It may have seemed semi rural when you bought since it was so bare and nothing much else had been built yet.
Where you given assurances that the area was planned to remain semi-rural for the long term?

Perhaps instead of the park you'd prefer the low income housing? biggrin.gif

Nah. We were told it would be all SFHs. Which it is ... except for this proposed park.

Yes, actually, I would. Do you think you can arrange a swap? biggrin.gif

My backyard is the park in ER and I love it. In fact I sought out living right nest to it. If you have kids why don't you want to be within walking distance to the park? Soccer season started last Saturday and I get to wake up to the sweet music of children playing. During baseball season the crack of the bat wakes me up on early am practices. We have the lighted ballfield too and it really isn't a nuisance at all.

Maybe you can work on things like the blaring PA system or parking. The more parks and open space the better. JMHO

I'll meet you at the park! Don't you remember doing that as a kid.

apeman - The children and the playing are not the problem - it's the traffic, inadequate parking and the PA systems that are the largest part of the problem.

Actually, in my case, it's the lights, PA systems, and the crowd noise that's the largest part of the problem.

There is no direct access between the park and where I live, so traffic is a non-issue. Similarly, there's no easy way to use the park. Even though it's only a few blocks by air, it's about a 3-mile trip, one-way, by car or by foot.

Kanda - Good luck - you have my sympathies - These large sportsplexes in the middle of neighborhoods (often which start under the guise of a neighborhood parK) do present challenges to quality of life for a residential neighborhood.

Kanda - Also remember that they are attractive nuisances for neighborhood crime, juveniles, etc. Something to keep in mind and to watch out for. We have lots of "activity" after dark in Livermore Park.

Great. banghead.gif

Actually, I'd hope that the fact there is no direct access between the park and my neighborhood would help there. But I agree, that, too, is a problem.

I hope to attend the next public meeting on this (planned for later this month). Perhaps I'll learn something that will alleviate my fears (doubtful).

Thanks, parklady, for your sympathies. smile.gif

Hi-

I am a resident of the Promontory. Before you run me out of here, hear me out.
I lived in Folsom for 12 years before moving to the Promontory 1 1/2 years ago. We outgrew our home in Folsom when our 3rd daughter was born and we needed more space. Anyway, I still work in Folsom for a small company that started in Folsom and one of my daughters still plays soccer in the Folsom rec. league. My point is that I still have roots in Folsom and spend a large portion of each day in Folsom.

Now, regarding the Promontory park, there is a lot of misinformation being passed around and some pretty shady decisions being made by the EDH CSD. My wife and I did our homework before purchasing our home as did most of our new neighbors. We knew a park was being built in our neighborhood and we welcomed it. In fact, there are supposed to be 3 parks in the Promontory. However, the description of the main park (the one in question) in our disclosures do not match the park that the EDH CSD is trying to build. They have doubled the size of the park and reclassified it as a Community Park instead of a Neighborhood Park. It went from a park intended for Promontory residents and youth sports to one intended for all of El Dorado Hills and youth and adult sports every night until 10:00pm. We also lost one of our smaller neighborhood park sites. Now we've learned that an EDH CSD board member is building 10 custom homes on this site. Like I said, there are some shady things going on.

Whether you like it or not, most of you living in ER will be affected by this park. When I drive through ER from Broadstone shopping center to the E. Natoma entrance to ER, I can see the proposed park site at all times. That means the lights and the sound will fill the entire valley where the Promontory and ER sit. Also, access to the park off the new Sophia/Iron Point extension will only have connections into Folsom and not EDH. That means traffic to this regional sports complex will flow through Folsom and ER as well.

If you would like to learn more, you can visit the new Promontory neighborhood website, my blog on the park, and the EDH CSD website.

Thanks

See a preview of the Promontory Park here. The EDH CSD is modeling the Promontory Park after the Playfields Park in Davis. There is a short video of the Playfields Park in-use at night on this page.

The opposition efforts are building up. The new park will impact ER residents since the lights will be 70 feet tall. sad.gif

Please see www.ThePromontory.Net for all sorts of details.

Childrens parks are great- I am all for them. The EDH CSD is building a sports complex for ADULTS. How many or your children play and practice sports after dark...maybe little league winter ball which my child participated in for 4 years at Mann park in Folsom.

Do we really need ADULT soccor leagues playing everynight to pad the pockets of an out of town Community Services District? The light and sound pollution will be seen throught Folsom.
