Folsom Car Bombing

I think mixing with and getting to know our neighbors at community social events and probably PTA and HOA meetings (wherever applicable) would be a great first place to start.
Personally I have often found that prejudice seems to fade when people know and can coomunicate with each other.

Nobody died - read the entire article that was posted and you'll notice the following sentence in it:
No one was injured by the incident, which happened shortly after 3 a.m.
you guys have a lynch mob mentality with Jaxx as your town cryer getting you all whipped up into a frenzy.
ever heard of the possibility of an electrical short causing a spark to ignite a flammable fluid in a car that could escalate into an eventual explosion? and maybe the white guy was out for a walk and ran for his life when he saw a car fire. These are valid possibilities, look at the latest Ford Expedition recall. Its for a problem with exactly what I just described and has caused for several houses to burn down while the car was parked inside garages at night. Nobody from the KKK set those cars on fire, nobody in Al Queda snuck in and attached a bomb to the under carriage.
you guys gotta quit watching so much tv
and wait for a police investigation report before you jump to conclusions with all these conspiracy theories and murder plots etc

In the Fox40 report I watched last night, there was an incindiary device that was thrown in to the car. And nobody goes for a walk at 3am.

It acutally woke me up out of a dead sleep, but I didnt learn what it was until today. I live on the 200 block of Montrose so it was very close.

Also, my next door neighbor had someone banging on his door that same night around 1:30am. By the time he answered the door no one was there. Well, he decided he better go get his pants on and go outside and take a look. When he was dressed and walking back towards the front door, a man was standing in the hallway. Apparently it turned out that the guy was on some sort of drugs because he thought he was in his own house. 4 cops showed up in less than 2 minutes and he was arrested. Just a scary thought that 2 things happened in one night right in the same area. Our neighbor learned his lesson and will never walk away from the door without locking it.

I also agree with ManSinha. Getting to know out neighbors is the single best way to understand each other's humanity and prevent prejudice. I am reminded of this again and again in my own life.
By extension, it is so important that we facilitate the integration of immigrants into our communities. When we live beside each other, work beside each other, and send our children to school together, we will form common bonds. We need to avoid the terrible situations we see in Europe where immigrants are isolated in their own communities with little opportunity for assimilation and advancement.

Ever been up at 3am to see? You'd be surprised how many folks are out there jogging or walking before going to work in the bay area (excercise is good before the long drive). Plus Fox40 is known to exaggerate stories to sensationalize them. For all we know some kid could have tossed a lit cigerette into the open car window and it caught fire. I'll be interested to see Folsom PD's report on this and hear what is really found to be the cause. I doubt they will find it was a bomb.

I dunno.. they are building that mosque over on Sibley. With all the layoffs at Intel, you might just have some out-of-work Jihadists that plot to explode vehicles before their usual morning jog. Don't be surprised to find out it was Al Qaida Folsom.

AND yes, we have no details on this alleged fire bombing...IT could just be some nut case that has no idea about the race of the family...However, how sad it is if it is racially motivated....

I don't think it was anything intended to kill anyone, but from what it sounded like, it was definitely malicious/premeditated, and much more than a cigarette. It sounded more in line with a molotov cocktail. I only caught it while watching TV last night though, so I could be wrong.
I agree, let's not jump on the race card just yet... it was perhaps a crime of opportunity. Disturbing none the less.

Well, that does explain the Jihad that Intel announced against the Athlon.

^ I dunno... I guess my point was that the victim could have been random - only guy with his car in the driveway and window rolled down or something. Just a theory.
That is absolutely possible, John. We just don't know.
Generally a race hate crime will have other earmarks -- like a swastika scrawled on the house or something. Otherwise, no one knows it's a hate crime... which tends to defeat the purpose of hate crimes.

This is pathetic!
Maybe you should wait to see if the police catch the person and then see if they can determine a motive before you start with any comments. Even if you are right about the motive....your wrong for prejudging others...
If you want to end prejudice...then do your part by showing patience and allow the facts to come foreward.
Folsom will NOT sit by and do nothing if indeed one of its citizens has been targeted for violence simply because of the color of their skin!
What is pathetic is the belief that this sort of thing (a hate crime) couldn't happen in Folsom. If you'd walk a mile in the shoes of a minority person in this town, you'd look at it differently. In order to believe it could be a hate crime, you'd have to believe there is racism in Folsom. There is.
Here are the facts as reported through several news outlets:
* Police confirmed it was an incendiary device
* A white male was seen running from the place
* Police are investigating it as a possible hate crime
Yes, it is pathetic that some lowly coward would attack someone with a firebomb in the middle of the night.
If the perpetrator were Middle Eastern or muslim, we'd call him a terrorist, right? What do we call this guy?
I've mentioned a couple of times here how an Afghani 3rd grader was pushed around, insulted, humiliated and marginalized at school after 9/11. It didn't matter that his family fled the Taliban, he was the same race, so he was made a target. Where did 3rd graders get their views on the matter? I'd guess their parents.
Every day we read on myfolsom.com posts from people attacking muslims and immigrants, accusing them of terrorism, sympathizing with terrorists, refusing to assimilate, and importing their 'sewers of society'.
Folsom has some great and wonderful people, but we also have our share of racists. Some Folsom PD officers jokingly refer to "NIF" calls. You know what that stands for? "N*gger in Folsom." They call it that because that's just what gets reported to them. "Hello, I just saw a black man driving through my neighborhood. Please send a patrol car."
My daughters have told me that the 'N' word is used frequently by Folsom kids.
I even had to jump in on a conversation my teenag daughter's friend were having, claiming that the 'Mexicans are taking over". Where do they get such crap?
There have been people who have said "we cannot allow this mosque to be built."
It does not surprise me in the least that this firebomb has happened. I expect more as the mosque goes up.
When a minority person's home is firebombed by a young white male, yes we assume it could be race related. We'd be naive to deny it.
We can admit that it is possible, even likely that it was a race related hate crime, or we can pretend that because the guy didn't leave a swastika, that he just chose it at random, and heck, the guy seen running away could have been any race, it just happens that a white guy was jogging past on his way to work (by the way, why didn't he report it? maybe he saw something."
Yes, Robert, it is pathetic.

I haven't seen a single person say a hate crime couldn't happen in Folsom. That is just an outright distortion of people's comments.
What I have seen people say is: let's wait until we have more facts. There are multiple possible explanations for this event.
You're the one who's being close-minded here, Steve, by refusing to admit that there is ANY OTHER POSSIBLE EXPLANATION for this crime other than race.
Who knows... maybe the victim had a dog who always pee'd on the other guy's lawn (just thought I'd throw in something you can relate to!
