American River Crossing would make a helluva lot more sense and that would have been a good name

Didn't I say the same thing back in Post# 157 of this topic.

Since the name Johnny Cash was chosen as one of the four finalists for the name of the bridge, then one of our city council darn well should be contacting the family. It only makes sense.

If the council wasn't willing to discuss any other name at all that didn't have the word "Folsom" in it, what a slap in the face to the people that took their time out to propose names or go to a council meeting and speak before the council.

I know you and Kerri have some sort of troubled history, Robert, but the truth of the matter is Kerri is the only councilmember that is responsive to emails. Eric King runs a close second in my experience. If her agenda is listening to residents and finding answers for them, I don't think that is such a bad thing. I really wish you two could patch things up.

well said!

39 votes for JC, 11 votes for Folsom Lake, and from informal survey's I did with friends, neighbors and co-workers, the consensus was the same... I tend to believe that many people saying they're for it is not a random fluke..

so why did those guys pick that lame name for the bridge in obvious opposition to what the majority of Folsom would have preferred to name it? Just doesn't make sense..

but whatever... its just a name, it's not all that important in the grand scheme of things - it just could have been a great opportunity to promote the city....ah well

the best part is we got a new bridge in/out of town to help traffic flow better and that is great

---

It was the majority on myfolsom.com It does not mean that the majority of the voting people in Folsom would have voted for it. It would depend on how much advertising came out on it by the chamber of commerce and others.

It sure should not be called "crossing" as lake crossing as it does not cross the lake. Maybe bridge... Folsom Lake Bridge... City council, make a correction to your error....

NOTE: CITY COUNCIL ????? Come on I know that you all read this and not just Kerri...

Andy, you want to speak up???? You do sometimes....

Why do you say a City Council member makes sense? If the Johnny Cash name had be determined, contracts would need to be drawn up, their original approval or acknowledgment should be documented clearly. That relationship should be handled by City Staff, at direction of the City Manager. Council members shouldn't be managing those relationships. I understand if Kerri wanted to 'run it by them', but from an authorization and apology perspective, that should be City Business.

you're over thinking the situation dude, it never got that far....

and you guys don't know that Kerri personally contacted the family.... until she says she did that all on her own I call BS on this... you and Robert are putting words in her mouth - keep in mind, she posted that note at 1:30 in the morning after a long day...

and honestly, don't you think it would be better for a city council member to contact the Cash family then an administrative assistant?

Good grief. You caught me. You're right. Most of the time the city council doesn't make sense. (Sorry, Kerri).

I'm just glad the family was contacted since the Johnny Cash name was in the running even if it was only truly in consideration by a lone council member. If that name were picked, I would expect city staff to be involved in the drawing up of contracts and such. If Kerri wants to make her own personal apology to the family, I don't see a problem with that.

I had more fun at my car club meeting. Enjoyed the "Bang Bang Chicken & Shrimp" from The Cheesecake Factory at Arden Fair Mall.

And as you pointed out, like I knew would be the case, the results of the council meeting had absolutely nothing to do with what the attendees desired, and was all about the me,me,me of the "only my opinion counts Steve Miklos" driven council.

you don't know that for sure, but it seems like a lot more people were interested in the JC name then anything else.... and not just here on myfolsom...

Yes, Folsom Lake BRIDGE would indeed make a lot more sense - at least its the bridge near Folsom lake....not a crossing d'oh (it just sounds so stupid)

Other city council members are on here? I would have never known.....

Imagine a city council member approached the Cash family, they agreed. Then an election comes up, that council member is gone. Nobody on city staff knows who to contact, knows anything of the approval. In the meantime, the city voted to go ahead with the name with no documentation.

It's one thing to casually 'run it by' them, another entirely to say they authorized it, planned to attend the unveiling, and we should now apologize for failing to meet our side of the deal.

I applaud Kerri for pushing for what many people wanted. I would personally be fine with JC Bridge, especially over X Crossing that does not cross X. But to say we, the city, need to apologize for her casual conversations (because it didn't go that far, right?) is odd.

Maybe we'll travel through Ellis Island Intersection and along Mt. Fuji Parkway to get on the bridge.

again, over thinking the situation dude - she did not tell them that this name was agreed upon when they were contacted

you guys are too stuck on that apology thing..... I'm sure the family is disappointed Johnny's name won't be immortalized in this bridge - so having the common courtesy to let them know it didn't happen makes complete sense - you guys think that's a bad thing, I disagree
