Apparently, if you are looking for German-type food, it's the place to go (according to the Bee food critic). Very good review.

Some had the Spaztle and thought it was really good. I had the German Roasted Potatoes and they were excellent! Every meal was also served with Red Cabbage (which I'm not a fan of, but those that eat liked it a lot).
My dad is German and a Master Chef in both Europe and the United States and the first thing I thought of was that he would love this place and I've got to bring him here during his next visit.
The second thing I thought of... When I do visit this place with my dad it'll probably have to be when my son has something else going on... As it was mentioned above, there really is nothing for kids on the menu.
I think I may even have time to take my mom (Swedish) and my dad there this Friday - if so I'll come back and provide their comments as well. Both grew up in their respective countries and didn't come to the US until they were in their mid to late twenties...

My only complaint was the quality of the bread before the meal. It was like the pre-sliced sourdough at the supermarket.
I still want to eat there again and try other things on the menu.

they buy their bread from O'Brot, the european bakery where ettore's used to be. its all freshly made. i think its the style. we've all gotten used to italian and french chewy doughs and crisp crust. german white breads are often like what they serve at heart of europe.

With 2 sodas and a cup of coffee our bill totaled $61.50, we tipped the server, after all it wasn't her fault, and decided to NEVER come back.

What did the management say when you told them about this?
When my wife and I went there about 6 weeks ago all was good.

The first time, I split with my girlfriend a $36 platter for two (it now is $38). It came with 1/2 duck, pig leg, 2 smoked pork chops, bratwurst, and German baloney all served on top of German potato salad, German dumplings, sauerkraut, red cabbage, and roasted potatoes. It was topped with a dark gravy. The food was all cooked fork tender. The duck wasn't greasy at all and has a wonderful roasted flavor. The meal was so big, that my girlfriend and I had leftovers for lunch and dinner the next day.
We went back with some friends for dinner last Thursday. My friends ordered the wienerschnitzel and the Jaeger schnitzel. They were huge portions each served with a side. Both had spatzel on the side and it was cooked just right and full of flavor. The schnitzels were breaded lightly and cooked to be tender; each cost around $17. I ordered the pork shank for $18.50 -- I cannot recommend this dish enough. It was a humongous chunk of meat... about 6" or 7" tall and another 8" or so in diameter. There was very little fat on the meat and it, again, was fork tender. It was served with sauerkraut, a green salad, and choice of side (I had German potato salad).
My only complaints about the restaurant were that: The German potato salad was more like standard yellow potato salad rather than the hot, white German potato salad that my mom used to make. Also I noticed that the prices on some of the dishes had increased by $1 or $2 since I was last there in December.
I did not experience any problems with slow service both times I was there. In fact, the waitress comped our party three free glasses of Champagne on my second visit so that we'd want to come back!
I also found out that you can earn United Mileage Plus miles for eating there.
Overall highly recommended, but come hungry!

When my wife and I went there about 6 weeks ago all was good.
The Cook came out to talk to us and he asked me if I've ever had Sauerbraten before
and I told him "Yes" since I was born and raised in Germany.
He did apologize and offered free cake for everyone.

Thank you for doing that. Maybe the guy was getting careless and needed that kick in the butt.

Our experience wasn't quite that bad...but close. My wife had the sbraten and didn't like it all. I had Wienerschnitzel...which looked great and was plenteous...like...mega...but it was a little tough and the spatzle seemed like undercheezed dough pieces...kind of like little dumplings with now flavor...kind of dry. The salad was "neah". The soda, fine. I had wanted to try the Kirschtorte but decided that it couldn't be very good based on the other stuff. We really thought that they were extremely attentive, though. So...for service A+. For food...mmm....C. If it was inexpensive-- we MIGHT return...but we are probably in the NEVER category, too. Have you tried St. Pauli's up East of Pollock Pines. Really good. I like Cafe Vienna in West Sac...but my wife's not crazy about it... I was REALLY hoping this would be good as it's so close!
