Hehe. You know what -- he just might! What will it matter though? Whether you win or not, making the top 10 or so, coupled with whether you have real talent, etc., is enough to launch a successful career (Daughtrey and unfortunately, Clay). Ergo, we'll all forget about Sanjaya a few months from now.

I am pulling for Jordin Sparks now... I don't think that Melinda Doolittle had the votes of the younger group.

'Idol' elimination serves up surprise finale
POSTED: 8:37 a.m. EDT, May 17, 2007

NEW YORK (AP) -- Most observers thought she was a lock to go on to the "American Idol" finale, but Melinda Doolittle was eliminated Wednesday night.

The result was a real surprise, considering Doolittle -- hands down the best singer there -- had the blessing of Simon Cowell. Her departure clears the way for a final showdown between Jordin Sparks and Blake Lewis.

"Congratulations to you two. My commiserations, Melinda, 'cause you are one heck of a singer," said a glum Cowell, who covered his face with his hands upon hearing the news.

The acerbic judge had always made clear his affection for the 29-year-old backup singer-turned-diva from Brentwood, Tennessee, who delivered knockout performances week after week.

Doolittle, who never hit a bad note during her "Idol" run, seemed resigned to her fate. She belted "I'm a Woman" before leaving the stage.

It's tough to predict who'll win next week's finale. Sparks, 17, of Glendale, Arizona, rose from the bottom ranks to gain much momentum in later weeks, and few would deny her broad appeal to viewers of all ages. The bubbly beauty has charisma for miles -- a true American idol, her fans argue. (Blog: Who's going to win?)

But the 25-year-old Lewis, who hails from Bothell, Washington, has tricks up his sleeve. As this year's hippest contender, the stylish beatboxer has wooed fans by taking risks with song arrangements and infusing even stale pop songs with contemporary flair.

He had a big "Idol" moment weeks ago when he mixed up Bon Jovi's "You Give Love a Bad Name" to add fresh beats -- a move that secured him a spot in the final four. Even Cowell loved it.

Wednesday's show also featured performances by the band Maroon 5 and former contestant Elliott Yamin, who came in third last year.
A VETERAN Whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount "up to and including their life". That is HONOR, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it. -Author unknown-

This show now sucks. The best singer was "voted" off. I might need to buy into the conspiracy theory. Won't be watching the finale.

What're you gonna do instead? Sit at home listening to your Taylor Hicks albums?

What... he has an album out?!?!?! I think Kellie Pickler has sold more albums than Taylor. What a terrible choice last year... a complete failure. Yep... "soul patrol" is dead.

I guess I could watch the NBA... ha ha! Not a chance. Maybe I'll clip my toe nails... they are getting a little long... but I can hold off till next Tue and Wed.

I think Taylor Hicks' problem is Clive Davis. He's got too much blues and funk to be mainstream, yet they are trying to move him there.

Anyway, who the hell would have done a good job with, "Do I Make You Proud?" One of THE worst singles in the history of bad pop music.

The new song only fits Jordin's singing style and sounds exactly like the past Idol winner's songs. Why did they bother getting new song writers this year?

And what is with Idol running over time so often? I set my Tivo for 2 minutes extra recording and it still ran out before the show ended.

The new song sucked. Who the heck were those 2 clowns that wrote it? What's that? Nobody knows or cares?

I have no idea why AI made them sing a song written by a couple of Yahoos. If anything it made the performances hard to watch. I do think Jordin sang it way better.

I hope she wins. She is a far superior singer than that other guy.

I think the song was chosen so that Jordin will win. She can do the mass-appeal, vanilla pop song. She has an amazing voice, no doubt. I hope that Blake doesn't win, he'll do much better without an AI contract and having to sing crap like this song.

I thought that those back up singers singing with Blake were horrible and off key most of the time. They made the song even worse than it was.

It played out exactly how I expected and actually wanted it to. Man, that "This is my now" song sucks. Clive Davis was, at one time, an amazing music industry force. But he's really sucking now. It is possible to make good music that makes money, but he just seems to focus on the money part.

I've played in rock/funk even country and western bands in my mispent youth.... and it's always about the money...

If you are good band you can get a good piece of the action of the door and be playing almost every night....

there are several bands like that around this area....

as for AI.. I think there are couple of folks that will make it... after all look at Daughtry... he came in third last year... Kelli Pickler came in like 4th or 5th last year and has an album and a video... she's on tour now I think with Keith Chesney...

Blake could do well in that in between genre... something between the new rock and smooth jazz...

And the rest can all have careers in music if they want to....

If there is one program that I can not miss....besides my right wing wacko Fox News channel... this is it for me.. I got hooked late the year before last when Carrie Underwood won...

So when the Football playoffs are about over next Jan... American Idol starts...
