Fantastic show - I loved all the guests and surprises ...except of course for those two who were clearly high eek.gif

I didn't get to watch the whole thing. Dish.

Prince rocks.

OK, I've liked Taylor since the begining (tho. I wanted Chris to win) but it sure seemed unexciting at the end. I felt that Taylor was a lock.

And, again, what a stupid song. Taylor isn't going to be the pop star they want if they keep making him do songs like that one last night!

Taylor can't be a pop star - He's just a lounge act... Everyone will forget about him in a week or so. It's such a shame that Chris has to go on tour w/ these Idol wannabes instead of signing w/ a real band.

One thing that really got to me last night was when Ryan said that more people voted for the Idol contestants than for President... gee, maybe because you can't vote multiple times for a presidential candidate... at least not legally tongue.gif

Eric, I agree with you on the voting. You can only vote once for president. They should have just said that they got more votes, than more people voted. So dumb on their part.

I am glad that Taylor won though.

The one singing with Elliot -- I think Mary J Blige and the one singing with Taylor after that - i think Tony Braxton - her eyes looked like they were spinning.

I couldn't even hear Toni Braxton's vocal. I think Taylor carried that song for her...

This is how the final vote turned out:

Hicks 57.14 percent (approx 36,226,760 votes)
McPhee 42.85 percent (approx 27,173,240 votes)

He won by approx 9 million votes (not even close)

How you voted
As readers of The York Dispatch go, so goes the nation.

For the 63.4 million who relayed votes to the Fox television program, just as for the 98 who voted in the Dispatch Web poll, the new "American Idol" is prematurely gray male singer Taylor Hicks of Birmingham, Ala.

In the Dispatch poll, Hicks beat out runner-up Katharine McPhee of Los Angeles 57.14 percent to 42.85 percent. Master of ceremonies Ryan Seacrest did not give the percentage breakdown for the 63.4 million.

We just rewatched it this weekend. She certainly looks as though she's really high on something....cocaine??
As for Mary J Blinge, on second viewing I, she may be high, but she may just also be very very Mary J Blige and get off the stage Elliot cause I'm Mary J Blige.

On antoher note, I thought Ryan looked downright authentic for a change...

We were camping last week Wed - Tues, but saw most of the show at the lodge. I was the only one there watching (6 of us) that wanted McPheever to win also. Anyway, I hung in there. I like Taylor also, I hope they manage him right and he can make some big bucks out of all of this. I think he can be a star if he is managed right.

'Idol' Taylor Hicks has No. 1 single

Thursday, June 22, 2006; Posted: 3:22 p.m. EDT (19:22 GMT)

NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) -- Season five "American Idol" champion Taylor Hicks' soulful rendition of "Do I Make You Proud" will debut on the top of the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart to be published Thursday.

The silver-haired Alabama native sold 190,000 physical singles and another 38,000 digital downloads of the track, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Three of the previous four "Idol" winners also have nabbed the top spot on the singles roster. Carrie Underwood's "Inside Your Heaven" sold a combined 169,000 units in its first full week last year. Fantasia's "I Believe" moved 142,000 and Kelly Clarkson sold 236,000 of "A Moment Like This."

Season two runner-up Clay Aiken scored the No. 1 spot with "This Is the Night" with a whopping 393,000, staving off winner Ruben Studdard's "Flying Without Wings" (286,000).

As previously reported, Hicks is currently recording for his 19 Recordings/Arista album debut, which is slated for release this fall.

"I'm really excited," Hicks told Billboard.com. "There's gonna be some really, really great things on the album. I've got some secret stuff that I'm completely stoked about and I know everybody else will be, too."

Just goes to show you what bad taste American listeners have. I like Taylor, but the song's lame-O.

There was a star that sang a song
And lame-o was it's name-o.
lame-o!
lame-o!
lame-o!

Sorry, I couldn't resist. It just popped into my head as I read CW's post.
They can do much better than that for someone as good as Taylor.

Remember way back in this thread someone posted that one contestant wasn't what they seemed on the show? I think the general consensus was that Taylor wasn't quite the nice guy like he appeared. But check out what I read today:

Katharine McPhiddle-de-dee

"American Idol" runnerup Katharine McPhee managed to project a sweet and sunny personality on the show.

But off camera, the 22-year-old Californian can be "sullen and miserable," according to a Lowdown spy who attended McPhee's personal appearance in Brooklyn for the christening of the ocean liner Crown Princess.

"She was nasty," reports the spy. "Katharine was cranky and in a foul mood. When a reporter asked her about those rumors that she was invited to sing at Tom Cruise's wedding and that John Mayer asked her out, she freaked out and said, 'Why are you asking such stupid questions?'" The spy added, "She's a diva after two weeks of fame."

McPhee - whose first single is being released next Tuesday - was better behaved during a confessional interview with People magazine, in which she opened up about her five-year bout with bulimia. "I was binging my whole life away for days at a time," she confided.

Lowdown's calls to her PR rep were not returned.

she thought she was a diva even back on the show. thats one thing I really didn't like about her was that she was trying to act like she was famous even when she's not.

Sucks that she's being a jerk like that - she has no right to - she needs to be humbled

Thats whats great about Taylor - he seems like a normal person who hasn't let fame go to his head
