Here's an example for ya...I really liked On Loc Sams ( I have no idea how to spell it) in Stockton. You would enter into a gated parking lot with security. Across the way you would have people hanging out on their porches and others selling drugs on corners. Does that sound seedy enough?

Absolutely! But where would you find that seediness in Folsom?

Exactly! You won't and so that equals no quality cheap Chinese places. I'm sure when Fat's comes here that'll be good but pricey.

Hey, quick question, anyone know about the Chinese Seafood Buffet right next to Del Taco (across the stress from Raleys)? Has it re-opened or is it out of business?

One thing is for sure, its not the best sushi in the world (far from it) but for 7 dollars you cant go wrong

Dunno what's happened to it, but they've got some decent Chinese Buffet food for $7-8. Infinitely better than Luau Garden in Rancho, but not as good as Umeko on Folsom Blvd west of Watt.

I know this is off topic kind of but talking about Chinese restaraunts spurred my memory of a few years back when I was eight months pregnant.

I was in Sunrise Mall and starving! I found myself standing in front of that Chinese fast food joint - I can't remember the name - China Express maybe - I ignorned the voice in side of me telling me I should wait til I got home to eat but I started scanning the buffet items for something tasty. I asked one of the hapless looking servers "What's good here?" He shrugs and says "Choose your poison". I said "That's the wrong thing to say to a pregnant lady!" I ordered some Chicken w/vegetables over rice. After several bites which were not too palatable I decided to chuck the remainder of my plate in the garbage can. I walked down a long dark hallway to the bathroom and passed the kitchen on the way. What I saw when I glanced in there made me want to run out of there and fast - let's just say the kitchen looked absolutely filthy. Twenty minutes later the cramping and vomiting began! For 24 hours I thought I would die! The doctor said it was a classic case of food posioning. Next day I called the restaurant and told them - and about the "choose your poison" line.

My story is not nearly as bad as the recent Wendy's Chili Finger story but I'll surely never forget it and I'll never eat at that place again - readers beware!

For lunch we have been to Seasons on Sutter enough to maybe be considered semi regulars - but I think I have about had it - the service is getting slower and slower - and when we went in on Friday we were a party of 2 and the table right in front of the door was free as well as the large table and a table for 3 - they would not let us have the more comfortable table for 3 and told us to sit at the counter...and then the wait goes on to be helped....the place Pactugua or whatever is so much better for lunch - even the sutter grill.....
just venting

Finally got a chance to try Pachanga this weekend. Very nice atmosphere, extremely friendly and competent staff. The food was above average but some nice looking items on the menu. I had the seared ahi, which had a very nice sauce on it but was a little too cold in the middle. The place was pretty noisy though due to the tiled floor and the high cielings. The hostess (I think it was co-owner Erin) mentioned that they will be adding some sound baffles soon, so that's good. I think it's a great addition to the City!

Tried Pita Pita, Rubio's and zPizza (or something like that) over the last week or so.

Pita Pita is ok for Folsom....

Rubio's was ok....

Pass on zPizza... and go to Mama Nardi's instead...

Anyone got some insight at the new Japanese Resturaunt across from Raleys where the old Seafood Buffet was?

View Post

Not much insight, but I noticed a coupon in this week's Pennysaver:
Grand Opening
Sakura Japanese Buffet
All You Can Eat! Lunch $8.75, Dinner $12.95.

Have to try them out one of these days. (The coupon, by the way, is for 1/2 off a second meal.)

I looked inside Sakura and wasn't impressed. It looked like a Chinese/Jap buffet. They did have 2 sushi chefs preparing sushi so I thought that was a nice touch. I personally would rather spend $12.95 and go somewhere else. I didn't try it so who knows but wouldn't want to be the first.

Also....It looked like they had very few selections. I saw a huge thing of chow mein and some other Chinese items. It did look like they had some type of tempura. A dessert bar was off to the side and I didn't check that out. The sushi looked like various rolls but nothing fancy.

Jade King on Oak changed owners and has gone downhill. That's when we moved to Hop Sing's. I agree it is very good and surprisngly reasonable. Though sometimes they are understaffed, so be prepared to enjoy an extra beer/wine.

smile.gif Hop Sing's on Sutter is very good and reasonable, unless uou consider Old Folsom a seedy part of town.

Another good one----I don't remember the name----is in the Vic's shopping center on American River at Oak Avenue.  Jade Palace or something like that.

I haven't been there in some time but at first it seemed your choices were prepared AFTER you ordered so was very fresh and crisp.  I do not know how it is now. smile.gif

Finally tried the lunch buffet at India house today. I must say it was pretty good. Compared to the other Indian places in Folsom....i would say this one's buffet is the best. So go try it out....:-)
