What worries me is that now these shopping centers are going to have these empty buildings. How long has it taken for anything to replace Ralph's? And now we have to fill the spaces left by Black Angus and Linens n Things in the same parking lot? I just hope that it doesn't further hurt the center.

Also, I was on my way to Arden Fair last weekend, and noticed that both Macaroni Grill and Tahoe Joe's had closed their door. Times are tough even for chains.

That's my concerns too - we already have a ton of empty commercial and office buildings around town - now there's going to be even more with the depature of Mervyns and now Black Angus

makes me wonder how the new mall is going to survive that's going up now?

and as for Black Angus, I've only been once in my entire life - it was ok, but I know a lot of other folks that really liked the place

even though it wasn't one of my fav places, I still think its sad to see so many big business' going under like that - its a bad sign of the times no matter how its looked at and no matter how many people disliked the place

makes you wonder who's next?

This is not a surprise, folks.

We're in a full-fledged recession...no matter how you want to define it.
I have opinions, you have opinions. We'll just call it even...is that OK ??

Maybe people like me are sick of supporting chains that offer tans-fat riddled dishes with high carb counts and high calorie count...If a restaurant offered quality organic appetizing food with an actual vegetable not drenched in oil or butter, maybe the restaurant would suceed...ALL of the restaurants in Folsom just offer fat, sugar, and little nutritional value.....LaBou is the only place I can think that has a decent lunch. Try to go to Applebee's, Mimi's or B.J.'s for something nutritionally dense and all you get is huge portions with lots of fat....Also, it makes you wonder how a steak house can offer a steak and lobster dinner for $20 bucks? LOOK where your food comes from..DID anyone see OPRAH? It makes u not want to eat any pork after seeing the pigs not even being able to turn around to get the flies off of them....

Americans, don't just come in one color or race.

I prefer Outback Steakhouse, Ruth's Chris or Morton's.

Bon Appétit!

All of which we do not have here in Folsom, and must drive across town to eat at. I can't say I was a big Black Angus fan but there are not a lot of good steak house options here in Folsom to begin with.

I think its safe to say ALL restaurants in the area are hurting. Just last weekend my mailbox was filled with numerous 2 for 1 or % off discount coupons from restaurants that typically hadn't been offering them in the past

Joe's Steak @ Tahoe Joes is pretty good. I would eat at Tahoe Joes before I would ever eat at BA

Not surprised. I could talk to 100 people and 99 would say they never ate there.

I agree, the place was waaay overrated. With any luck, it'll make room for something better.

But by far the best answer was from asbestoshills! It's so, so true! Stop it with the HUGE portions full of trans fats, high carbs and calories and HIGH prices.

Offer REAL high quality food, with reasonable portions at reasonable prices and you too may just stay in business! You can fool 1 out of a 100, but that won't keep you in business!

I also agree with LaBou. It's not cheap, but reasonably decent real food at semi-reasonable prices compared to Mimi's (that place is just gross), BJ's, Applebees, Chili's, Ruby Tuesday's, Olive Garden, and Macaroni Grill.

I'd love to go to La Bou but their hours don't ever seem to match up with the times I think of eating there.

Very disappointing to see another business go under, especially with so much new retail already sitting empty and more being built.

In times of economic difficulty, any marginal businesses arent going to make it.

I'd been having lunch with my dad and my son at Black Angus on their 5.99/6.99 lunch special deals. At regular lunch time we hardly saw anyone else in the place.

Last meal I had there we were served rib eyes that had maybe 4-5 small bites of meat among the huge mass of fat. Absolutely the worst piece of beef I've ever seen, let alone been served in a restaurant. It shouldnt have been bought, the cutter should have tossed it, the cook should have felt bad about cooking it, and if it went that far, the server shouldnt have brought it out to the table.

Systemic failure to produce a quality product.

Big bummer. Black Angus was the first restaurant I ate in when I was moving to California. We were somewhere on Route 80 with the truck when we decided to stop for the night and ate there, along with consuming several "square cow coolers". I had a bit of nostalgia for the place.

As far as the huge portions, thats simple. Most restaurants have a lot of their cost in the rent, labor and other fixed costs...not in the cost of some potatoes, salad or whatever else contributes to the huge portion sizes. So economically you're best off producing a WOW plate of food and adding a few dollars than giving someone something they can actually eat for $5.

Exactly right.

Their WOW strategy FAILED. Maybe if they served quality food at semi-reasonable prices like LaBou, they too would have a restaurant full of people and SUCCEED.

They were using a 20yr old strategy (big portions of low quality food with high prices) which has increasingly been out of favor. They did not adapt.

As for the economics, how do you explain very expensive restaurants in some of the most expensive cities in America that serve small portions and are still around?
