Is it Bread? Or is it Cake? Let's bake, people:

Who draws the crowd and plays so loud,
Baby it's the guitar man.
Who's gonna steal the show, you know
Baby it's the guitar man,

He can make you love, he can make you cry
He will bring you down, then he'll get you high
Somethin' keeps him goin', miles and miles a day
To find another place to play.

Night after night who treats you right,
Baby it's the guitar man
Who's on the radio, you go listen
To the guitar man

Then he comes to town, and you see his face,
And you think you might like to take his place
Somethin' keeps him driftin' miles and miles away
Searchin' for the songs to play.

Then you listen to the music and you like to sing along,
You want to get the meaning out of each and every song
Then you find yourself a message and some words to call your own
And take them home.

He can make you love, he can get you high
He will bring you down, then he'll make you cry
Somethin' keeps him movin', but no one seems to know
What it is that makes him go.

Then the lights begin to flicker and the sound is getting dim
The voice begins to falter and the crowds are getting thin
But he never seems to notice hes just got to find
Another place to play,
Anyway got to play, anyway got to play.

Yeah...Puff...now there's a good song!! loco.gif laugh.gif I am actually too young to remember Peter, Paul & Mary...but my older brothers and sisters listened to them. One of my sisters had the "Hammer" album, if I remember right. When I was little, one of my favorite pastimes was getting invited into an older sibling's room to look at all their neat stuff and I would go thru all their albums, one by one, mostly looking at the cover art and such. I swear, one of my sisters must have had more than three hundred albums and "45's" (maybe it just seemed like more because I was little!) but that kept me busy for hours. Gee...simple minds amuse easily, I guess... laugh.gif But it was cool because she had the beatles, elvis, the guess who, bread, gordon lightfoot, james taylor...just to name a few. I got my appreciation of music early in life sitting on the floor of my sister's room! Good times, good times rolleyes.gif

This one is too cute:

'Twas Halloween and the ghosts were out,
And everywhere they'd go, they shout,
And though I covered my eyes I knew,
They'd go away.

But fear's the only thing I saw,
And three days later 'twas clear to all,
That nothing is as scary as election day.

But the day after is darker,
And darker and darker it goes,
Who knows, maybe the plans will change,
Who knows, maybe he's not deranged.

The news men know what they know, but they,
Know even less than what they say,
And I don't know who I can trust,
For they come what may.

'Cause we believed in our candidate,
But even more it's the one we hate,
I needed someone I could shake,
On election day.

But the day after is darker,
And deeper and deeper we go,
Who knows, maybe it's all a dream,
Who knows if I'll wake up and scream.

I love the things that you've given me,
I cherish you my dear country,
But sometimes I don't understand,
The way we play.

I love the things that you've given me,
And most of all that I am free,
To have a song that I can sing,
On election day.

To me, they are more current than what I usually listen to. I was playing "Old Cape Cod" the other day and when I parked, an elderly woman came up to me and said that she hadn't heard that song in a long time and it brought back memories for her.

However, Ella Fitzgerald gets me everytime.

I only go back as far as 60's and 70's classic rock. And a little 50's, too. But can't argue about Ella...she got voice! biggrin.gif She was a favorite of my mom's rolleyes.gif

Here's a song from our families piano bench. I don't know where it came from, or who the artist was.

Have you ever been blue?

Have you ever loved someone?

Have you ever found them--

Have you ever given them a hug?

Have you ever blue?

Have you ever noticed-

life's a bit better, when your in love?

This one got the best of my pregnancy hormones yesterday and I was all weepy:

Heaven don't want me
Heaven don't fool me
And no one will understand
And it's all right
Feelin' these changes
Everybody is strangers
No one will lend a hand
And I guess that's life
1, 2, 3, 4

You say you got a feeling
You figured out the writing on the wall
And angels on the ceiling
Don't calm you when you call
So you found your own religion
And search your heart for something more
Stood naked in the kitchen
Trying to wipe yourself off of the floor

No, I wont take you for granted
These broken arms can hold you
No, I won't take you for granted

You say you don't matter
You're livin' life
You're livin' alone
You hear the phony laughter
Echoing on and on
You're hiding under water
I pray to God, "Wash me away"
Can't hear the child's wonder
The innocence got hushed along the way
And you say, and you say now

No, I won't take you for granted
These broken arms can heal you
No, I won't take you for granted
No, I won't leave you abandoned
This broken heart can love you still
No, I won't take you for granted

And you don't say you will
But inside I know
And you don't say that it hurts
And tonight you've shown
All the love in the world
Won't let you let go
Let you let go oh oh oh

Hold on, your soul will rise again
I know that it will
Hold on, your soul will rise again
I say that it will
And hold on, your soul will rise again
I know that it will now

Heaven don't want me
Heaven don't fool me
And no one could give a damn
And I guess that's life

You say you got a feeling
