C.) After much consideration, I think the best method is to use what I call "The Artist formerly known as Prince" method and call it the "The structure formerly known as the Folsom Dam road".

I guess technically, the dam road still exists and will be used by dam personel. It just won't go through to natoma street anymore. On the northern side of the river, the new road will intersect Folsom-Auburn Rd west of the Dam road intersection. And as they are re-routing all kinds of stuff on the southern side of the river, I presume the road will have a new name.

So an accurate and short descriptive title would be "The dam road bypass"

Hey, what happened to my B) answer?

well, short version, yes, American River Bridge is geographically accurate

Well, they relocated the sign, from the dam road and placed it where the new road leading to the bridge is. Yes, that portion of the road is pretty much completed; there is a light there-now. They also installed a "blinker" light several hundred feet from the turn, when they widened the road and and rebuilt the side-walk.

Sadly, they did not put a cross walk or even reflectors in front of the apartment area there;;even tho nearly 20 kids either cross there ( on the way to school in the mornings ) or wait for the bus. This very fast moving lane directly in front of the apartment complex is going to have a tragedy.

As for the road that used to be dam road--I believe it is going to be closed and be a court or circle.
The lines on that map you see on the Folsombridge.com that run from F-A are not entirely accurate. In fact, they are considerably inaccurate.

So they moved the street signs that say "Dam Road" to the new intersection? Interesting.
If they close off the other entrance, I presume they will be putting in a side street for the Bureau of Reclamation to have access. Well, if the road keeps the same dam name, then my directions will work, "Turn on the dam road and go across the dam(n) bridge, then make a left at ..."

Silly goose, they used the area between the dam road ( used to be the bike path ) and a portion of land that they took away from the apartment complex and built a straight road that goes directly to the bridge.

The dam road is a service circle that has been pushed around ( literally with a bull dozer) for the last 2 months or so--as they had renovated the property around the water what ever building and the utility parking lot. So, yeah, from the F-A it looks like its still there-but once the road reaches the backside of the water buildings it has all become dirt mounds--nowhere near where the road they built for the bridge--is located.

My understanding is that the existing bike trail on the direct back side of the aprtment complex is designed to drive under the escarpment of the road just before the bridge and then come out just before Beale point.

However, I think there was an engineering issue or aa change of plans.

That portion hasn't been shared with anyone, yet.

Well, I just screen captured 5 views from google maps.
When it's all done and new satellite photos are updated, it will be interesting to compare them.

So between the Lake Natoma Crossing and the Folsom Lake Crossing, can we consider it "double crossing"

I really like that Double Crossing idea! Once we connect the two with bike trails, we can have the Double Crossing half marathon, etc.

Glad it's not named Johnny Cash. I don't think the general Folsom public would vote the same as myfolsomites. Did they consider La Puente Que Cruza El Rio de Los Americanos? Folsom-American River Crossing? Whatever! It's a dam bridge.

2.) There is something called Orange Blossom in Natomas.

Okay, off topic, but I just have to correct this. Nobody who lives in Natoma Station can stand it when people call it Natomas (which is a village far away from here). Natoma Station is named after the Natoma (no 'S') Water Company train stop. When the Natoma Water Co. combined with some other companies they became the Natomas Companies.

On that same thread:

Lake Natoma is around Rainbow Bridge.
Lake Natomas will be where Natomas is right now, after the levy's break.

East Natoma is a street in Folsom, by city hall.
East Natomas is on the other side of the county, by the foreclosure sign.

Late to the game but:

a. Dumb name for the bridge. It's a bridge and it doesn't cross Folsom Lake. Way to pat yourself on the back and give Folsom recognition. We'll be recognized for not knowing what body of water the frickin' bridge crosses over!

b. Orange Blossom Circle. Never think of Johnny Cash, but rather one of Florida's best known souvenirs, Orange Blossom Perfume. Used to pick up some with every yearly visit when I was a child.

I'm not defending the name of the bridge; frankly I think all finalist names lacked creativity.

However, on the note of "Folsom Lake"......There are numerous businesses and organizations in town that include the name "Folsom Lake" without actually being on or at the lake. Just a few include Folsom Lake 76, Folsom Lake Bank, Folsom Lake Bowl, Folsom Lake Chiropractic, Folsom Lake Liqors, Folsom Lake Chrysler Jeep (and all the other Folsom Lake dealerships), Folsom Lake Symphony Orchestra, Folsom Lake College.

cross·ing (krôsng, krsng) n.
1. The act or action of crossing.
2.
a. A place at which roads, lines, or tracks intersect; an intersection.
b. A place at which a river, railroad, or highway, for example, may be crossed: a railroad crossing; a pedestrian crossing.

A river crossing crosses a river. A railroad crossing crosses a railroad.

Folsom Lake Bridge would have made more sense than Folsom Lake Crossing, which implies, like Lake Natoma Crossing, that it CROSSES FOLSOM LAKE!

I agree that Folsom Lake Crossing doesn't make any sense. Again, I didn't like any of the choices. sad.gif
