Yesterday I brought my kids and a few friends to Dickey's for an early-ish dinner. Having had good experiences before, I gave glowing reviews and set expectations high. None of my guests thought it was better than OK and both of my kids said it wasn't as good as before - and I agreed. Worse part is today both my BF and I have been feeling "off" and our tummies aren't sitting well, though my kids feel fine. We figured out that only he and I had the brisket and wonder if that's the cause?

Separately, the soft serve machine wasn't working well (very slow) and gone was the big jar of pickles.

Unless I begin to feel horrible, I'll likely give them another try because of past great experiences but yesterday's visit was disappointing.

That's too bad. I hope it was just an off day and I hope you and BF are feeling better soon.

I can certainly explain two of those issues! The pickle jar is behind the register - we decided after seeing various members of the public with their hands in the jar that we ought to restrict access - so please ask the cashier and we will be happy to provide them to you.
When I visited the store last night I noticed that the ice cream machine had been set up incorrectly so that the lever could not be pushed all the way up. I am covering this issue in training for all front of house staff to try and avoid it in the future. Unfortunately though no matter how much you train, people will do it right for so many times and then slip back.
We had a staff member call in sick last night and trying to find a replacement at short notice on a Sunday was nigh on impossible.
I would like to talk to you about your particular experience so that I may get to the bottom of it and ensure there is not a repeat of it. Would it be ok if I message you and arrange to talk on the phone?

Many thanks!

Ray

Ray, good customer service! First off, I'm glad that the pickle jar is behind the counter! Secondly, yes, PM me and we can arrange a phone conversation. I look forward to it and thanks for the timely response.

Wait...I didn't see no pickle jar!!!

Hey, I want a pickle!

Ray, I have gone to your place twice. Once with one kid and the second time with both kids. I love the staff. They are friendly and smile and great at making recommendations.

I took home the left over BBQ sauce and poured it over homemade mashed potatoes and sausage for the kids the following evening. Sauce was still just as good. Do you sell the sauce separately?

Anyway keep it up. You guys are a great treat for a family supper.

I went for the second time recently and I would like to say although the food was ok,I dont know that I will return. My ribs were cold, the workers were working hard to keep up but people were leaving the line (lost revenue)because of the wait and they were not happy. I might suggest a person in line with samples or something to occupy them so they dont think of the wait. The stress of getting a table on top of that is not worth it. The ice cream (when it works) still looks like frozen butter, meat being weighed just doesnt sit right in a bbq environment -error on the high side. Also, my bbq pet peeve is when the rib bark comes off or shreds when it is being cut and prepared with a dull knife-the rib meat should be intact otherwise it is basically of pulled pork consistency. Unfortunatly with my own eyes I see they are losing money because of the current system.
On top of all that I was overcharged.
I sincerely wish success for Dickeys in Folsom, but things gotta change before I come back.

My husband, 10 year old son and I went last night about 7:00. The line wasn't too long but it took a very long time to place the order because there are three different sections- meat, sides and payment. The staff was working hard so I am not sure what wasn't working. They were out of ribs, and couple of sides and ice cream. My husband got pickles but I didn't and we didn't get any rolls while folks at other tables did. The polish sausage was o.k., my son's chicken fingers were the dinosaur shape that you get at Costco but the brisket was pretty good. Not sure we will be back.

Any updates on Dickeys? I would like to hear they worked the kinks or complaints out before I return. I know several other people are waitig as well. I want it to work-but maybe its working just as it is.

I had out of town visitors that wanted to go-but I talked them out of it until I can trust there wont be time or ice cream (for the kids) issues.

No update from me. After my last poor experience there Ray promptly sent me a message indicating his concern and asked for my number so he could call me to discuss. Great customer service. Unfortunately, he never followed up after the initial concern.

I was there Sunday. I don't know if the Owner has Addressed your Issues, but the food is good and inexpensive and they seem to be selling a lot of it.

Can't beat kids eat free on Sundays. WHole family ate for $23.

You either have to get there early or be patient when the line gets long. They could use a little more help at the counter on nights they know they are going to be busy though.

And most importantly the BBQ is GOOD. Not the best I have ever had but definately better than anything we have ever had here in Folsom in a long while.

I agree except when they charge you for the kids meal when all kids are free on Sundays. How can that mistake be made....
Its a good deal if there is minimum wait. The bbq is okay-not great, but certainly satisfactory (in my humble bbq opinion).

BBQ is NOT fast food. If you want fast food go to Mickey D's

The biggest problem with people (especially here in California) is they are always in such a damn hurry to get in, stuff their face, and get out.

Make an experience out of it, talk to your kids, and take in some of that good ol smoke. Thats the only advice I can give you...

I agree BBQ is not fast food, however the hours it takes to prepare is already spent. Every "wait in line" cafeteria style (not sit down restaraunt take order establishment)does not take this long. To make an experience of it would require a real sit down restaurant talking over a basket of bread or biscuits like at Lucilles. I agree though, I enjoy the build up to getting served-but this isn't the place for that. Standing up in line telling three people my order and stressing on getting a table is not a good experience. I'm goin to Mickey D's for a Mc Rib....
