People keep buying gas guzzlers... and trying to grow grass in the desert too (NOT ME). I'm just being realistic and trying to plan ahead for your children (NOT MINE).
So unless u can figure out how to stop the population explosion... be part of the solution.
Not all of us drive big arse gas guzzling suv's.. and there's a still a handful of us folks who do actually still enjoy the open views and beautiful scenery of the countryside along Salmon Falls Road and Hwy 49. If you want highways everywhere - go live in L.A. - but please don't pave over our paradise here just so you can drive your Humvee from one shopping mall to another.

Sorry, I'm an old dude, and was a gubment bureaucrat for 20+ years, and retired because I couldn't sit by and be politically correct for stupid idiots any more. I really don't have time for sweet talking people into logic. There aren't many years left in my life to make a difference.
Interesting... after I sent that post I was thinking about u using Sophia Parkway (it's Empire Ranch Road BTW)... since just that morning I had gone for a bike ride down Empire Ranch Road myself, and been irritated by how many of u short cut takers were already using it... LOL
Funny how many different perspectives there are to any subject. The people having homes built at the base of that hill are thrilled to pay another $50K lot premium so they can look at the hill instead of another row of houses, or be next to Empire Ranch Road where you're now going to drive.
If there's one thing I understand... it's that I can't stop progress... and I'd rather be part of the planning for progress than arguing why it can't happen.

Funny u should say Humvee... I have a bumpersticker on my truck that has a picture of Arnold and it says "What I really need is another Hummer". I downsized from a big truck to a small truck years back, and it really irritates me to see people driving macho gas guzzlers with one person in them.
If you think u can stop procreation and progress, then I'm glad that works for u. I'll wave to u next time we're on Hwy 50 stuck in traffic at Prairie City.
I lived in Carmichael for almost 20 years before here, and watched everyone complain about proposals for freeways and bridges across the river (while I rode the bus and light rail, and rode my bicycle to work).
I'm retired and I only put 4000 miles on my vehicle a year, because I planned where I would live versus where I needed to shop. I don't have to put up with the traffic often... and I was just trying to fix YOUR problem :-)

Sounds like you have your thinking cap on John! I'm not sure how practical that would be though. And I'm not sure why u suggested "2" bridges as opposed to one bridge.
FYI, I spent most of my career working for the Corps of Engineers and Bureau of Reclamation, and I won't bore u with how much I know about Folsom Dam, closing the dam road, Auburn Dam, Nimbus Dam, the unstable aspects of Mormon Island Dam, the American River, etc. I was there when the gate broke, and signed all the contracts to rebuild the dam... for starters.
Since they keep talking about raising Folsom Dam, I think building bridges across Folsom Lake would only be a short term solution... they'd probably be under water soon.

I'm all for people driving more fuel efficient cars, taking public transit etc... but the fact remains, this county is going to double in population in 20 years, and no major thoroughfares are being added. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize traffic is going to get a lot worse. I don't see flying cars happening anytime soon, so we're probably going to need some more freeways.
Light Rail can help a lot and many will use it, but freeways are a vital part of any major metropolitan area. Most well-designed cities have some sort of "loop" going around the city. We have nothing, though there is room from Elk Grove to Folsom, there may be room from Elk Grove to Davis, Davis to Natomas, Natomas to Roseville, Roseville to Folsom. We need to start thinking about it now, while there is still room for these highways.

I couldn't agree more John !!! I just got back from a trip to Phoenix. I lived there in the 70s and it was just like Sacramento at that time... one freeway for everyone to use, otherwise u had to use surface streets like our Madison Expressway and Fair Oaks Freeway. I wish I knew how they did it, but they built a loop all the way around Phoenix, and several other ateries right through the middle of town. WOW, it was unbelievable! It's just about the easiest to get around of any major city in the US now... but it's still growing and they better keep building more freeways.
I was also in Sydney a couple winters back and was amazed how forward thinking they are. They have a bus/subway/ferry network that is just about the best I've ever seen for moving people... and it was built decades ago.
One of the reasons I moved from Carmichael to Folsom when I retired was because at least I didn't have to sit in traffic half my day. Where I'm situated in Empire Ranch, I could live here forever and not have to worry about traffic between me and where I want to shop, all of which is within 10 minutes. Almost makes life too easy. Unfortunately I still like to go to Sacramento (mostly because of the stupid airport) or Roseville once in awhile, and it's like driving thru LA. I will only do it outside rush hour periods... and even then it's like following cow paths from a hundred years ago.

The two forks of the American River you speak of are located in Placer and El Dorado Counties, neither of which have stepped up to the plate in the past to solve traffic issues that we already know are 80% their residents.

that's too bad. if you don't feel you can offer some constructive advice without resorting to sarcasm or being a wise-a**, maybe you should think before you post...

not where i picked it up, it's not. the big green sign off Green Valley Road says "Sophia Pkwy"....

it's a public road. i'm entitled to my 'short cuts' (which it's really not, seeing as how i can get from Point A to Point B in the same amount of time if i were to use Blue Ravine and then Oak Ave Pkwy), just as much as you're entitled to your neighborhood bike ride.....

so are you suggesting that it's illogical to try and work up alternatives? that there's no room for compromise? just because you've conceeded defeat ("aw, shucks, can't stop progress!"), doesn't mean people like myself that will hopefully be enjoying this area for another 50 years can't try to maintain some of the elements of Folsom that brought us here in the first place!

FedCorp and others have talked to Einstein/Noahs and they have not been interested so far...that's what I hear. UNLESS someone wants to call them and buy a franachise!
I'd love to see:
A Four Year University
An outdoor venue for concerts and performances
further biketrail/bike-way expansion
venues/activities for 18-25 year olds
