they should just spend the money on 2 ppl to drive around town and replace broken heads on city landscaping. Cheaper. More effective. Less intrusive. Better water savings.

The school district could use some help on fixing broken sprinklers, too, but with all the budget cuts at the city and schools it seems things like that will only get worse instead of better.

I've tried reporting things like that, but they don't seem to get fixed.

Residents can schedule a free Water Wise house call or report water waste problems by calling 355-7252

I just called my neighbors in....

I was out on a walk at 6am and their sprinklers were on making a foot wide river in the gutter - its' now 10:30 - 4.5 hours later and their sprinklers ARE STILL ON!

They were home earlier when I got back from the walk at 7 but they're gone now

I called that number and left a message with their address, hopefully someone from the city water dept will come out and leave them a note or something - that water is going to be running all day long

I remember the drought days of San Jose, too. We used to keep buckets in the bathroom to catch the cold shower water while waiting for it to warm up. The water in the buckets were used to flush the toilet or water plants.

Other water-saving techniques common during the drought:

Took shorter showers.
Toilets were flushed every other pee.
Bathroom tap water was turned off while brushing teeth and shaving.
Kitchen tap water was similarly turned off when not needed (not necessary to let it run while scrubbing a pot).
Put buckets in the back yard to catch rain water and used that to water indoor plants.
Convert to low flow toilets and shower heads.

Are those neighbors on your street? Another advantage of Neighborhood Watch is that we all have each other's work and cell phone numbers so we can contact one another as needed during the day.

yep, they're just a few houses down - the very first thing I did was try to get their phone number from a few of the neighbors - no luck, nobody has it

I wish I did have their number so I could call him - I'm sure he'd come back to his house and fix that asap if he was aware of it - although I'm really surprised nobody at that house noticed the water before they left for work - strange....

I had contemplated going into their side yard and shutting off their sprinklers manually but I that'd be trespassing...

I understand the need to conserve, but the way that reads I wouldn't be allowed to hand water potted plants every day. Am I reading that wrong? I have plants in pots that will die if they aren't watered every day in 100-plus degree weather. I could move some of them to shade and maybe stretch it to every other day, but some are too heavy to be moved.

I am sure that watering pots daily when it is hot would not be a problem. Not much option and they do not use much water.

Another great  day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

I doubt they would mind if you shut it off ( as long as it is in the front yard) and then leave a note so they know - You know - doing for the greater good of mankind .... rolleyes.gif

Shut the main off to the house, it's probably near the front door in the bushes someplace.

Gee they are really on top of things aren't they? Put the restrictions in place near the start of the rainy season. Didn't they think about this in, say June, when they knew it would be hot and water usage would go up for the next 2-3 months?

This has been an issue for awhile. Earlier they called for a 10% cutback. Then there were reports of Folsom's relatively high water usage, so I guess they decided to make a better effort.

Davburr, maybe you can reach the main valve? We went on vacation (lived in the bay area) for a week once and the irrigation system malfunctioned. It was on for a couple of days before a neighbor shut off the main water valve. WOW, that was quite a water bill!!
