Proposed Mosque In Folsom

The Architectural Review Committee reviews a project's architectural design to ensure it is not incongruous with neighboring buildings and has enough design features so as not to be simply a box building. In the case of the mosque, the applicant submitted his plan which I believe was reviewed by the ARC. The neighbors to the proposed mosque are the commercial buildings across Levy on the other corner of Sibley and Levy, the tow and storage yard uphill on Levy from the mosque site, and the rental yard and gravel yard further up Levy. So, the mosque was reviewed and found to be of sufficient architectural interest to be approved by ARC. The Planning Commission has an opportunity to make design suggestions if desired.
I think we should remember that houses of worship have their styles - the Jewish have their synagog styles, the Catholics their Cathedral styles, the Mormons their temples, and even Jehovah's Witnesses have their styles. So, it stands to reason that Muslims want to adhere to their Mosque style. It wouldn't be reasonable to expect them to design a California Mission-style mosque, do you think?

Well, let's see, if we had to choose between the two as neighbors:
--We could have an open-minded church that embraces peace and equality and believes that all respectful, loving relationships between two consenting adults are holy in God's eyes; or
--We could have a religious group that has codified oppression of women, that demonizes dogs as "filth" that are "touched by Satan," and about which questions have continually been raised (from WITHIN the group itself) about whether they have sincerely repudiated terrorism...
If I had my druthers, I know which one I would choose to be my neighbors.
Still, I realize that in America, decisions are not made according to my druthers or even according to majority opinion. All groups have a right to worship, regardless of how wacky or objectionable their beliefs may be to others.
As has been said many times, we can remain hopeful that the Muslims who will worship in Folsom are more reform-minded and will embrace peace, equality for women, and yes, even dogs.

If you're really that concerned with what goes on in Folsom and in your neighborhood you need to start checking the agendum for the City Council, Planning Commission, Architectrual Review Committee, etc., and the public notices in the Telegraph and on the City's website.
Have a nice meeting, but you're sure not going to change the mosque project at this late date.

"Oh yes, well as soon as I heard I went straight round to see them, yesterday afternoon. You hadn't exactly gone out of your way to call attention to them had you? I mean like actually telling anybody or anything."
"But the plans were on display ..."
"On display? I eventually had to go down to the cellar to find them."
"That's the display department."
"With a torch."
"Ah, well the lights had probably gone."
"So had the stairs."
"But look, you found the notice didn't you?"
"Yes," said Arthur, "yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying Beware of the Leopard."

Sounds just like the Catholic Church you are describing... what is it with all their false god worship - Hail Mary's and the lot ???

You should have been outraged at the desimation of Miners Ridge ( across from Safeway) although we never saw your voice added to protest it...
And now you are concerned with something that will not even cause ANY extra traffic nor will be as unsightly as a Wall Mart, Winco or a Scuby dubby car wash ??
Jeez- get your priorities straight-
By the way=- 130 parking places and 300 in attendence would be not be an issue with parking as if they needed it- they could park on Lembi or in the parking lot across the street since it is not used by THAT church on Friday much,,,,

Well played! I suppose I'd better check with the city ever day to make sure they are building a dog slaughterhouse, cuz I wouldn't want that.

I think that you have your directions confused since Lembi is quite a bit away from Sibley and Levy. There is NO where to park across the street.. I don't have a problem with grocery stores being built in the area since they are a necessity and don't devalue property. It's not the mosque that I'm having problems with but the small piece of property on which they plan to build it, and the increase in traffic on Levy.

Now that you mention it, I heard that a dog slaughterhouse was being planned immediately next to the mosque. Hmmm... Coincidence?
