Exactly! that's the #1 reason I don't believe in software piracy -and to the pirate/thieves out there, you're bogging down the net with all your freakin bit torrent downloads, knock it off already - or quit complaining about company's like comcast throttling usage, its entirely because of these pirate people who are downloading terabytes of stolen software and pirated movies and music that the networks are clogged and why telecom companies are now considering even more throttling - knock it the eff off already and man up and buy the software and media you are using folks!

DO THE RIGHT THING! It's called ethics people, everyone needs to have some.

P.S. I'm not 100% innocent, I used to pirate a few wares here and there too - about 10 years ago when I didn't know any better about how it messes up software development, music production etc..

once again... DO THE RIGHT THING and pay for ALL your software, music and movies... you don't do your job for free so don't expect software developers, movie producers and music bands to do their work for free by having you stealing their hard work

this has been a public service announcement, I'll step off my soap box now...

I agree with you in principle and my pirating days are long over since the demise of the original Napster, especially with the advent of open source software and streaming media where you can find almost any music, TV, and quite a few legitimate movies.

However my experience working with people in the entertainment industry (actors, musicians, producers, and various other celebs) has shown me that they tend to be some of the worst when it comes to downloading pirated content. I won't name names, but I am sure you would be familiar with them. The hypocrisy was kind of amusing...

On the lighter side, their preferred method of pirating was Limewire, which anyone familiar with the program knows that using it is an invitation to install spyware and virus's. So in the end they got their free music, but had to pay me to get their computers fixed.

It'd be great if I only had to buy the software I was using. But no - if I buy any given product it tries to install three others (including Internet Explorer, out of habit). In order to "optimize" it scans and reports to the Mothership the entire contents and composition of my computer, bank balances and account numbers, credit score, driver's license and passport numbers. It grinds along with a dozen things running in the background I couldn't possibly need.

I've come to expect free software to be fast, simple, powerful, and raw, and only to do what it's for, and nothing else. I've come to expect paid-for software to be bloated with features I don't use yet have been forced to pay for to get the ones I do. I expect it to connect to the Internet whether I want it to or not, for purposes unknown but presumably invasive. I expect it to ask me again every week or two after seven years of "no" whether I want to remove unused icons from my desktop. I expect the help files to be unhelpful and emcee'd by a talking dog. I expect everything to be animated for no reason. Is this what you're spending 60 hours a week on?
