You must be a registered voter by the time your signature is turned in.
So, if you want to sign and you are not currently a registered voter, be sure to register right away. When the petitions arrive at the county for signature verification, their records must show you as registered. So don't delay registering to vote.

To camay2327. Please accept my apology if I came across as though I represent "all" the Veterans in the Folsom area. That was never my intent nor do I claim such authority. I do however speak for the majority of the veterans that support the local VFW and their long standing commitment to the Folsom community. I salute you for your service and please understand that on this issue we have very differing positions. But I still respect you as a veteran.
To anyone else that is interested, we just finished our weekly meeting at the veterans hall on the recall and we are all excited about our current accomplishments. I still maintain that our excitement is some what subdued because we have had to resort to politcal tactics that are not familiar to us. We would much prefer to do what comes naturally and work on community improvement issues and help remember our fallen comrades. Unfortunately, the city council has driven us to this position and if it costs the city money, then please don't blame us. The city council could put a stop to the divisiveness within this community with a stroke of their pen. They believe that the majority of the residents are willing to give up portions of their city park in exchange for a city building. We, on the other hand, believe that we represent the majority opinion in this matter and that the library should be somewhere else. As I have said before, we cannot both be right. Consequently, the quickest and simpliest way to resolve this issue and "keep peace in the community" is to put this thing on the ballot for November. The city council can do this without any signatures or they can be encouraged to do it through our efforts. The end results will be the same, but the divisiveness would stop. It is their choice.
In the meantime, we have two months left and we are two thirds of the way there. We encourage you to attend our Friday evening meetings no matter what your position.

grandpa babe, You are not talking for all the decorated veterans in Folsom. I, for one, do not back the recall. 22 years, Navy Retired 1983 ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Camaray - according to the Federal Census there are over 5,000 veterans in the City of Folsom - your vote against the recall is your right - but a minority with your brothers
You might want to talk to your brothers of the Joint Veterans at Post 6604, and also take part in the Vietnam Memorial moving wall coming to Sacramento in April. The Farley name is on that wall along with others that gave you the right to disagree and agree with whom you chose.

waterbaby149: You say there are over 5,000 vets in the city of Folsom. How many of them attend Post 6604? What percentage?
I saw the Vietnam Memorial when it was down in San Jose a few years ago. It is very moving!!!

"No person shall impede, hinder, intimidate, threaten, harass or block the efforts of a person to circulate signatures on a petition for initiative, referendum or recall in the city."
Your recourse is to call the police department if they persist. Why are some people so afraid to find out what residents really think of the library site change?
I was in another location this weekend where I didn't have somebody violating my civil rights and had great success collecting signatures. People like the fire station location. Many people like Farley Field and would like to see it stay.

Mr. Miklos - Mr. Starsky - go to the wall - try your political glory standing after you see those names - and look at the veterans around you, look at their families - and tell us that it is just a rock and we are a bunch of malcontents.

you miss the point - Marshall Farley played ball on that field as a child - his friends, boys who went to war when he did - played ball on that field with Marshall, as well as his dog, they came back, he did not. When these men see that field they see Marshall and have memories of him - that is tears in the eyes!!! The choice to put the field there was based on history and the life of a young man. One of the men that was with Marshall before he went to Vietnam was a sniper in Vietnam, and feels strongly about this field. If you have been in this town forever you might remember the family, Titus.

Please do not be disturbed over the response from annierose and Candy Apple and others who ignore your point concerning Farley Field. The Lions and the Veterans have offered them and their colleagues every conceivable opportunity to build libraries and monuments to our veterans and they continue to miss the point. I fear they are beyond a mind change. Please know that our efforts are paying big dividends in terms of signatures and I fervently believe that the city will have a new library and bigger monuments to our veterans--but it will not be in our City Park as we know it.
I too was able to visit The Moving Wall and the associated activities. My eyes still water with memories.
Hang in there. We will overcome.

The urgent need for a new library in Folsom is obvious – and it will have a significant effect on our children and quality of life in our city. You would think that the veterans would be very supportive of this urgent need in our community, and find a way to compromise to stop delaying the project. While I understand the significance of Farley Field to the veterans, the resulting memorial and entrance to the library that has been proposed, will be a much more impressive and accessible tribute to our veterans and something that the children/residents in our city will be able to learn from. I’ve have seen such memorials at other city libraries, and often would read the information supplied/displayed.
Most importantly, we do not need a 12-month delay to the library project. Come on petition people, be the bigger persons and find a way to support this urgent need in our community…

I am a huge supporter of veterans -- I am out there at the parade every Veterans Day to honor the men and women who have served. No one is trying to minimize the veterans' sacrifice or contribution. But with the new library, we can honor veterans in a truly meaningful way that also contributes to the life and community of Folsom.

If you feel as you do about a proposed delay - then contact your council members - they are the one causing the problem - the Veterans and the Lions are not against the library - but the location - the original location - the firehouse - will be available shortly and work could commence in an even more timely manner. If you want a library so bad - push your cc to be more responsible
the list of complaints against the cc is growing and growing - their latest is their plans for the corporation yard - do u think this has not been in the works for some time and that it will now be sprung on the citizens of Folsom - do you not believe that some developer has not lined the pockets of the cc over this land - what about the ff without a contract for 15 months, what about the over zealous development of the land on the other side of 50 - when is enough enough
don't blame the veterans or the lions - they are standing up for what they believe in - try it on

I could disagree with you more. Let's stick with the library issue. The only delay to the library project would be caused by the petition drive. It seems that it is either your way or no way. I see no indication of community spirit or compromise is this petition effort.
The decision was made by the city council that we as residents voted in. I believe that they made the right decision and considered all the facts. The fire station is not a good choice for many reasons that have been discussed (parking, size, configuration, demolition costs). And the resulting decision to make it a joint senior citizens/cultural center, is great for our city and those organizations.
