NEW YORK - Paula Abdul's spacy behavior on "American Idol" have prompted many to ponder if there's a tumbler or two of booze in that red cup on the table in front of her on the Fox talent contest.
That's nonsense, the 44-year-old "Idol" judge tells Us Weekly magazine in its Feb. 16 issue. "I've never been drunk. I have never done recreational drugs," she says. "Just look at my 20-year career. Tell me someone who is into partying or doing drugs that could have done that."
In her five years on "Idol," Abdul — a singer and a movie, TV and stage choreographer — has weathered criticism about her sometimes odd behavior, which has included slurred and garbled speech, and her not-so-subtle gushing over the show's young, male singers.
--What do you think, do we believe her?

Nope. She's often higher than a kite. Though she may not be drunk and may not have done recreational drugs, she has a chronic pain problem and I think drugs get the best of her. But, it's not like I really know.
Regardless, if she's like that naturally, she still needs help.

she doesn't get drunk or use drugs. In other news O.J. was actually innocent and the earth is actually flat.

I know! I was shocked. I thought she was one of the best, if not THE best that I'd seen out of all of the contestants. Guess the moral to this story is "don't forget your lyrics".....

Okay, okay, please tell me what procedures DO look good so that I can get them.
Yes, look at what she says. She doesn't drink and use "recreational" drugs. That leaves open a whole prescription drug area. She has resources and can get what she wants.
Maybe they'll vote to bring Bailey back after they narrow down to top ten. Remember, the judges usually get to pick one person for another try.

Bailey - her mom didn't look to happy! Was Bailey the one who didn't practice and went and flirted with the boys?
Oh yea, the wild cards. I forgot about them

No.....The girl who went and flirted with the guys was ultimately cut at the end of the show.

Now I had previously seen an interview with Simon Cowell and he was asked why is he so direct and sometimes downright mean to some of the contestants...
As a former bass player who has done my share of gigs in local "nite" clubs... casual gigs like big private parties... company parties... High School/College dances... fairs... you have to practice... practice... practice... so I have a good appreciation for anyone who succeeds in the music business.. many great players/singers... never get the big break....
with all that said... Simon answered the question by saying... I'm paraphrasing here of course.... "we give these people a chance to make it in the music business... if they succeed in the competition, they are going to get a recording contract... a tour and make a lot of money... they have to compete and they have to be good...I'm not going to tell someone that is awful and tone deaf they are great like their mommy's will"...
So last year I watched from the beginnning to end... I own a Kelli Pickler CD and she is good... if she keeps her mind right.. I think she'll be a huge star... Daughtry is already huge in his genre... Catherine McPhee hasn't even come out with her album yet... but she's going to be around and making a living at music...
Even the winner Taylor Hicks is good... We'll see how he does in the future... but if you watched last year... several of the final 12 were experienced in the business already... Taylor had his own band as well as Daughtry and I forget some of the others....so they don't come to the table with out some training and experience... most of them at least...
This year there is a young man and a young woman that have had experience singing "back up" for some road groups out on tours... and that is a hard life... trust me... I watched their tryouts and Randy did make a comment that singing lead out front is much different than being a back up singer even if you have the talent...
As for comments about Paula.... come on.. how can you not like her... she has accomplished a lot in her lifetime... and she doesn't have to apologize... I think she brings a lot to the show... Randy if you didn't know has been around a while... and used to play bass for Journey I think and some other groups and is now a producer....
I agree with previous posters that some of these folks that are made fun of make it painfull to watch.. and this year it looks like they are really sticking it to the ones that should know better....but you know what...? this is still a country of "free will"... no one held a gun to their head to walk in there in front of those three judges... and they get what ever they deserve... some get a "welcome to Hollywood"... and some get "just appalling".... or "the worst I've heard all day"...
This is the one show besides my "right wing wacko" Fox News channel that I will make time in my day for....
It's a great show... and has a proven record of finding some great talent....
Carrie Underwood... she won a grammy and a country music award late last year and beat out the likes of Faith Hill... remember Faith getting PO'd when she thought she had won...
I forget the gal who is in the movie Dreamgirls and has an Oscar Nomination.. ?she was a contestant at AI....
and there are so many others that I forget them... but you know what...? they are all going to be around making a living at what the love to do... if they choose to do it....

I know! I totally thought she would make it all the way, or almost. They let that awful chubby pappa roach look alike with the awful goatee through, and he was hooooorrable. Now I'm rooting for the fatty with the curly hair! Or maybe the brother whose sister didn't make it, because he seems so sweet.

Bailley Brown is young, she can come back next year. She was obviously not ready if she couldn't remember the lyrics. I do think she got screwed by being with the two best friends, but she still could have pulled it out if she was more mature.
EDF - Jennifer Hudson won a Golden Globe and is Oscar-nominated.
I don't think they do the wild card thing anymore. Now it's the girls against girls and boys against boys until they get down to a certain number, then they are combined.
As for Paula, who knows. I have heard some speculation that she could have a neurological disorder. I guess Annette Funicello acted similarly and had to announce that she had MS. Paula seems wasted to me, but I guess you don't know.

I've always thought that Paula was looped, but I should have know better. My sister has a drinking problem, but I've realized that oftentimes when I think she's drunk, she's just on her bi-polar high. She's manic and when she's flying on her high, she slurs her words and just can't put everything together well. Paula's actions could be non-substance related.
