The Soup Kitchen International is located on West 55th Street between Broadway and Eighth Avenue. You can take the A, B, C, D, 1 or 9 trains to Columbus Circle to get there. And they've got three sizes (small: $7, medium: $10, and large: $12)

And now know see how this relates to muslim prayers in Folsom!

None of those buildings are 7 stories high, sitting atop a hill.

With a 70 ft. minaret, this is going to be a VERY prominent building.  I think it's reasonable for all of us to worry about whether we will like it.

I think it's actually going to be at the bottom of the hill - if I recall correctly it's right next to Sibley.

WOW. Will it fit on that lot? Is the lot perhaps larger that it looks?

It IS at the bottom of the hill- - and I sure like to looks of it - better than a big box like Winco in the area....

Certainly from the pic you posted will one of the nicest looking buildings in Folsom...

I guess it depends what hill we're talking about. I agree that it is at the bottom of the big Prairie City hill that leads up to Intel. The lot itself, however, has a hill built into it. Even the property across Levy (which someone cited as an example of how the lot will be "leveled") sits a good 10-15 feet above street level. Drive by it, you'll see.

Seeing a picture of the building (thanks, John), I don't have any objection to the architecture. I do think, though, that it is an enormous (almost monumental) urban-type building. It reminds me a bit of the Boston Public Library. I can definitely see it in the middle of a block in New York, Chicago, or wherever. Right here in suburban Folsom...I'm not so sure.

Thirty two thousand square feet is not a real big building for that particular lot.

Have to drive by what used to be Miner hill across from safeway and see how the huge hills were leveled to street level-!!! Surely this small lot would be as well.. and it will remain at the bottom of the hill in an Industiral AREA.

If you see the location- it is in a mostly Industrial setting with businesses up the hill on Lembi , across the street- also across Sibley..
So it is not in Suburban Folsom---
But even if it was= the architecture is stunning and would a great addition to ANY neighborhood---

Here's the only way I can see that building sitting at street level on that lot.

Also, go to topozone:
http://www.topozone....591&datum=nad83

There is a 70' elevation change across that corner. Unless you are looking from the side of the hill looking towards the river, I'm not sure how that picture is accurate.

Agreed. Maybe that's why the picture gave me the impression of a flat city block -- rather than the hilly lot the mosque is actually destined for.

Notice also that the school is now described as a "primary school." This sounds like a daily, private elementary school -- as opposed to part-time religious ed classes a la Sunday School or CCD. I wonder what the enrollment is projected to be. --That should draw plenty of traffic from metropolitan Sacramento and will add nicely to the morning and afternoon rush hours along Blue Ravine and Sibley.

Terry, how can you say 32,000 sq. ft. is not a big building? That is 11 of my houses glommed together! Can you identify other buildings in Folsom you think are that size? Are we talking about a Winco, a WalMart, or more like a Safeway? And where is the parking lot going to go? 150 cars is a pretty big parking lot.

Well, it is a mosque, library and school altogether.

Perhaps we'd get approximately the same square footage if we took the new Folsom library, and biggest church and school in Folsom.

It's across the street (Sibley) from affordable housing; i.e. townhomes now. It's not really all that industrial anymore.

uber, pardon me if I have the wrong person, but aren't you the one who is always railing against gay people?

I find it curious that you are the voice of tolerance when it comes to the mosque, yet you have no such welcoming attitude toward gays.

I'm just curious what in your background or philosophy makes you so open to one, but so close-minded to the other.  Is it your religious tradition?  Your parents' views?  Or ...?

I've never "railed" against gay people, just the institute of homesexuality and it's intentions. Suddenly having strong beliefs is being "close-minded?" I'm open to other stances and other positions, but am pretty firm in my own belief.

So let's not take Pluralistic Christianity and compare it to my position on homosexuality.
