I think that you have your directions confused since Lembi is quite a bit away from Sibley and Levy.  There is NO where to park across the street..  I don't have a problem with grocery stores being built in the area since they are a necessity and don't devalue property.  It's not the mosque that I'm having problems with but the small piece of property on which they plan to build it, and the increase in traffic on Levy.

Sorry- it should have said Levy-- ( lembi levy - what the hay) same story though- LOTS of parking and Few if any will use Levy to get to and from the Mosque....

There is a large parking lot directly across the street from where the church is to be built. It is for the businesses located there, but it is rarely full. The storage business, the rental business, and the concrete business that will be adjacent to the new mosque surely do not generate any traffic.

In addition, I believe, Glenn and/or Blue Ravine would be the more likely roads used to get to the mosque on Sibley. Levy is a small, narrow street.

Church groups don't tend to create a lot of noise and traffic. These particular mosque leaders have stated they will not be doing that loud call to prayer like they tried in Detroit.

There are other reasons to be cautious. Mosque leaders are known for raising funds to support terrorism and for recruiting terrorists. That is the true concern about this.

Since many (most?) people who attend houses of worship go with their families and not alone, the parking lot may very well accommodate the vast majority -- if not all -- of the worshippers.

I thought they were taking away Muslim's drivers licenses? Why do they need parking spaces anyway!

They shouldn't be allowed to drive. How can you tell they're not going to be the next suicide carbomber?

Mylo, they already know where the next cell is. It's already in Folsom. Lucky for us they're already behind bars and terrorists don't like to strike in the neighborhoods where they actually live.

QUOTE(bordercolliefan @ July 27 2005)
Our rational mind knows that 99% of American Muslims are peace-loving and pro-Democracy.  It is also an indisputable fact that some small percentage of Muslims in America are sympathetic to terrorists and/or wish to harm us.

This is why I would have to say that any prejudices are not actually subconscious, as suggested earlier. Knowing that even one Folsom Muslim might desire to kill my family makes me wary of a group of them gathering. The One might be recruiting the rest, 25% of whom might agree that it's okay for him to kill my family even though they wouldn't help.

QUOTE(bordercolliefan @ Aug 17 2005, 11:00 AM)
--We could have a religious group that has codified oppression of women, that demonizes dogs as "filth" that are "touched by Satan," and about which questions have continually been raised (from WITHIN the group itself) about whether they have sincerely repudiated terrorism...

Again, I am extremely wary of this group as a whole. But, the problem with opposing the mosque is that the group is already here, and they are already worshipping, and they are already hating us and recruiting if that is their intent. I don't think having an official mosque will change any of that for better or for worse.

If they are honest about their desire to allay fears by having open church and ceremonies, I feel better about it.

Well sure, Muslims don't have the corner on "wacky" beliefs... after all, we've got folks right here in Folsom teaching that the earth is only 6,000 years old and that Adam and Eve roamed with the dinosaurs... On the other hand, most Christian sects -- wacky as they may be -- don't promise 72 virgins in heaven for blowing up innocent people, nor do they advocate stripping women of the rights to vote, drive and divorce, and abandoning dogs to starve in the street. (Note I say "most"... I can't vouch for every one).

Lately I have been wondering what would happen if a skinhead white supremacist church wanted to open a branch in Folsom. --Would you feel it appropriate to point out the objectionable nature of their beliefs... or would you feel that their beliefs are immune from criticism, as some seem to feel that Islamic beliefs are?
