Thanks for the updates! I signed up last week for the Feb 10 orientation. If I'm accepted, my training will be in June.

I looked into this a few years back, and while I can't commit to the time now, i keep it in the back of my mind for when the kids are through college.

They'll be lucky to get you when time allows.

There are other ways to support this phenomenal organization. They host a variety of fundraising events, accept used vehicles as donations, and accept monetary donations. Visit their website for further information: www.sacramentocasa.org .

Update.....

I am very impressed with the training program, which is comprehensive and very well organized. So far we've had speakers who represent a wide range of roles related to services for foster children. Every speaker opens my eyes as to the issues these children face (particularly teens preparing for emancipation!) and the reason it is so critical to have CASA volunteers who can help push the process to get the needs of the children/teens met.

If you're interested in learning more about the program and whether or not it is a good volunteer fit for you, you can attend the next orientation:

Tuesday, April 6, 2010
6 pm
Sacramento

RSVP and/or submit questions to Kathy at (916) 875-6460 or Kathy@SacramentoCASA.org .

Thanks for your kind words. I've gone through roughly 40 hours of training, all of it very interesting and eye-opening. The real work will begin when I'm assigned my child. I hope my foot has recuperated by the time CASA is ready with a match. smile.gif

I'm happy to share that I received my assignment today. We were told it could take a few months for a match, so I'm thrilled to be able to start so soon. :D

Congradulations Deb. smile.gif From what I can tell this means alot to you and you seem like a nice person. Gosh knows there's so many kids from bad living situations who need help (well anyone really, but esp kids) whether it's a longtime mentor, financial help, someont to talk to or just to say they care.

You don't need any luck. I have full confidence you will be a good advocate always keeping the best interests of the child in mind.
