Library - Bid to Block Construstion FAILS

As I remember, some statements were that the park library site would cause the end of the gazebo and concerts in the park, the end of the small train, the zoo, events, fireworks, trees and grass, etc.
Were these statements untrue?
What is the complaint now?
Is Folsom going to get a library at the chosen site or not?

A comment about petition gathering - I used to be of a mind that I would sign just about any petition thinking that was a way to get things changed. However, now I rarely sign petitions because of the costs to the local governments, and primarily because we have our elected officials to do our bidding. If we don't like who we've elected, then we need to replace them, but putting petition after petition up for popular vote is self-defeating.
Keep in mind, too, that you won't have an elected official in place within whom you will agree 100% of the time. You'll be lucky if it's 50% of the time in reality.
Again, Linda, you've done a great job on the library issue, and I do believe we all need to come together and get this moving to accomplish the building of the library.

We now find out that there is other city park land that could possibly have been used for a new library. That was not the only possible park site that could have been used.
I guess most or all of the parks are owned by the city so?????
Funny hu????

but why look at that when u can build on an existing park
they are going to take out trees - which are fully grown
and put in - what was it 120 trees - will we ever see them grown or as shade in our life time and how many of these will die -and it was not said what type of tree -
and music in the park will have to be moved for over a year - my bet is that it will never return to the park
and the animals at the zoo will only be inconvienced for a couple of days - they are use to construction - after all there have been improvements in the zoo
As Save the Park has said all along - there are too many questions - and they are unanswered
but we have succeed in our goal to make the public aware ....
and registered or not 3,500 signed
and many others from surrounding areas expressed their concern

Anyone out there have any information on the location and pros/cons of the other sites? I would imagine the Save the Park proponents would feel ANY site has to be better (which I respectfully disagree with), but I'd like to hear some more information on these other sites.
Camay - are you referring to the site down by Folsom High School? If it's the one I'm thinking of, I'm not sure that's really a good location for the library - tucked back behind that old quarry, at the far south end of the city. Not terribly convenient for folks on the north side of town. Just my opinion.

| they don't all have business experience, and I couldn't find any examples of any of them actually starting and running a business (except Andy Morin who owns a restaurant with his brother). If you're going to be suspisious of anything, be so of their past in government service or the law, not the fact that they may be "businessmen". |
Andy owns a business. Steve owns a business. Kerri owns a business. Jeff is general counsel (top attorney guy) for a business. Eric works for a large business.
Are these not businessmen (and one businesslady)? Doesn't show they're evil.

The discussion should be over as there is not anything that anyone can do now about the poor situation that we are left with , OR IS THERE ? I bet the city will start quickly to mitigate any further efforts to change the venue or scope , which is too bad they make such poor decisions for the residents of this city.

| Waterbaby - time to suck it up and accept that the library is going to be built in the park. Part of me wished that your petition drive would have been successful - because I believe an overwhelming majority of people would have voted to build the library their. Then you would have accepted the decision of the people. 3 years from now you can join me in the park saying what a beautiful library that we have that serves to draw more people to enjoy this wonderful area of town.... |
Sorry bud - but it ain't over till the fat lady sings
and there is way too much that smells like a skunk
they don't even have the funding lined up nor have they applied for grants or bonds - so where is the money coming from
and something will have to freeze over before I will ever step into that place - I will drive to the Auburn library first
and if u really think that the friends of the library would win then why did they try so much harrassment and "untruths"
it was interesting listening to Earl Kipp - who is a veteran and doesn't like veterans -
how do u build a library without "community support"
certainly not with a community that is divided
I was just reading campaign information from when Andy ran for cc
"City Hall Just Won't Listen!
Steve Miklos called residents who disagree with him 'a handful of malcontents'. He doesn't think voters can be trusted to decide on ....." "...we need council members who will govern openly..."
It would appear that this is a long standing situation with the council of Folsom.... this web site was www.folsomreport.com/
interesting....

From what I heard he seemed to indicate that this might not be a done deal and things could still change. Did I hear him right or was I dreaming ???
Andy, do you care to comment ???

The main library design for the planned main library site was down sized in size and cost from the CA state standards for a main library for a city Folsom's size.
The undeveloped park lands that Ms. Howell has found at this late date are either not centrally located or do not have schools within a set distance of them which is also a CA state library standard. The size of these undeveloped park lands may or may not be of a size adequate for a library building and parking. Look for yourself in the public records.
The "untruths" or misinformation that has been spread is ----the small train would be gone, the gazebo and Friday night concerts would be gone, the parking for the zoo and rodeo would be gone, the trees all would be gone, etc. etc. etc.
The Friends of the Folsom Library have worked for 11 years to support the existing library with fund raisers and raise money for a new library building. They have NOT harrassed ANYONE or told any "untruths". They offered flyers which stated 10 points of rebuttal to the lies being told by SOME of the petitioners. Those distributing those flyers were told by more than one signature gatherer that he/she was "being paid". The petitioners deny that.
The "community" IS IN full SUPPORT OF THE LIBRARY. Only a few would deny the whole community of Folsom the much needed library after the struggle since 1993. Those few put one old softball field out of 40 playing fields in Folsom ahead of our city having a library.
Anyone so small minded and mean as to say Earl Kipp is against veterans has a serious observation problem. He is one who strongly promoted the memorial FOR ALL VETERANS in Folsom. He and Ernie Sheldon as well as sthe Ad Hoc committee are making sure that memorial happens----FOR ALL VETS!
The struggle to find a site and get a library has been on the Folsom CC agendas since 1993. Those of us who have struggled and worked toward this end resent the small closed minds who belittle those efforts of 11 years.
People come from all surrounding communities to take advantage of what all our present pathetic little library has to offer. If some small minds don't want to use the Folsom library that is fine. It makes one more space for those who do.
Can you hear the fat lady singing????? Folsom does!!!!
