OK, I confess, the Hillary Clinton shot was aimed directly at me, and I plead guilty. From now on, I'm gonna search high and low for flattering pics of the lovely Mrs. Clinton. Just give me time. I may need it.

OK, is that better ??

No, now your insulting me. What you think I'm dumb enough to live in happy, happy land and think that People are always pretty and nice just because they are famous?

Hello, Darthvader recognized his ugliness and put a mask on.
Hillary should too.

And Besides, your photos of Hillary were posted on a thread about Hillary. So what's the big deal?

I fail to see the problem here.

Ok... so here is my input. Although I love some of these "hijacked" posts, they are sometimes hilarious and interesting. I really believe there are people that don't reply when they really have something to offer simply for fear that somebody will pounce on them or make them feel bad. I read most of these threads and love them. Even though I don't post as much (mostly because I am at work and reading is one thing, but typing all I want to say is something else!), I feel I know a little about differant personalities, but sometimes I read some of the responses and sort of cringe (not because I am not LMAO, because... I am, but because I am slightly concerned for the person being "hijacked or "bagged on"...)

I personally really don't get offended and pretty much hang with the best of them when it comes to sarcasm and jokes, I love it. But, I also feel on here that more people could enjoy it if there was a "little" more self control. Don't get me wrong... you all "sleigh" me!!

Just trying to see both sides... If this forum stayed the same I would still LOVE it. If it changed a little I think MORE people could love it!

Merry Christmas!! (and happy almost 30th b-day to me)
bv

PS now u see why I don't post as much... I "talk" too much!

Hey everyone -

The past few months on this forum have seen an excessive amount of bizarre posts, tangents, and outright thread-jacks. I have gotten a ton of PM's about this.

It's got to stop.

comments and tangents about apes

All I'm saying is - let's get back to discussing Folsom.

John,

Are you saying my post
http://www.tomatopag...showtopic=15921
is out of line?

Are we not allowed to post non-folsom specific news stories that we think our fellow readers might be interested in? I thought the General Discussion was for those items that don't fall into the other categories and was open to any topic.

Maybe I'm just taking the thing about apes too personally because I'm the one that posted the topic about smart apes.

Looking for some guidance and feedback here.

How about when someone asks about automotive stuff? Is it inappropriate to post about auto shops not in Folsom?
I would rather be Backpacking

I really don't mind the bizarre posts, it's just the posts that are incredibly rude. Someone can post a newsworthy post, and someone else will respond like, who cares? It makes me afraid to bring up any topic for fear of the backlash. There is so much negativity on this forum lately.

And, it would be nice if there was a way to control the multiple id's. I think the folks that have more than one id stir up more trouble. JMO

Some birdwalks are pretty amusing. Some authors restrict those to a few, well-placed posts while others post silly, non-topical things on every single thread. Those get annoying very quickly, especially when one or more of those are doing a back-and-forth off-topic discussion. Even this topic is getting jacked in an argument over who said what to whom and when.

I guess to try to halt the annoying ones who want to hear themselves type, you also have to limit the others.

And Democrats in particular have a history of facilitating this obstructionism in exchange for campaign donations and votes." . . .Amanda Ripley re "Waiting for Superman" movie.

Right on, stacycam. Unfortunately, like John said awhile ago, you can't totally control immaturity. Those people know who they are, but their immaturity doesn't allow them to have any shame/embarrassment regarding their childishness. And sat is right about people like Darth who is known to say "who cares" when people post items. He'll be banned if he keeps up his act....I should know...I was banned once, and it lasted a couple years. He'll get the same thing. It's just a matter of time. Why don't the moderators have the power to ban someone for a day or two or three when they get out of line ??
I have opinions, you have opinions. We'll just call it even...is that OK ??

Man you are on a roll, or something else. This comes from a guy who posts that Folsom women are classless and posts a Poll about how annoying and rude Spicy is. Pot meet Kettle.

Awesome. You know all is right with the world when the two most over-opinionated posters here--who both joined within 30 days of each other--are going toe to toe.
We all dream of a world of sunshine and rainbows and peace. The problem is some people think this would be a great place to live, while others think it would be a great place to pillage.

I hate to say this, and I never thought I would. And I may regret saying it still, but...

It would now seem that Chad was actually some kind of stabilizing force around here.

Go figure.

Okay - the ape thing was clearly directed at me (and GeneralUrko2004, but he doesn't post here anymore) so, just so no one misunderstands, I *never* have, nor would ever, call a human an ape, any more than I would call an ape a monkey, or a monkey a human. Yes, we are all primates, but there are key biological distinctions (having or not having tails, or opposable thumbs) that... nevermind. I don't need to be warned twice. I'm just saying, I haven't called anyone here names ever.
Villiage Idiot is a largely ceremonial figurehead position. There's no real authority aside from supervising a small staff of Villiage Morons who do your administrative ...

Sorry John. Doing it again. I'll stop.

I just wanted to clear my name on that ape thing. I may be bizarre sometimes, but I've made it a point not to be cruel.

Can we exempt NGil from the bizarre posts rule? I don't want to live in a Forum without his stress relief. :-) I'm with you on the rude rule, though. On the thread jacking...I'm a little with Supermom in that I like the topics that sometimes spring off original threads and probably contribute to keeping them going. Sorry. It might help, John, if there was something really specific to help us all be on the same page about what the expectations are? I think that would help me know pretty specifically where the boundaries are? ( I kind of got what you mean from what you wrote but would be open to even more specific guidelines) I'm new to all of this so probably break a ton of rules/expectations without realizing it.

On another forum I frequent, if a thread becomes way off topic, the mod will create a new thread on the new subject. I have seen that done on this board before, but not in a while.

ngilbert, while humorous, started all this, IMO... and the problem is, everyone's trying to imitate him, because he's funny. I don't want this place to be devoid of humor, but I don't want every single post to be about wherewolves or apes. Supermom, your comments earlier in this post illustrate my point. It's just old, and you can't hear everyone's collective groans when you do it. The joke is just stale.

Threads that veer off - it's your responsibility to start a new thread (not ours). We can split stuff off a thread and move it to the other. If you enjoy the discussion that has gone off course, fine. Just start a new thread so people know what you are talking about.

Hey John,
So...the only gripe with NGil is when he goes off topic, right? Alot of times, in my opinion, his off the wall comments are the only thing that calms things down when people start going ballistic on each other. Maybe I just have a bizarre brain that likes the off beat stuff. I only like the good-natured veering... It doesn't seem like a big deal to me, but I do feel bad for you if you have to handle all of the griping or if people expect you and the mods to always be organzing things by splitting off threads. That would get old.
