Hmm. Every restaurant seems to have one person that doesn't like it, but there is a definite pattern with this one unless there is some conspiracy with people making up false stories or going in with an axe to grind looking to turn the tiniest problem into a major issue.
For every person that says they liked it, more people say they had a horrible time there.
I am going to stay away from this one for some time longer.
I guess they can't be rude to every customer and mess up every order, so there is some reasonable chance you will manage to go in and have no "incidents" or unusually negative or rude experiences at Sudwerks.
Is that good enough?

What's funny is even most of the positive posts have something bad to say. The food was "ok" or it was way too hot, etc. The place Sux, plain and simple. One guy even said they had to work out the kinks before the Grand Opening (you know, 2 months after the practice opening).....I'll be sure to be out of town for that epic occassion.

Well after a few times at the "New" Sudwerks I can say that it is NOT very good... I thought that after being shown the place opening day by the new owner, I felt like this newly remodeled place was done right...WRONG!
The new owner seemed to be a "nice guy" but one night as we were out on the town, we decided to go and enjoy the music at the Sudwerk. We were surprised that the start time for DJ Joe had changed to a later time but the DJ said that the owner wanted to start later and it might be 10 PM before they could push out the tables in the way of the dance floor...as he was explaining to us why, the owner came up to him with a very mean look and told him to help him move the tables out of the way... we could hear the owner getting mad saying he could care less about the customers and it was the food that counted, or the most important thing, and he was tired of people coming up to him and complaining. (that's how loud it was!) It wasn't the first time either because that night when we went in he was yelling at a hostess and we saw her crying...and yes in front of everybody! So much for that "nice guy" that I met! Anyway the entertainment started after the argument and I was surprised that the DJ didn't just walk out on this guy when he was yelling at him in front of the customers...The place started clapping for the DJ when he started and it was packed all night so what is this owners problem??? He is a very angry and rude man.
I laughed when the owner said it was about the food...The food was awful....on the few occasions that I have been there I have ordered: the prime rib, that now is sliced so small, it looks like it belongs on a sandwich, while the price is at or near the same... The hamburgers are unsafe as on two occasions I have had these seared on the outside and completely RAW, not rare, but RAW and still cold...that is unsafe! Yeah right, I'm going to eat that! On the same day with the raw hamburgers, 2 salads that were ordered were full of dirt, as in the lettuce was not washed properly and it was still in our salads...after complaining, the customers next to us said they had the same problem....What is up with that??? Oh and the wait for your Raw hamburger is at least an hour while you wash the dirt out of your mouth!
We have enjoyed the former Cliff House for years and enjoyed the dj music as well. We heard that the owner wanted a younger crowd...great, just what we need in Folsom another kiddie bar! We are in our 40's and we're in favor of the updating of the place but after the totally outrageous behavior of that owner and the horrible food, I am not impressed... That was the only place where you weren't tripping over young drunk kids like at the Powerehouse Pub where you wear your drink more than get to drink it... is this where this place is going??? This isn't the Davis Sudwerks...this guy doesn't get it...you would think a 35+ crowd would have a little more money to spend than a younger group...the proof is that the bar is always packed on the weekends...

BTW: I am wondering why some of the people that complain here about the "old people" and the music..why not just go somewhere else? If the place is packed and your are complaining, it sounds more like the complainers are in the minority...it isn't worth fixing what is not broken... Owner: work on your food and anger management please!

Well if this owner wants to get a younger crowd in there... he's not going to be successful until he gets a band or something in there...
The place was pretty full Saturday night there... I hadn't been there for about 6 months but used to be a "regular" there... I asked one of the bar tenders "Gabe" what the deal was with the white shirt and ties... ? he just shrugged...
I think the new owner really is trying too hard to change what really just needed to be cleaned up... The food at the Cliff House was alwasy decent.. not great but decent and now it seems the food service is crappy, the portions are smaller and the prices a little higher... the only reason he's doing as well as he is now is because of the Thursday through Saturday crowd that packs in the 40+ crowd... it's the only place in entire area that does consistantly...
The owner doesn't know a good thing when it's biting him in the butt... I hope he wakes up...

I hope he wakes up too but it sounds like he's an arrogant arse. I'm beginning to think maybe he's just a guy with too much money and he took a concept from the Davis restaurant but has no clue how to execute it properly.
Hearing about him yelling at employees and the DJ's just seems to tell me this guy has zero clue about how to treat customers and employees. A good owner knows how to motivitate his employees - a crappy owner just screams and yells
This is the difference between a great place like Manderes and this so so place Sudwerks... the guys at Manderes know how to treat people and they know how to make good food
If the owner of Sudwerks wants to get people in there - a younger crowd - then the way to do it is with great service and great food - not a DJ playing at 10pm and not by disrespecing employees and customers
and another thing, it sounds like this giant arse just doesn't get it - customer service and LISTENING to customer complaints on where to improve is extremely important - I've sent in several emails about the complaints that have been voiced, and I have not received one single reply. This guy just doesn't seem to care...otherwise he's take the complaints and work to improve and fix those problems.
Very dissapointing to hear that this guy is yelling at empolyees in front of customers like that - very tacking with no class and that is piss poor respect for customers

After having read so many bad reviews about Sudwerks over the past few weeks I was very hesitant about trying the place.
But then I read John's review yesterday and figured I really need to check this place out.
Went there for lunch today with two other friends.
The place really looks nice, I don't know what the hoopla was about the paint complaints?? but it looked perfectly fine to me, I thought it was very nice inside and outside
We sat outside on the patio and enjoyed the views.
The service was very prompt and we were served our drinks and placed our order in a very reasonable amount of time
They also had all the beer taps working very well - tried the Hefeweisen - very good stuff!
Since John mentioned the burger was the best he's had, I gave that a try and ordered their "gourmet" cheeseburger with chedder and fries.
John was right about the buns, there's something about them that was very very good, nice and fresh and they had this flavor that tasted great. The burger was good sized and it came with the usual toppings of tomato, red onion and lettuce.
It was a good burger, the only thing I didn't like about it was that it was well done and I was surprised they didn't ask how we wanted them cooked - I usually prefer my burgers to be cooked medium, not well.
The prices were good, 3 people - 2 burgers, 1 soup and salad and two beers, $39 bucks, not bad.
The ambience was great
The service was very good
and the food was good, not great but good - I really need to try some of their entree's to get a better take on this place
One thing I did see a lot... the older crowd really likes that place... it was filled up mostly with blue hairs but they all seemed to be enjoying themselve. I found that sorta odd because the place looks more like a brew pub then a denny's but hey age doesn't matter, we all like good food
All in all I'd say that place must have turned around since they opened and fixed a lot of their original problems.
I'll be going back to try more in the future.

I have to agree that the retaurant is very good! I went there for lunch last week and had a great meal. I had the mushroom burger and it was really, really good! Plus our service was great. We sat down and she brought us our drinks just a few minutes later. She was extremely nice and took our order promptly. We only have an hour lunch. We got everything on time, plus it was tasty.
As a younger resident of Folsom it is a very fair priced restaurant and much more modern then the Cliff House. I would definitely go back to bring friends and just drink some beers. I hope you all will give it a chance.

Bands would be great, just not there...Everytime we went there when there were bands they took up more room than the customers. While it looked like it was packed it was more like the band and their equipment. We were against the back wall and they took up the view. Can you imagine the new owner setting it up in the first place?? He'd probably want the guitar player standing on the fireplace and the drummer in the entryway greating customers, and the singer in the bathroom with the bass player behind the bar pouring drinks betwen songs or parking cars outside...lol
I said that about parking cars because I saw the owner trying to show the valet parking guys how to do their job too what a nut! can you say OCD?...
Went last week on thurs and he was mad at the DJ again because he started 5 or 10 minutes.... EARLY! So at 9:20 he started....????? You think he killed the new owners dog by the way he acted and everyone wanted him to start so he did and here this guy comes red faced and all and it is getting comical because this guy is such an arse and people kind of expect it from him now....and yes he was yelling in front of the customers again...cutting in front of a customer singing on that night...( sorry can't spell kareok...what-ever)...the man is in serious need of attention...
Hey work on your food guy...... I got another seared mushroom burger with the inside still cold and raw! YUCK! Time for me to find another place to eat!

Don't go to Sudwerks on a hot day! Went there Friday (6/20) with some friends around 4pm. We sat sweating and fanning ourselves, repeatedly asking for the A/C to be turned up. Cold beers were warm before you could drink them. Speaking of beer - why is it that they NEVER have more than one IPA (and sometimes NO IPAs) out of their three or four available? And the food - mediocre at best. Place is loud even when only half full. Not any enjoyable time. Tried it once - decided to give them a "second chance" - won't be going back for thirds!

Aww cmon, some doofus here said "just wait until the bugs are worked out." Ya know, when they have their Grand Opening....4 months after they've been open. I'm glad everybody has the same crappy experiences there that I had. The place should be condemed.

I'm just waiting on a new thread...
"What would YOU like to see at the OLD Cliff House and Sudwerk location?"
Surely this place is not going to last. It's too bad too. It has a lot of potential, so it must be a management issue. The location has already proven to be fine.

It might last quite a while. Cliff House lasted for years after they went downhill because of the location and this place will also draw in more people who are just going there to get alcohol at the bar and aren't really paying attention to anything else.
Too bad Scott's Seafood wasn't able to move over there.
Maybe they will get better in a few more weeks.
How many weeks should it take a new restaurant to get up to speed?
