That may be true, but at the same token, most folks are not truly educated enough about how much fat, calories, and sodium a specific food item has. If they research a litlle bit, maybe, just maybe, they can make healthier choices or reduce the junk by 35-50%. That reduction may save their lives in the long run and the habits will preserve to the future generations.

It could be wishful thinking on my parth though, but we are spending billions of $$ in ER visits for PREVENTABLE diseases . Some that $$ is going to FREE care for folks that do not have health insurance, so the taxpayers are footing the bill.

I don't think people think about what they eat (she says as she shovels down mac-n-cheese for lunch) and if they knew the totals, a few people would order differently.

I don't like to be judgmental. Lord knows I struggle with my weight. But, setting aside the health issues for a moment, I was always curious how people can afford the food it takes to keep on that much weight. Groceries aren't cheap. I see these stories of people that weigh so much that they are housebound and obviously can't hold a job, and I have to wonder not only who brings them the food, but how do they afford the grocery bill?

I'm thinking it's like any addict. It doesn't matter how you get it; you will. Beg, borrow or steal. Obesity is an addiction and harder to leave than drugs because of the availability and the fact that you have to have food to live. It's a complicated issue because it involves genetics, psychological issues, and glutteny. If you can't solve the insulin resistance part, the psychological condition behind the obesity and the over indulgence part, you can't cure the addict. That's why Oprah with all of her money can't lose weight. It's not about not having the education; it's about the issue behind the weight. Also, because there is so much fast food available people tend to chose the easy way to feed themselves. However, what people don't necessarily realize is the fat and calories of the contents until it's too late. I have seen people who start eating out 4-5 times a week b/c of work and before you know it they are 4 sizes bigger than they were. They aren't eating huge portions, but the restaurant food is so full of salt and fat that the weight is very easy to put on.
Americans, don't just come in one color or race.

Pffft - that has nothing on:

Sausage Fatty
A giant Jimmy Dean Maple Sausage filled with bacon, cream cheese, mushrooms, jalapeņos and Colby cheese.

Bacon Wrapped Twinkie Stonehenge

Snack Pizza Bomb
Pizza topped with french fries, sliced corn dogs, popcorn chicken and Doritos.

Bacon Weave Roll With Cheese

The Porkgasm
Bacon strips, bacon sausage, ham sausage, ham slices, smoked pork sausage and roasted pork belly surrounded by ground sausage shaped into a pig, wrapped in bacon and roasted. Garnished with chili ears and tail.

Meat Cake
Meatloaf with potatoes and ketchup for icing.

Taco Town Taco
Saturday Night Live-inspired: crunchy beef taco with nacho cheese, lettuce, tomato and southwestern sauce wrapped in a soft flour tortilla with a layer of refried beans in between, then wrapped in a corn tortilla with a layer of Monterey Jack cheese in a deep fried gordita shell with guacamole sauce baked in a corn husk topped with pico de gallo, wrapped in a crepe, filled with egg, griere cheese, sausage and portobello mushrooms, all wrapped in a chicago-style deep dish pizza wrapped in a blueberry pancake and finally deep fried with spicy vegetarian chili dipping sauce.

and best of all

The 30,000 Calorie Sandwich
Sandwich filled with ground beef, bacon, corn dogs, ham, pastrami, roast beef, bratwurst, braunschweiger and turkey, topped with fried mushrooms, onion rings, swiss/provolone/cheddar/feta/parmesan cheeses, lettuce and butter on a loaf white bread.

There is definately a market for that during these Super recession times. Instead of committing suicide by a gun/knofe, some will load up on the calories because they are too depressed looking for jobs and paying the bills. I wonder how the Ice Cream sales are doing for Ben and Jeery, Hag N Daz, Dryers, etc? I wonder if they are seeing a spike in sales during these rough economic times?

What's the health quotient on a typical Apple Fritter?

Krispy Kreme apple fritter has 380 calories and 21 grams of fat. Probably best to avoid any food with the word "fritter" in it if you're trying to be health conscious.

The apple fritter is almost perfect. If only you could get it filled with cream cheese!
