The reason why I absolutely hated the Kabob House was the Gyros had a bland taste. They were thew worst Gyros I ever had until I had the Gyros from across the Intel which was even worst.

THE best Gyros in sacramento (By Far) is the Greek Village Inn on Howe and fair Oaks. A bit pricey, but well worth it.

Palango...I love Greek Village Inn...my office is around the corner and go there sometimes..yummmm...also have you tried Malouf': A Taste of Lebanon on Fulton and Arden?...BEST Middle Eastern food I've ever tasted...the place is a hole in the wall but it is packed everyday at lunch...

To those of you who suggested Pizza Classico in downtown, across from Chicago Fire, thanks!

I went there after reading a lot of good reviews and I thought it was excellent. It was a bit overpriced, but it was flat out great. Good service as well. I think I found a new pizza place.

Thanks!

I have driven past Maloufs many times, but have not tried it yet. Now with your kind recommendation, I shall give it a try. Thanks.

This is a LONG thread with a lotta good stuff. My two cents:

Pizza: tie between Classico (too expensive, tho), Roma's (don't go when Tony, the owner is gone 'cuz the kids take over and don't do nearly the same job) and Chicago Fire (too busy) for best pizza. ZPizza is not very impressive (cardboard with sauce and skimpy toppings) - Round Table is better.

Chinese: Rice Express is the best by far (even great for take-out), followed by the place on Sutter Street.

Mexican: Q'Bole' (we watched a waiter wipe off a table, then stick the same hand into the container of chips to fill up our bowl) and Sol Azteca (I sat down in a booth and could smell urine - got moved to a different booth that smelled even worse) are the worst. Hacienda is a close third (fourth if you include the place across from the post office). For good Mexican, we go to El Novillero on Franklin Blvd. between 12th Ave and Fruitridge in So. Sac. We've been going there for years since it was just a hole-in-the-wall and watched two different expansions.

BBQ: you gotta leave Folsom. Again to South Sac, go to JR's Texas BBQ. It's on Otto Circle, across 47th Avenue from Campbell's Soup. Great taste, great portions. However, if you're into ambiance, forget it. It's just a big room with picnic tables.

Burgers: I think Island's is ok but but overpriced - don't order the jalapeno burger (my hair was sweating). I didn't care for Red Robin before but I've gone there twice in the past couple of months and had great experiences. Still, nothing beats a trip to Ford's on Sutterville, across from Land Park, in Sacto.

After reading my reviews, I guess I need to move back to South Sac.

I thought Ford's was highly overrated. If you're in Land Park, Willie's is the place to go.

we all have opinions on what's good. how about the "I would never eat there again places?"

I do respect the right to have an opinion but do we really have to bring businesses down? Has it ever occured to us that these are people's livelihood so we need to think twice before writing something so negative? If someone absolutely "hates" a place, then just don't go back but let other people try it out and give their own opinion. A lot of things happen behind the scenes daily that we don't know about and that could contribute to a bad experience. Try to look around - is there a long wait because it seems to be short staffed or are the employees just talking? Are they apologetic or just don't even care? I like to give a place a second chance and if I don't care for it, I don't go back.

hey I like a heads up on a bad place, or a good place. If a place is known for its poor service, I will not go there, period. I was a server during college, and know what should be standard, but few places these days live up to that! If some one says the food is gross, then I will ask why, but if they give me a very reasonable response, well, I might just stay away.

heads up are good if you dont want to waste your money.

with that said, I love food, and even if something wasnt stellar, I wont complain... because I love to eat! There are very few places I have been that I wont go to again, except for Elephant Bar (never had a good meal there, been 3 or 4 times... meh) or the Mortons in Sacramento (horrible service, and mediocre porterhouses... been there twice, and the only reason I went there again was because I had such fabulous experiences in Seattle)

I quickly scanned some of the posts on this thread and many provide reasons why they were dissatisfied. My Grandma's Kitchen benefitted greatly from forum members' comments. While I'm sure many of the comments were hard to hear for the owner, she stepped up and made changes based on the comments. Based on her efforts, many people, myself included, went back again after a few bad experiences, becuase we heard she made changes.

Also, this is a public forum intended to discuss local events, interests, etc. I think as long as no one gets personal, we should be free to discuss whatever we choose.

If you work for a place that was criticized, step up and fix the problems. Let us know that changes were made, and I'm sure many of us would go back.

Obviously, QBOLE doesn't agree with you since they wanted their post removed or else they would sue. I won't be back for that reason alone. You can make your own choices about where to spend money.

Seriously? I won't there now. Haven't ever tried it and won't ever.

I thought this was supposed to be a thread about the worst place to eat...yet we are expounding on the best places...huh?
As for the worst place to eat my vote goes to BJ's...I will never go there again unless I have to.
The food (except for the burgers & ribs) stinks...the wait staff if way overworked and too slow and the prices are high by comparison. I like their beer but the wait is so long that it breaks any anticipation and causes you to dread the rest of the night.
