Aww, that's too bad. I was just thinking the other week that I needed to pop in there for lunch someday. Looks like they closed up shop in Folsom AND Granite Bay, and opened up a new place in Roseville.

http://www.granitosfusion.com/

The inappropriate usage of apostrophes on their website and menu drives me NUTS!!!!

Their new location in Roseville is not good, either. It seems like homeowners know the old axiom, "location, location, location," but it doesn't seem to have caught on in the business community.

Maybe we should have a thread on where NOT to open a restaurant.

I agree, their Folsom location was right next to the best restaurant in town - Bidwell Street Bistro - if they had been located somewhere else they may have done better.

Now with the move to Roseville they did it yet again and will now be located next to Crush 29, another very good restaurant.

If someone is going to dine out and spend $100 or more, they're likely not going to go for pasta when they have a much better dining choice literally right next door.

I disagree being next to a good or great competitor (restaurant) because if I intend to dine at BSB for example, and we will see Granito's as we drive up, we will add it to our mental list of Italian place to try in the future. If we can't get into BSB or Crush 29, it becomes another choice that evening.

Also in the their Folsom location if it wasn't for reviews or advertisements, I may never have discovered BSB. It is tucked away, hidden from the traffic. Folsom Bistro may have suffered from being hidden (great food and service). Hacienda does well because it has a great location and drinks despite negative food reviews.

Normally a good frontage location with traffic is ideal but there are exceptions like the Lyons/Sizzler/China Buffet where the restaurant was poorly designed (Sizzler) or failed to meet customer expectations. Restaurant location has got to be one of the toughest elements to be successful - seem great food/service places close the doors and we can all agree there are a few bad places that oddly stay in business because they are in the right place to attract customers.

Being next to BSB doesn't seem to slow down La Fiesta's business

Speaking of bad location, we tried the new (again) Mexican place on Folsom/Auburn over the weekend.

That's because they're in the next set of buildings - not right next door to BSB like Granito's was, and they're not higher end dining (price included) like BSB and Granito's.

I did want to try Granito's but every time I went that direction I ended up going to BSB instead, the prices were similar and I already am a huge fan of BSB and know that I'll always get great food for there the money - where as Granito's had consistent bad reviews and was always empty (a bad sign) -plus I honestly can't justify spending $$$ on basic pasta dishes. (that's just my personal preference)

Regarding La Fiesta, they will always be winners in my book for best Mexican cuisine in Folsom.

Well, that's too bad about Granito's. After the Visconti's discussion, I was thinking of trying Granito's. I once ate at the Granite Bay location and was not impressed at all.

Oh well. I'm still hoping to find a great Italian place.

My wife went to Granitos once. Had linguine with clams and mussels. 3 of each came on the plate in an oily sauce. I believe that set her back $22.

It was okay. Worth another try. Dead empty though.

It's by McDonald's, across the street from Sushi Unlimited. It's where the Folsom Bistro used to be.

I think it's called Mi Pueblito, or something close to that. From the outside, it looks more like a sit down mexican place, and not a taqueria type place.

It was probably empty because no one knows it has opened. I drove by it (right in front--not just on Folsom-Auburn) last week to see if it was open. It wasn't--at least I don't think it was. It still had the"Opening Soon" sign up. hmmm....I did see a couple of people go inside. I had assumed they were the owners or other people getting the place ready to open--maybe they were actually customers!
