You all are so helpful about appliance recommendations. I need kitchen ventilation for a pro-style range in my kitchen. Is there anyone that has a vent hood brand they are really happy with? We are looking for a quiet one that still does the job in a stainless steel style with at least 600 cfm.
Sorry, EDF, about the hijack. I can't help you out with advice because my dishwasher sucks, too. It's really old though and will be replaced soon anyway.

I second the Bosch. We had replaced our GE about 2 years ago now. Love it. Quiet, ours has a red light that shines on the floor when running. If it wern't for that I would open it when running. Dishes come out clean. I don't rinse, just remove food and put them in. Worth the $ in my opinion.

ditto. the light is the ONLY way to know it's on.
seriously folks, this dishwasher is INSANE in its engineering, quality and cleaning ability. You will BE BLOWN AWAY by it.
and this dishes come out sanitized, HOT and like new.

When we built our house we compared the Bosch and the best Kenmore and went with the Kenmore. It's been great, and we do overload it and it's also very quiet. Last week my mom opened ours by mistake during the cycle.
For the cooktop ventilation question, we have a Bosch downdraft for our island cooktop. It's only 2" x 30" on the countertop. Press a button on the top and a motor raises it up about 10", ready to do it's thing. It's slick.

Kenmore is KitchenAid for anyone wanting to know the branded version.

We put in a GE Profile stainless steel vent hood, that's been nice, the fan is quiet and has 3 settings and the lights have 2 settings. Bought it at Home Depot and installed it ourselves

Thanks, Davburr. I really like the look of the GE ones. It's hard to know how loud they'll be. Even if you find a display one you can turn on they sound loud because they're not vented the way it would be in your home.

EDF might like how water inefficient that is, but too much labor on his part I suspect.
What model Maytag is this? I don't use Jetdry - no need...

I don't know what model it is...
when I got this house the former owner had replace the dishwasher and the stove/microwave... so it's white.. but probably built like in 2002 or 2003... I don't have the manual on it...
I did take some advice and look at where the water comes in and out... and I did get some "scungeelee" out of it... so maybe next time it'll be better...
and yes I do sometimes fill that sucker up and it used to work just fine...
but lately I've been washing them down.. then putting them in dishwasher and still get that "gleasy" look on some of the glasses and some sand in the coffee cups... it's beginning to piss me off.. and that's not a good thing...
