Wow Robert, got a little bit of hatred built up for Kerri or what??

Do you blame Kerri for everything that goes wrong?

Dave, my friend I'll have to politely suggest quit being so gullible!

FYI, as soon as Kerri came on here posting about this, I bet somebody a dollar that she was on the loosing end of a 4 to 1 vote. ( PAY UP AGAIN!)

If You a serving on the City council, its NOT your role to be contacting any family and suggesting the city may be naming something after them, WITHOUT your collegaues endorsement. Council members should REQUEST staff to do this via the City Manager. This process is defined by our charter!

Kerri has EVERY right to support her belief in what the Bridge should be named as well as you do! When politicians play games with the process they ALL need to be called on it!

FYI (2) Andy Morin showed his class by probably agreeing to support Kerri's idea by making the motion so there would be a first and second so there could be discussion about her idea. Without him doing this there could NOT be a discussion. This was a courtesy to Kerri on his part.

Exactly what I said earlier, even though you criticized what I said and removed my unoffensive post.

I think it's the perfect name.

Kudos to the city council !!!

wasn't me, but it was offensive - that's why it got deleted (in case you haven't figured that out by now)

That's very good to hear that you think its the perfect name, I'm glad at least one person thinks Folsom Lake Crossing, that doesn't cross Folsom Lake is a good name - that makes it all worthwhile... biggrin.gif

The more I think about it, the stupider the name Folsom Lake Crossing becomes. The crossing doesn't cross the lake for which it is named and said to cross. To name it Lake Michigan Crossing would have made just as much sense.

I guess I'm in a tiny minority who thinks this was a good decision. Cash meant something to the Prison, not to the City of Folsom. I do think that American River Crossing would have made more sense but I'm not sorry about leaving Cash out of it. smile.gif

Since the name Johnny Cash was chosen as one of the four finalists for the name of the bridge, then one of our city council darn well should be contacting the family. It only makes sense.

If the council wasn't willing to discuss any other name at all that didn't have the word "Folsom" in it, what a slap in the face to the people that took their time out to propose names or go to a council meeting and speak before the council.

I know you and Kerri have some sort of troubled history, Robert, but the truth of the matter is Kerri is the only councilmember that is responsive to emails. Eric King runs a close second in my experience. If her agenda is listening to residents and finding answers for them, I don't think that is such a bad thing. I really wish you two could patch things up.

That's my biggest problem! Folsom Lake Skyway, Lake Vista Bridge, Folsom Lake Is Over There Span.. all would be appropriate. X Crossing MUST cross X.

Yes, but I'm also in the boat with the vast majority of Folsom residents who couldn't care less about the name of that bridge.... cool.gif
I have opinions, you have opinions. We'll just call it even...is that OK ??

Why do you say a City Council member makes sense? If the Johnny Cash name had be determined, contracts would need to be drawn up, their original approval or acknowledgment should be documented clearly. That relationship should be handled by City Staff, at direction of the City Manager. Council members shouldn't be managing those relationships. I understand if Kerri wanted to 'run it by them', but from an authorization and apology perspective, that should be City Business.

Uh Robert, I recall seeing a lot of support for that bridge name long before Kerri came along and posted her support for it here, and until she did that I had no idea she supported it too.

Why do you instantly think because she is in support of it that its a losing proposition? Sorry dude but it sounds like you have a serious vendetta against her.

I also think its common sense to know you should have to contact the family before even considering putting the Cash name up for a vote - and how are you so sure that Kerri did this all on her own? It seems you are putting words in her mouth - your hatred of her is really showing

and yeah you're right - a city council member going above and beyond doing some actual work IS out of character -and the fact she was listening to what the people wanted was waaaay out of character for most council members too - I do see your point there. Screw the people, do what you want. - Got it.

yes Andy is a class act, but despite him doing that, shouldn't all 4 names have been discussed in depth and the citizens preference been considered before making that hasty decision? Were you there at the meeting along with John?

Bottomline, it sounds like the boyz had already long planned to give it the name they did.... the contest and choices were just a farce and we all got played

ya know for me, I'm not so tweaked that JC wasn't chosen for the name, I'm tweaked because as you have noted - the name chosen is completely stupid and makes no sense whatsoever

Things I come away from this experience/post with:
5.) Folks in Folsom have some very odd naming issues;
a.) Folsom Lake is behind a dam (i.e. a constantly moving lake)
b.) LAKE Natomas is really the washout from the dam (typically I would call this a river? Doesn't it have a current to it?)

the washout from Folsom Lake is the American River, go upstream from Rainbow bridge and you will eventually find rapids and stuff.
go down to Hazel and cross the American river, look east, and you will see the Nimbus Dam that holds back the waters known as Lake Natoma (why the dam & resulting lake have different names is beyond my scope of knowledge in this matter).

there also are at least 3 creeks that feed lake Natomas other than the American river outflow from Folsom Dam.
I would rather be Backpacking
