You think that's bad--try to find a cleaners that knows how to do a military press on your uniforms. Most of them just can't figure out (even after mulitple explanations) that the BDU and the Dress Uniforms require a different pressed look. bleeep ity bleeping bleeper on california press look. Carefully hanging semi wet on a hanger is about the same quality of press "look". Do it your self or better yet, pay the kids to do it!! My aren't old enough ofcoarse but when we lived on a military installlation I loved the entrepeurnarialship of the teens on post. Make a pot of rice, pore the water into a spray bottle, sell the rice to their mom's as a partial meal made (yep, they actually did that) rice starch is the strongest starch out there. They would take a uniform a day for $10 a week and starch it and press it. Plus they would ask for a bonus around Christmas-along with the newspaper kid, the recycle kid, the car wash kid, snow salting kid....

They complain more and therefore are more costly to do business with.

Both of my sons were in the Marines, and they pressed their own uniforms. I was surprised at how well they iron! They got those uniforms so stiff, I thought they were using glue!
Oh yes, the rice water, my grandmother use to iron with it , however she didn't use a spray bottle..she would take a mouthful and then spit it (spray) out onto the shirt!!! I found that to be so funny as a kid!

Who complains more, the customer or the buisness? Why should this make any difference on the cost of doing buisness?

If the quaility of work is good and they run an honest buisness, then it shouldn't be a problem to anyone and there shouldn't be any complaints.

1. Because they can?
2.
3. To make up for the free drinks women get on ladies night?
4. Make up for the dinners that men pay for when taking a woman out?
5. Make up for the more expensive suits men have to wear at work?

You've really got quite a sense of humor!! :lmaosmiley:
As for free drinks for ladies nights... that's so a man can get a woman hammered enough so she would agree to go out to dinner with him... Then he can impress the woman in his expensive suit, Then... the woman will fall in love with him and want to spend the rest of her life taking his clothes to the cleaners...
:lmaosmiley:
You are right in your #1 statement.. "because they can". So true!
Maybe women are charged more because their clothes are usually more delicate and have to be handled differently?

I took some dress shirts of mine to Dry Clean Today and the price for Laundry was $1.50 each. For my wife's shirts ( smaller than mine, but SAME material) is $3.50. Why is that???
Is it because a women's shirt is called a "blouse" and not a dress shirt??
Wasn't there some kind of anti gender discrimination law that passed in CA in refrence to haircuts, dry cleaning etc???
Does anyone have that infop about which law it was ?? (ie.. AB #)
This is ridiculous that they can legally charge MORE than double for the same item.

Usually a woman's blouse is dry cleaned, then ironed by hand because most blouses have darts and special cuts that can not be 'steamed' out on the equipment that they use on mens shirts...also mens shirts are laundered, and then steam pressed. They charge more for the woman's blouse because it requires more work to remove wrinkles.....time is money.

I have a something to say here.
Recently my cleaner and bunch of other cleaners in my area has been sued for unfair competition.
and I tried to find the root of this problem, and
I found out the reason is because this law about price list that was passed some time ago.
I think the law doesnt make any sense for dry cleaners.
the law states that complete price list is to be available upon request, and
it is just not possible for cleaners.
I will try to make u understand why.
Just go to the clothing mall and watch how many cleanable items are there.
there are so many. Cleaners can never come up with complete price list.
if they come up with one, its not a complete price list for sure.
additionally, u cant charge the same for pants that looks like have come out from mud after playing with furry dogs.
u cant charge the same for $3000 dress as $50 dress.
and some spots are harder to get out than another. some requires to be washed in the machine twice or three times sometimes.
and lots of alteration jobs.. they were all traditionally based on estimate. only tailer expert should look at the item and judge how much that is.
leather too. only leather expert can give the estimate.
and many cleaners dont have these expert at the premise. they send it out.
there is really no way for any cleaner to give complete price list
I am pretty sure that whoever made that complete price list rule for dry cleaner just hadnt have talked with any dry cleaning expert before he/she made that rule.
You can go to any cleaner in the united states and ask if complete price list is possible for the cleaner. They will all say no!!
Also cleaners dont charge extra for women clothes.
most likely, the reason some people say that is because of cotton women blouse is a lot more expensive than cotton mens dress shirt.
the reason is that cotton mens dress shirt is the most commonly serviced item, and it has become some kind of price competition item between cleaners over the years.
many customers also judge a cleaners price level by looking at the price of cotton mens dress shirt.
all cotton mens dress shirts are basically the same with each other.
so some robotic press tool has been developed over the years which costs close to the expensive fancy sports car.
In any case, mens shirt process is faster than any other items, so it looks like it compensate for the cheap price, but the area where my cleaners are at are too competitive, so some cleaners are offering shirts even below production cost, and its really going crazy.
another noticeable women item that is always more expensive is the women suits.
women suits usually has more complex material to make the shape and usually fully lined.
and simply women clothes has a lot more stuffs.. like pleats, sequence, beads, delicate, ruffle, ribbons,... etc.. that requires more care.
anyway, I would appreciate if anyone can help me to find where I should petition to to invalidate current price rule related to dry cleaners.

I think you're right about Men's shirts . American Cleaners has a special press to process at faster speed. Typical CA law.

ok. I found this.
http://www.surfsanta...ns_Cleaners.htm
I would like to add one more thing.
Oneday one of my customer brought like 6 of his sons cotton dress shirt.
I charged it at the same level as womans cotton blouse.
why?
because the childrens dress shirts are just too small for the robotic shirt machine.
all mens cotton dress shirt that is too small to fit the robotic shirt machine is charged at the price level of womens blouse, and thats like the common practice of all cleaners.
I am saying this practice is common to all cleaners in United States!! ( unless the cleaner do things traditional way. In that case cotton mens shirt is similar to womens blouse )
its not only the size though. collars, the shape of women cotton blouse is different, and this robotic shirt machine is super simple. it can only process one shape.
If Deputy City Attorney Adam Radinsky ever talked with any dry cleaner expert, he would never had have made such a rule.
This rule is simply outrageous, and riduculous.!!

The dry cleaner at the corner near Winco always gives me 10% off just for being me. The guy at the front counter is very nice and friendly.
I bought a coupon book for Swanson's when they were next to Quizno's (same intersection), but just after I bought it they moved out. I don't want to travel all the way to the other end of town to find a Swanson's!

So, did anyone fine the cheapest place in town? I saw Silverado mentioned a couple of times but I wear dress shirts that can be laundered and pressed. $2.50 is a bit much. I have gone to the place at South Lexington, just off Oak Ave. Parkway and they seem very high. I don't take my shirts there (don't know what they charge for them, though, but their price for slacks seems pretty high).
