Considering the source, I'd say that's a ringing endorsement for Jeff!

Just for your edification, Granito'e had their (soft opening) last night, Some friends of mine who were on their way to BSB stopped in to check it out. They said the bar looked nice and it was well decorated. From the menu they believe that the entres are served 'Ala Carte, I can't be sure.. but i will check it out. You might want to see for yourselves.

Do you know when the general opening is for the public though?

Soft opening usually means open to the public, but not had their 'grand opening'. A good time to try it and get an idea of the place, but don't hold them 100% to service and experience.

They were in Trader Joe's Saturday night buying extra produce, so the opening must have been better than expected.

That's nice. I laugh when I think of all the times I've been told by a waiter "sorry, we're out of such-and-such", especially when there is a supermarket in the same darn complex! It's baffling.

Okay, well I went in today to give the place a try. It was about 12:30 this afternoon and I was the only person in the joint, not a problen as far as I am concerned as they are very new. I can be a critical judge of good Italian food as well as my bride Leenda whom is half Italian and was raised in San Francisco. I liked the interior decoration, ambiance and music. I was fortunate to meet the owner Daniel Seifried as well as the Sous Chef Peter Lillington while I was there. My basic idea of Italian food is the sauces of the motherland, in this case marinara or meat sauces.
The lunch prices are Very reasonable and vary from soups, salads, pasta and polenta dishes as well as sandwiches. I had the very basic spaghetti and meat sauce $8.95 with the 2 meatballs for and extra $2.00, I ordered for my bride a to go dish of Eggplant Parmesan with a tuscan salad. I can say that the meal I ate was, well good, but not anything you can't get elsewhere in town or at home for that matter. My brides eggplant Parmesan, however was lackluster in it's marinara sauce, quite bland as stated by her.
Their dinner menu consists of both chicken and veal dishes IE: chicken/veal Parmesan, same with a marsala dish, scaloppini, picata. The pricing is $4.00 more for the veal over the chicken dishes. They also feature steaks, chops and seafood dishes. I would also like to mention that for those of you with little crumb crunchers they have a thoughtful little persons menu available.
As far as my review goes, I will abstain from any service issues that I may have encountered during my brief visit, due to the fact that it had NO bearing on the quality of the food whatsoever. So if I may suggest go out and give them a try, the subject of food is very personal and are of an individual nature. Ones man Hash is anothers man Filet.... Enjoy....

P.S. Wine and Beer only... small bar about 5 or 6 stools. I believe the wines by the glass are on the medium high side... just my opinion

At $10.95 for spag and 2 meatballs? That plate costs them like a $1.10. We are in a recession you know.

i know it's easy to overlook, but that cost is purely for product, when pricing a dish you need to include labor, electricity, gas, and rent.

most restaurants run below a 30% margin

Well Darthvader, I am glad to know that I am not the only to observe what I have seen, this is totally out of line, oh and by the way, I want folks to know that I did not discuss the service issues I had during my visit as to be fair to a newly opened (Pasta Joint) My thinking is that if you have operated a viable restaurant in Granite Bay for some years , you would have the wherewithal to open a new location and be off and running. I will not proceed any further with my rants, but I encourage folks to be their own judges. everyone has their own individual tastes and expense accounts... I just had to throw that in... hehe

I had a similar experience (x2) when Dudwerks opened up. I haven't been back. A place only gets so many chances no matter how hard we should try and support local businesses.
