go to great lengths to avoid pissing them off?

I wonder if the parents desire to "fight tooth and nail" to get the charges dropped have been muzzled by their own defense lawyers who will come up with every reason under the sun why a particular strategy is the way to go and what will ultimately save their kid(s)?

I wonder if the kids defense lawyers have basically muzzled the parents comments, telling them by speaking out they risk pissing off the Judge?

I wonder if fighting trumped up charges once you've been charged is like fighting with your hands tied behind your back?

Don't need 10, here's 2:

1. Kids racing,

2. Susan killed by kids racing.

Game over. CYA, here they come. Glad I could help.

Doug...

That sounds like a valid opinion based on the news media reports at the start of this case. The police said they had a bunch of witnesses and now they have the CHP report showing the kids going 90mph. They Folsom Police claim to have overwhelming evidence against these kids and wanted them for Second degree murder and tried as adults.

Can you remember that far back?

The DA is not offering any plea deals - yet the boys are in juvenile court and the DA dropped the street racing charges?

What happened?

I just hope the CYA isn't some kind of cushy vacation. They should suffer the same way Susan suffered when they killed her. I wouldn't want any of my loved one's to die such a violent, bloody, and broken-boned death. They EARNED the right to spend a few years locked-up, folks.
I have opinions, you have opinions. We'll just call it even...is that OK ??

If its a fact they were street racing, why did the DA drop the charges?

Does anyone know exactly what is the legal definition of street racing?

When you and another car are doing 70-90 MPH in a 45 zone, leave long skid marks, and leave an innocent person dead of a bloody, bone-crushing blow to the side of her car. Nuff said. Hope the CYA is open 24 hours.

I understand what you are saying, but I have been pulled over for going the speed limit. I was not ticketed, but was told that I was holding up traffic.

Oh well. Then let's all hold up traffic.

If that happened to me, I'd be raising a stick at the officer's expense instead. Hmm, we can stop law abiding citizens for holding up those who are breaking the law? Tax money gone wrong, people!

Again, we can use excuses, or we can make sure that make the right choices. This isn't just about speeding, this is about everything. Ethics in America is an oxymoron.

I think there are just a lot of different ideas of what is right and what is wrong. I think going with the flow of traffic (JUST FOR EXAMPLE) is a lot safer then going the speed limit.

People will always disagree on when it is ok to bend the law, and when it is NOT.

Speeding on Iron Point, and in Folsom in general, is a major problem.

You ain't kiddin'. As recent bay area transplants, my wife and I immediately noticed the need for speed here, which was pretty surprising considering Folsom's fabled small town vibe. Anyone have any ideas why speeding is such a problem here?

It's illegal and feeds the problem. Easy choice for me.

because we have long streets that noone else (usually, I know not always!) is on... while your bay area streets are long and have so dang many people you are happy to go 35! biggrin.gif

Does that apply to EVERY law we have? (just asking... I like your opinions (well most of them haahaa!), so please don't think I am being a banana-chip on you) smile.gif

I try very hard to do the right thing. In determining the "right" thing, I take into account how my actions affect others, how they affect the common good and what's safe for me and my family. On Iron Point, I go 45. If people don't like it, they can go around me. I'm not going to purposefully position myself next to another who's going 45 to hold those behind me to the speed limit, but if I need to take a left turn, I stay in the left turn lane so I can make the turn. Otherwise, I move to the right. I think about the cyclists (yes, I like to ride a bike), pedestrian safety (what I personally work to champion) and how these things, along obeying the law teaches my kids a good lesson.

So, yeah, I try to apply these thoughts to every law. I think Americans (in general, perhaps bad to over-generalize) are selfish, uncaring people who have stopped looking out for the common good. Just trying to buck the trend.

It's not illegal. This is straight from the California Driver Handbook 2007

Regardless of the posted speed limit, your speed should depend on:

The number and speed of other vehicles on the road.
Whether the road surface is smooth, rough, graveled, wet, dry, wide, or narrow.
Bicyclists or pedestrians walking on the road’s edge.
Whether it is raining, foggy, snowing, windy, or dusty.

So ignoring the speed limit and exceeding it isn't illegal?

I can appreciate that.

Every time I want to make a left from Black Diamond onto Iron Point on my Motorcycle I have to wait until I THINK it is clear, close my eyes, floor it, and pray no one hits me! (I do not really close my eyes!) but it is hard to turn left on that street unless you are at a light! It is a big blind corner.

I think they should make everything RIGHT TURN ONLY except at a light. (Ingersoll has a light!)
