I agree as well. Others are welcome to join in, and it's great to have a Sac forum and a link to it on myfolsom, but myfolsom should remain myfolsom.

Honestly, I go straight to the forums tab all the time and don't see how this would affect the Folsom Forum. Would there be different black tabs for each area forum? Would you maintain separate news updates for each community, or would they all be lumped into one Greater Sacramento area news update?

I guess I'm wondering about factors contributing to your exploration of this idea. You work hard for the site and it seems to be attracting more wide-spread viewership. Would your proposal generate more revenue for you? If this makes sense to you from a business perspective, I can understand that. And if this can be done in such a way as to preserve our Folsomness I'd be supportive.

P. S.

As the site attracts more people from outside of Folsom, doesn't it potentially draw more people in to Folsom businesses, restaurants, events, etc?

I'm a creature of habit. I hate it everytime I get a new updated version of software and so much changes that I have to learn all over again how to do what used to be easy for me to do. I'm still hating the changes to Word & Excel I'm suffering with since the changes post 2003 software I used to use.

So my thoughts are, add what you want, as long as what I do now to surf the forum still works the same tomorrow, I won't care. I've gotten used to hitting "World" when I want to see the political discussion and to using "Today's New Posts" for the rest.
I would rather be Backpacking

I had a feeling I'd get a backlash. I'm not sold on the idea, just toying with it. In all honesty, the forums wouldn't change; we'd still talk about the same stuff. Really, the only change would be the front Folsom Forum page. We're really only talking about a header graphic here... even if I rotated images that included other communities would you feel the same?

Do you even notice when you go to Sacramento or EDH or Orangevale forums? You may not realize it, but there's a different header on those.

you know how many times I've gone into a store or restaurant --mentioned this forum--and gotten a look of surprise?

the businesses in the local area are all pleased when they are mentioned.

ps-when is the next vote on folsom's best?

I'm against the idea and I guess the reason is......I like the idea of Folsom having a web page and a forum of it's own, including the present front page.

Also, we ARE a city, just as Sacramento is a city. The only thing we share is we live in the same county.

Please don't take away what makes us different and independent of Sacramento. I don't want to be considered a part of Sacramento, as we are not.

I want to keep our unique identity and our front page announcing WE ARE FOLSOM!

Who in their right mind would go to EDH or Orangevale forums?

I concur with everyone else about Folsom having it's own identity.

I also agree, leave it the way it is. This forum is so useful, friendly and interesting. And by the way, thanks for having this great forum! I also participate in a forum in the area I come from in New York. That forum lacks any real control. People on it are just plain nasty to one another.

OK, I hear all of you loud and clear - I won't change anything yet. There still is a need to branch out a bit more, but I will figure out an alternative way.

Supermom - Best of Folsom 2010 should start in March.

Its not really backlash John, you asked for feedback, and we gave it, based on the information we have.

Now, you mention there is a reason to expand, but we the users aren't going to see that unless you let us know what it is (and you are under no obligation to do so... I am not fishing here). But from our perspective, de-localization of myfolsom.com is not a welcome idea. And to be honest, even if we knew what you were trying to accomplish, we probably wouldn't like it smile.gif

You get to walk that line between expansion of your product and retaining customer loyalty. Have fun!
