1. How about a flea market in old Folsom on the weekends? They need some foot traffic down there. Amazing how nice it is down there, and nothing of interest to draw people there, except a bunch of junk shops!!!

2. How about bus service to the airport? This applies to lots of other areas around Sacramento as well!!! I grew up near Chicago, and if you want to get to and from O'Hare, there are buses to all the major cities within a hundred miles of O'Hare... and they have schedules at least every hour... and it costs about $15, one way. Anyone ever think about how much of the traffic on the freeways around Sacramento is going to and from the airport? If you just notice how many cars on Hwy 5 are getting off at the airport, it should be a BIG clue. Oh, I forgot... the politicians are being paid by the cab companies and the Blue Van to only allow certain companies to service the airport. I virtually stopped traveling since I moved to Folsom. During peak times during weekdays, it's virtually impossible to even get to or from the airport!!!

3. We need a Frye's Electronics on this side of town.

4. We need a Honda/Acura dealership in the Folsom AutoMall.

5. I have at least 4 coffee shops within 10 minutes of my house... and not ONE GOOD ONE!!! Either they don't have good seating inside or outside, or they don't have good coffee or good pastries. Amazing how difficult it is to figure out that formula. Maybe a good Barnes & Noble would do it.

6. How about free parking at some of the major recreational areas at certain periods of the week? There are lot of us retirees living here that need some exercise and could use them during the week... but we're not stupid... and we're cheap!!! You'd think $5,000 property taxes would buy you something. Everything around Folsom Lake and Lake Natomas should be free during the week. So, no one uses them. It's a lot more fun to go there if there are people there! The major cost of operation is someone taking the tolls and cleanup. I bet u could get a bunch of us to volunteer to do both if we could use the facilities free once in awhile.

7. As for athletic/health clubs... well we have several, and several new ones are coming... but so far, the only one I'd join is Broadstone, and it's borderline... and I've never seen a health club that was SOOOOOOOOOOO expensive !!! I've belonged to some of the best clubs when I lived in Sacramento, and they were LOTS less expensive. Ya really gotta love being in Folsom to pay what it costs to live here. I bet the Terminator pays less for his club!!!

8. I wish there was a good Furniture store in Folsom... well actually I wish there was a good one in Sacramento period!!! As long as u want tuscan kitsch, there's plenty to pick from. If you want classic, traditional, well built, or fine contemporary... good luck, u can just drive to SF or LA... if u can find a freeway that isn't clogged.

9. How about someone building some high end condos? As I get older, high density is fine, since I don't have to advertise my success by how many square feet I live in, or how many acres I own, and the less I have to maintain and furnish, the better. But it seems like whenever someone builds nice condos, they forget people need 3 car garages (everyone has at least 2 cars, and needs the other space for storage), and they charge as much for them as a real house. Or the other end of the spectrum is stuff so cheap that u have to coexist with screaming rugrats and loud music. So we all pay half a million dollars for mediocre houses on postage stamps.

10. Highways... well a bunch of idiots designed the streets in Folsom, so it's too late to fix that. You have to drive in a triangle to get between any 2 spots. The major streets and freeways in this area are virtually the worst I've ever seen, at least if you need to get somewhere. At a minimum, there needs to be a freeway between Folsom and Elk Grove... and a freeway between Folsom and Auburn. If someone did it now, there is actually space to do it. But let's wait 10 years to do it after the developers have already built a hundred subdivisions, and the right of way will be so expensive, and the number of complaints will be so insurmountable, it will NEVER happen!

So... since we can't fix any of this... let's just sit home, surf the internet and procreate.

Whataburger: FRESH FRESH FRESH lettuce, tomatos, pickles and onions on a fried burger with mustard. Long, hot, crispy fries that make McDonald's fries look like mashed potatoes. Chocolate shakes that inspire mouth orgasms. Anyone who's dined at a Whataburger in Texas, New Mexico or Arizona already knows what I'm talking about. Franchise opportunities here: http://www.whataburg...m/franchise.cfm . My stomach and my wallet will thank you later.

Fizoli's: Fast-food Italian. Nothing special, but where else can you get passable chicken parmegan and garlic-buttered breadsticks in less than 5 minutes? If someone's looking for a business opportunity, see great franchise opportunities here: http://www.fazolis.com/ .

I think a highway to Elk Grove is in the works. I recall readin something in the Bee some time ago. A highway to Auburn or at least Roseville is needed as well. I agree, Folsom-Auburn is the best place for it. It will never happen - too many bureacrats will bicker about it and it will eventually be too expensive. Hazel Blvd was originally designed for a 50-80 connector and that's just what happened.

On an unrelated note, I'd love to see someone franchise a Kenny Rogers' Roasters here. Yum!

John, yes I think that they are considering Grant Line Road - White Rock road as a cut across from 99 to 50. I think that would be great for everyone.

They are working on expanding Folsom-Auburn and Auburn-Folsom roads to 4 lanes. A lot of it is done but still a lot to do.

I talked to the city and the chamber of commerce about trying to get a Fry's Electronics out here but I don't think it is going to happen. I wish it would as I love Frys. My daughter and I went over to Fry's yesterday. Love the store...

Come on Randy Fry.

Especially the tens of thousands of new homeowners flocking to the new developments that will be sproutiing on either side of it.

Do still wishing for In-n-Out Burger... and a municipal rose garden.

Everything I read says that IF the Grant Line Road freeway is built, it will be 20 years before we can use it. I'll be dead by then.

As for Folsom-Auburn Road... I avoid it like the plague... especially the 4 lane part. It's just another Madison Avenue. Finishing it all the way to Auburn will just cause it to be even MORE clogged.

They need to build a freeway along Salmon Falls Road or Hwy 49 between 50 and 80 while there's still room. If they got their thinking caps on, it could be a continuation of the Grant Line Road freeway.

regarding the bolded above, PLEASE, NO.

the other day i took Sophia Pkwy again (between Broadstone and Green Valley Rd), and I couldn't help but to look up at the hills, stare at all those trees and wide-open spaces. I couldn't help but notice all of the militant construction going on in that general area. And I couldn't help but think to myself "In 10 years, all the trees and open space and hillsides will be mostly gone and developed, thereby taking away anything and everything that made Folsom 'unique' and appealing in the first place." Once these areas are filled-in, and it's only a matter of time, there will be almost no differentiating between Folsom and anyplace else in the Sacto region, and that's just sad......

the connector between Folsom and Elk Grove makes perfect sense to me. Elk Grove is one of the fastest growing communities in CA. Elk Grove has been producing a lot of job opportunities, but currently it's a pain to get from Point A to Point B. The road they are planning will solve this problem....eventually. But do we REALLY need another highway between 50 and 80? In my opinion, no.....

I think horse and buggies are way cool too... and I'm sure we don't need any more dams and powerplants... but in case you haven't noticed, people keep having babies... and it's REAL unpopular to try and stop that trend :-)

People keep buying gas guzzlers... and trying to grow grass in the desert too (NOT ME). I'm just being realistic and trying to plan ahead for your children (NOT MINE).

So unless u can figure out how to stop the population explosion... be part of the solution.

on a related note, what would you think about 2 bridges spanning over Folsom Lake? There's lots of room in them thar hills, and we could have a realistic 50-80 connection with little to impede current developments.
