Funny story.... a guy I know (I promise this isn't me) was stopped in Folsom at a DUI check-point a couple years ago. He REEKED of beer and of course had to do a field sobriety test, but eventually they had to let him go. The thing is, he was a bartender and had spilled beer all over himself at work, and his pants were still a little wet from it (hadn't drunk a drop, fortunately for him). It took a while for the cops to buy his story, but it was the only thing that could reconcile both the smell and his complete sobriety.

That was my thought....20 suspended licenses and probably no insurance as well.

Um, the stop was in Folsom, and people were headed towards Folsom, probably to their homes.
"Is that your bike? It sure looks fast."

How do they decide who to check? I drove by hoping to get stopped because I hadn't experienced the experience but we just drove right on through.
I think they are used to knowing what to look for. The scared or nervous looking get stopped. I've encountered a couple of checkpoints and have always been flagged to keep on going.

Don't quote me on this, but I believe they legally have to have a formula (like one every 5 cars) so they can't be accused of profiling..... maybe someone in LEO can clarify this.

LEO
is that Low Earth orbit?
I know, you meant Law Enforcement Organization, I've just never seen that acronym used for them, but being in the electronics industry, I'm well aware of LEO satellites.

Check out the video:
It was a really well-organized operation.
Once they were set up, every vehicle was checked.
They check 4 to 6 at a time.
Then those 4 to 6 are waved through and the next one is number 1
and they check the next 4 to 6, depending on how many officers are available.
You can see that in the video.
If someone can't produce a license, they are sent over to another area for checking (in this case a strip mall.
The checkpoint was outbound from Folsom, towards Orangevale, not into Folsom.
The police are always very courteous - I like working with them - and most people were pleased to see them doing this.
I meant to time a typical holdup time, but I forgot. I doubt it would have been more than 2-3 minutes. It looked like there were 20-25 cars in line at any time.
There is no excuse for drinking and driving, unless you have one drink with your meal and it doesn't affect you. I never drink alcohol and drive, because one glass of wine and my head spins. (I know you think that is all the time)

....which is why it makes your head spin
