Very good to hear! - we will be going to Bidwell Street Bistro next Tuesday at noon for our next burger tasting, come on down and join us if you have time.

BSB is my favorite gourmet restaurant in town, I'm really looking forward to trying their burger and fries

I thought the burger was really good too. Maybe just a pinch of salt needed in the burger itself, but good tasting, quality meat.

BSB is a favorite of ours so I am looking forward to next Tuesday. Will reservations or poll for # of those going need to be made?

just as a sidenote, you guy's are going to not like me for this--- but you should add the burgers at Texas West Bbq- double cheese burger !! to your list as well as the burger at Po' boy's in the Vics shopping center. My waistline cannot handle all of these taste test, so I will do it vicariously through you young guns!! hehe because I have sampled all of the offerings from these very good establishments and realize that you have done a very fair and balanced job of sorting things out for the fine folks of Folsom... Both are in Folsom... add it to the list. Dunno if we're ever going to have a "best" at this rate wink.gif

I'm sticking to "only voting members can make recommendations". If you want to add your favorite to the list, you've only got a few to catch up!

I went to Karen's this week. The burger was pretty good:

1) Cooked pretty close to taste (a little over but not bad)
2) Beef quality seemed pretty good; I didn't get the pesto or aioli -- for good quality beef, I prefer not to mask the taste. To this end, I think they could add a little fattier cuts to the ground beef to make it juicer and less dry and rely less on third party sources of oil/flavor like pesto and mayo.
3) White cheddar paired well - flavorful but didn't over power the beef
4) Sauteed onions were a nice touch -- almost seemed like Maui onions (love them) to me but I actually prefer raw red onions on burgers
5) Fries weren't my type (see previous post) but they actually weren't bad.

Areas for improvement:
1) Bun and burger sizes didn't match. Was biting into just bread along the perimeter of the burger
2) Need the burger to be flatter -- it was a noticeably thicker in the middle. I prefer the patty to be a consistent thickness so that it's always a nice proportion between condiments, bun and burger.

Overall, not a bad burger. But I'd agree with putting FB over Karen's (especially when you factor in the fries).

Now, if you still have room for dessert, then Karen's might be the place to be.

I can't argue that. Leaving Karens after *just* eating the burger was hard. All the baked items looked delicious!

How flat? We engineers have methods for these things, you know!

LoL. Funny.

Actually, if I were writing a proper requirement, flat is probably not the right word. I think the point I was trying to make was:

Burger shall be a constant thickness of 0.6 inches after cooking to a center temperature of 145 degrees F.

I know this sentence doesn't meet the atomic criteria of requirements writing but I'd appreciate a little liberty. smile.gif

You guys are too funny. biggrin.gif

I actually left room for dessert. YUMMY!!!

Actually -- it could make for a great lazy day lunch spot (when it gets a little cooler outside). Lunch, dessert, hang out sipping fresh squeezed lemonade or coffee and watch the world go by. Ahhhh.

If you've never tried them, I highly recommend the Ho-Ho's and the Crocodiles. Oh, the fruit pies are excellent too. Of course, the bear claws are a must have. And then, one must not leave without trying brownies. Oh, oh, and don't forget to try the carrot cake.

And then on your next visit, try .... biggrin.gif

You should put Lake Forest Cafe on your radar, if you haven't already. Nice homemade burger, wheat bun, cabbage salad or potatoes.... the best part is the "buck a beer" promo they have now (also $1 champagne and/or mimosas i think). Not a huge selection of beer, but I saw Heineken, Fat Tire and Sierra Nevada. I was tempted to order a few beers to go! Cheaper than a six pack at the store nowadays.
