I just started the first book, I also like to see a movie stay close to the books though. I usually like movies other people hate so I'm sure I'll like it anyhow.

I was surprised that this one was able to sneak through on a PG rating...lot's of making out and some very dark scenes.

We're hoping for good things with "Deathly Hallows" since they are splitting it up into two movies. I wonder how they are going to fill in all the holes left from the previous movies.

I guess you didn't read post # 3 by Jello in this topic.

Jello, I'm not sure what book you read, but I wouldn't say that movie was relatively close to the book.
Jolene, you're right, my apologies for believing Jello knew what he/she was talking about, I guess it's because it was what I wanted to believe.
The whole beginning was like, what's this, that's not in the book at all. And the order of sequences was off as well. And most of the interpersonal dialog between Dumbledore and Harry did not match the book at all.
Once again, and maybe even more so than Order of the Phoenix, the poetic license the director used to re-write the story really didn't work for me. I guess having read the book 5 or 6 times, I really knew the story and this movie is an abomination.
I probably would have enjoyed it more if I didn't know the book so well. Now I'm convinced I will be disappointed by the Deathly Hallows as well.
I wish Rowling would force the directors to keep to the book storyline and not re-write it.
I can see omitting stuff to squeeze it in to a feature length movie, but I detest the changing of the story in very significant ways.

I totally agree. Seems like they just wanted to bump up Bellatrix Lestrange's part for some reason. and if they wanted more action, why didn't they use the ending in the book, which is one of the most exciting scenes in all the books? Like I said, very disappointing.
trying not to spoiler for those who haven't read all the books, but they never even explained what Dumbledore had deducted about where the remaining horcruxes are. Big plot hole, IMHO.
Yes, I'm a Harry Potter geek. You got something to say about it!

I agree, if anyone watches the movies only, there are missing key points from books 5 & 6 that didn't make it into the movies which I think will leave people wondering what's going on in the final movies. Of course those will likely be re-written scripts, so who knows.
Maybe we will never see Fleur again.

I'm guessing that that's all going into the final movies to pad them. I was confused when I heard that 7 was going to be split as the first half of the book could easily be put into a 2 minute montage showing them camping around moping. I'm a huge fan myself, and though I was confused by the changes, I felt like this one at least stuck to the spirit of the book better than some of the others. I was so mad about Dumbledore's character in the last two movies. He's such a warm, loving character in the books, but the movie's make him snotty and grumpy. At least in this one he was actually likeable. I really liked this movie, only when compared to some of the others. The thing that makes me sad is that this is the one shot they have at making these movies, at least in my lifetime. I wish they would really do them justice. Or at least hire directors who have an appreciation for the books. I think that's why Lord of the Rings was so great. The team that put together she screen play, and Peter Jackson all adored the books and did whatever they could to honor the source material. I'm not even sure the director had read Harry Potter.
I know that Ms. Rowling is quite involved with overseeing the movies. I've wondered why the movies have strayed so much, but I almost wonder if it's because she still wants people to read the books. I know that it's worked for my boyfriend who never read any of them before seeing the movies. there are so many holes, he decided to read them to fill in the gaps!

Huh?!
first we have the last time at the dursley's with the planned escape being tipped off and going bad. Then the wedding at the Weasley's ending badly with the escape to safety.
Then the planning at the Orders HQ, the discovery of who RAB is and the trip to the Ministry to get the real locket. Then the camping with Ron finally bailing out. Then the disastrous trip to Harry's birthplace. and then the return of Ron and Harry finding Godric's sword.
That's way more than 2 minutes.
[Yes, I've ready the Deathly Hallows about 5 or 6 times.]

I just meant that the whole bit about Ron, Hermione, and Harry traveling around, camping, and arguing could be.

Not my fault you said the first half coud be put into a 2 minute montage, instead of could contain a 2 minute montage. Sorry if it upsets you that you got called out on your statement and now you are back pedaling on it.
and who is getting nasty? I haven't called you any names like many others on here do.
Would you prefer if I said you were a liberal fascist neocon with a disease that can't read?
