some of you don't know the rules...
American Idol never said you couldn't have experience...
They just said to enter you had to be under 30 and NOT BE UNDER A RECORDING CONTRACT...
They didn't say if you had a contract that is now expired disqualifies you...
And come on...
Every one of these singers has at least some band experience doing gigs... you have to know how to use a mic... you know when to hold it close to your mouth and when to take it away a bit... you have to know timing and rythum...
Using your voice takes practice... you don't come out of the shower and then start singing.. if your voice isn't used to singing.. you will get hoarse real quick...
You have to know how to breath when you are singing and to use your diaphram to project out... I'm no singing coach... but I have experience playing several differant bands in my lifetime and doing lots and lots of gigs.. concert type and clubs.. lots of clubs...
All of these folks have had experience.. it's just the first year they have allowed them to use instruments...
NOW.... as for the talent...
On CNN's Larry King if any body watched it last Monday night they had all three judges and Seacrest on the show and they handicaped all the constestants...
They all agreed that in their opinion that it would be down to DAVID AND DAVID at the end...
They all liked Brooke... Randy said he'd sign up Kristy Lee... remember she had a great evening the week before...
While Simon thought at first Carly was the one to beat... he's pointed out more than once that she has not "distinguished" herself enough to be "memorable"... which is the goal...
That happened to Michael Johns...
From this point on.. it's going to be really hard.. but hey you don't have to win to get a hit record... season 5 gave us Kelli Pickler (my favorite) and Chris Daughtry and they were what 6th and 4th that year... what ever happened to Taylor Hicks from that year...?
Michael Johns is a lead singer and he's just got to find the right band to get into and if what I read about him was true that he took some songs from his old band and said they were his and they weren't then this was just some plain old "what comes around goes around" moments for him...
I can't wait for next week...
Does anyone know the theme for next week...?

I know what the rules are, but the show has been touted as looking for America's best undiscovered talent. To the average person, that means the farm boy with a dream or the inner city kid with skills but no connections, or perhaps the guy who's been singing in local clubs but hasn't gotten a break. It's not the girl who's been touring small venues around the country, or the one who's been dropped from their record.
I'm all for giving second chances, but American Idol should be about first chances.
Maybe they should start a show where all of the contestants are trying to make a come back or otherwise get a second chance. I'd watch it.

Actually, the most important topic is Brush(es) with Greatness. Gotta pay attention

Oh! I'll get right over there!
And here I was thinking about how much interest my retirement IRA's are losing and how much my house has gone down in value!
Not to mention the war, illegal immigration, the death toll of the MS13 gangs, the economy and the over all corruption of our government.
What was I thinking????

So, shat famous people have you met?
None.....want to introduce me to some? Gee, now who do I want to meet that would impact my life in a positive way?
Or is that important? I guess maybe it's more important in how famous they are, right?

I remember a local gal around the peninusla back in 70-80's who was never really a big star but then got a huge hit in 89... any body remember Bonnie Raitt...?
just because you are a local or regional group doesn't mean you are a star...
And that's what they are looking for...
These are young people for the most part... what... most of them in their early 20's... I think Kellie Pickler was only 20 when she entered.. I don't think she had much experience.. just cause of the age factor....
What you see on the stage is "natural talent" that hasn't been discovered... and just because you have a record contract... if it's not promoted.. you aren't kicking butt in the "regional" clubs and night life.. you are not going to get discovered...
I think AI has done a pretty good job of bringing some great talent... I knew Chris Daughtry had some experience... and Taylor Hicks was the lead singer in a Southern Blues Band...
You can tell these folks today have experience on the stage... but it's pretty hard to come into an audition singing in front of three judges with your own voice making the music and nothing else....if you haven't some experience besides singing along karaoke and in the shower... get a grip here....
AND FOLKS... Please don't forget... they had to do the audition just like all the other contestants did... they had to go through more than one judge, just to get in front of Randy, Paula and Simon....and then to Hollywood...and then to the final 12....and then the final 10 (which is neat because you get to go on the AI tour)
How many others do you think had experience...
There is a local gal here that graduated in 2000 from Folsom High School that I wish would take a shot at it.. Her name is Rachel Purdy... my son Zack says she's got that raspy kind of rock voice and can hit the high notes... and has perfect pitch... so much so that he can tune his guitar to a note she sings...
She was in the Folsom Jazz Choir... by the way... now wouldn't that be a feather in the cap of the local music scene...
