There's a difference between censorship and enforcing site rules. There's a difference between censoring someone's opinion and encouraging people to express those opinions without personal attacks and trolling.

that often is a fine line when dealing with opinions and trying to get others to respect everyone's opinions

I agree with this. I just don't think that all of the moderators are on the same page as to which is which.

It's just worrisome when one of the moderators admits that it's now turning from enforcing site rules to using "his opinion" as to what is too negative. That's extremely subjective and a really slippery slope to start.

But I agree with Ducky, as well. It's John's site, and he is ultimately the one who has to be happy with the way things are handled. He's already stated that he's behind mylo's new style, so there isn't any question about that, at all.
THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING MY GIRL.
We could not be doing this without you.
Much love and gratitude.

I fully trust that Mylo and others will moderate as fairly as is possible. Will moderators occasionally err? Absolutely. But I'd rather see them moderating more aggressively to create a more respectful site than to continue to allow the negativity, trolling, and personal attacks that ruin this forum and sway members to not bother posting. Again, this has nothing to do with having a difference of opinion with someone; it has to do with civility and respect -- something that seems to be on the endangered species list.

I'm on a rampage to clean up some of the negativity on this site. Undoubtably, I will anger some posters, even regulars. However, I hope it will beneficial in the long run.

In the past, if you haven't broken a forum rule I personally let it slide. Now, if you post something that's not beneficial to the site or the community, please expect it to be edited or deleted entirely. You can also expect a PM from me explaining why I did so.

If you have a problem/complaint with me, please take it up with John or STD.

If you have been lurking, afraid to post because of fear of the stupid backlash, please take this opportunity to make yourself heard.

Please note that I do not read every post and will not catch everything, but I hope to at least make a little impact before I get booted wink.gif

I think this is sooooo needed. That is why I started the thread about being respectful. Everytime I come on this site (which I like by the way) there is more than a few people (usually the veterans) that shoot down everything and find negativity..It really needs to stop

I'm behind you 100%. I think the negativity has gotten out of hand.

Understanding that it is a public forum, and trying not to take it too seriously, we let people say what they want and express their opinions.

Too often, however, and it seems to be on the increase, some members feel the need to ridicule rather than discuss.

Name calling, people with an agenda, people who bring nothing to the table but criticism and negativity are bringing this forum down.

We don't want it to become a place where only nice things are said, but it is swinging to the other extreme where for many, only negative things are said.

I'll join in the deletion of negative remarks and threads, but I won't bother with an explanation unless asked. We're all old enough to know better.

I am sure it will anger some, but I hope it will be to the betterment of the forum.

Define negativity for me?

Issues that might be very near & dear to you might seem to be negative to others and postings by others might seem negative to you, yet near & dear to them.

Its fairly obvious there are cliches on here and political affilations seem to be the glue that holds these alliances together. There does seem to be double standards for enforcing name calling and other standards, but life isn't fair or perfect in the real world so I don't get too excited about this either.

I try to do my best by not calling others names or applying labels and being one of the senior most members , I can honestly say I don't EVER recall having a post deleted and a warning from any moderator.

Did some folks get kicked off after yesterday's hair pulling and name calling? There seem to be some obvious voids today.

It's like art or pornography; I know it when I see it.

An example might be when someone posts something and then gets jumped on by others, calling him/her names, ridiculing their posts, suggesting they have personal issues to deal with which have nothing to do with the original post.

Another might be when there is a tragedy and members place blame or ridicule the victims without knowing the facts.

We can still have opinions without knowing all the facts, but obviously mean-spirited remarks should be eliminated.

This is a public forum, and the public is invited to join in, but so many are afraid to for fear of public ridicule.

While we should all have a thick skin when going on a forum such as this, ridiculing people should not be viewed as sport, or fun, or acceptable.

Also, this is a business. People pay to advertise on this website. They are attracted to do so by the idea that lots of people will view their ads and buy their products and services.

If people are scared off by negativity, that means fewer eyeballs to view the ads, and fewer advertisers will want to be associated with it.
