Don't you feel dirty having to answer all those questions when buying a firearm...! Funny how we have to go through this every time....! I think we should have instant background checks and then walk out the door with our purchase..... Well anyway, enjoy your new weapon. Does it have a thumb safety? I think I am going to Wild Sports tomorrow and pick up the S&W MP 45 with the thumb safety. I have an HK USP in .40 and it's a great weapon. Not a big fan of Glocks due to the grip and the lack of a safety other than the trigger safety. I have heard some stories of "drop fires" on them too. Not a big fan of Taures, sorry guys. I also have an SA 1911 A1 which is very nice and looks just like the old US 45. Go out the the Sac. Valley Shooting center. It's the best...! I've been a member there now for 5 years. Does anybody here like the Springfield XD...? They look great and are super dependable. They just came out with the XD .45 with a thumb safety. I can't buy one here in CA because it is not on the list.......! Go figure, I can buy the one with the grip and trigger safety but not the same gun with the added thumb safety....! This is what happens when liberals who know knothing about guns make laws for the rest of us who do....! Chris
I don't really mind filling out the DROS paperwork. It's pretty easy and quick. But I would like to see some data on how useful the process is in preventing purchases by those that should not be able. I wonder how many times a person who shouldn't be able to purchase a weapon have actually been caught and denied? And how many of those people who still desire a weapon were able to purchase through other (illegal) means? Basically, is the process effective? And I agree, I don't understand the 10 day waiting period, especially if you're already a registered gun owner. And what's with the 1 gun/month limitation. Not that I can afford to purchase more than 1 at a time, but if something's on sale or hard to find.....
Having had S&W (w/ safety) and Sigs (w/out safety), I now much prefer pistols w/out the safety. The only controls I want are a decocker and slide release. I don't want to mess with a safety if the SHTF. Chamber a round and go. The DA pull of my Sigs are safety enough. The Glock trigger safety is pretty seamless so I don't mind that. If I get an HK, I'd make it a Variant 3 action (I understand you can only purchase V1 in CA but are allowed to convert to V3 afterwards). Which goes to your point -- CA approved list is stupid. Why can't a purchase a V3 of an approved gun; why only V1? It's not like the pistol is inherently less safe. And there are other pistols (ie - Sigs) that don't have a saftey control and are approved.
Never tried but I've heard XD45's were pretty respectable. S&W have a great history but I didn't like the one I had and won't go back given other brands available.
