I was wondering the same thing, not only about the cause but how the children were doing. This is all The Folsom Telegraph had to offer today.
Was accident alcohol related?
Police waiting for results
By Brad Smith Telegraph Correspondent
Law enforcement officials are still waiting for toxicology results from a Jan. 27 accident that sent a mom and her child to the hospital.
Officer Jason Browning, spokesman for the Folsom Police Department, said the results are pending.
Investigators believe that alcohol was a factor but need confirmation from the tox screens before charges can be filed.
Until charges are filed, the suspect’s name cannot be released.
As for the medical condition of the suspect, an adult female, and one of her children, Browning said the hospital would not release that information to him.

Cops seek to arrest mom in Bidwell Street crash
By Penne Usher, Telegraph Correspondent
An arrest warrant has been issued for a woman who drove her Mercedes into the path of oncoming traffic, injuring herself and her child.
After nearly four months, officials released toxicology screen results and identity of the driver.
According to Officer Jason Browning of the Folsom Police Department, Susan Moskalets had a blood alcohol level of .07, under the legal limit for the state of .08.
She also tested positive for the strong pain killer Morphine and Naproxen, an anti-inflammatory drug often used for pain and inflammation reduction.
Browning said the case has been forwarded to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s office to determine whether charges will be filed against Moskalets.
“An active warrant has been issued for her arrest,” said Officer Shelly Orio, spokeswoman for the Sacramento County District Attorney’s office Thursday. “The warrant (charges) DUI of alcohol and/or drugs with injury and endangering the health or life of a child.”
The charges are felonies.
On Jan. 27, officers responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of East Bidwell Street and Bluestone Circle.
A 1983 Mercedes station wagon, with Moskalets behind the wheel and three of her children ages 6 to 8 in the vehicle, reportedly crossed into the path of an oncoming Dodge Durango. The sole occupant of the Durango was an unidentified female driver.
Witnesses stated the Mercedes had been southbound on East Bidwell, moving with no headlights, when it entered a left turn lane. The driver went into the intersection, reportedly disregarding the red light and heading into oncoming traffic.
Having the green light, the Durango was northbound when it entered the intersection, hitting the Mercedes broadside.

Thanks for the update. I wonder why she is on Morphine? Thats odd, unless she is a cancer patient or has some debilitating disease. The MD's just do not give Morphine to anyone. Interesting drug combo. I guess we will here more when they find her.

Morphine is often given as a last resort pain killer for chronic pain... I have an elderly friend that gets it for his back pain.
But mixed with that much alcohol ( even though she was barely under the legal limit) makes for a serious impairment.
Another great day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

I don't think it would affect anyone's driving.
Morphine on the other hand... is that even possible to take by mouth? I thought that was usually intravenous. Morphine is so addictive that I thought doctors usually only prescribe it if the person is terminal anyway -- i.e., it doesn't matter if they become addicted.

Naproxen is the drug in Aleve. There are also stronger versions via RX. I use it for back pain and my arthritis. The standard level of Aleve is normally 1 pill every 12 hours, but doctors often prescribe it for 2 each 12 hours for Arthritis. It has less effect on the liver than Ibuprofen and Tylenol and better on the stomach than aspirin.
Morphine comes in a pill at various strengths as well , all RX. It is somewhat addictive at higher doses.

I worked in Pharmacy for many years. Yes, Morphine comes in not only IV form, but tablets and liquid as well. See that was my question, as in Pharmacy, we only gave out Morphine for the terminally ill and not even for chronic pain, so I am confused, who is prescribing this for chronic pain? Maybe MJ's MD.........

My mother-iin-law's had morphine in pills for I think 4 years for her back. She finally had surgery, and she's down to 1/2 of what she used to take, and I think she'll be off it completely eventually. Other pain meds just didn't work on her, and the morphine I think just made her too loopy to notice how much pain she was in.
I understand it was a bit of an ordeal to get it though. She had to constantly take weird drug screenings to make sure she was on the morphine (not selling it) and that she wasn't augmenting it with things like marijuana.
