Care to tell us where you went?

I thought I replied, but my computer froze up.

We went to a very popular seafood restaurant on the edge of Folsom. Appetizers were great and so was the clam chowder. My filet was cold, dry and flavorless. It was cooked med. rare to my request. The waiter checked on us right away. I was eating my vegis and hadn't cut into my steak yet. He knew this but never came back to check on us. My husbands chippino (?) was okay. My lobster was yummy. My kids did not like the fish and chips, and said they weren't feeling well but I think it was more the excitement of Christmas. We had to wait a long time for the check and by that time I just wanted to get the heck out of there. So after a great start we ended up $170 in the whole and disappointed.

Actually there's another, better reason to not eat hamburgers that are not cooked through: E-Coli.

When you prepare a hunk of meat (e.g., steak), any E-Coli that might have contaminated the meat is on the outside; therefore when you cook it you kill the E-Coli.

However, when meat is ground up, any E-Coli that might be present is now mixed into all parts of the meat; therefore, if you do not allow the burger to come to an inside temp of 150 degrees for a minimum of one minute you run the risk of eating E-Coli.

I used to enjoy my burgers medium rare until I discovered the above. Not any more.

Thanks for that explanation. I always wondered about that!

If you went where I think you went, but won't say, you should have brought it to their attention and they would have taken care of the problem.

Anyone been to the Chico location? I was reading the reveiws on the Trip Advisor and for the most part they appear pretty good.

My friend who lived in Chico said it was really good. Part of why I'm so anxious to see this place turn out good!

5th Street got decent reviews on Yelp as well.

We'll see smile.gif

after a half hour passed with no attention I just wanted to get out of there. I usually recommend people talking with management but I was just to the point of wanting to leave.

I grew up in the restaurant business. I love Strings, and La Fiesta where the owners or employees always approach tables and ask how everything is. From what I have read Viscontis is the same. Why then, when you go into a higher end restaurant it is never that way? I love Mikuni and all the years I have been there I have never seen a manager.

The website makes the steak house look like a great experience.

Would really like if they put prices on their menu.

I hate walking into a semi-or nice reataurant and just not sure if I'm gonna spend a $100 or $200.

erhhggg---a good and proper lobster tail sounds yummy.... and the aioli butter sauce sounds good...

I agree, it would be nice to know the prices ahead of time. I hate the answer "if you have to ask, then you can't afford it". There is a difference in how much I can afford vs how much I want to pay.
I would rather be Backpacking

Exactly---cuase sadly--it seems that in American cuisine the only way to get some really good seafood is to go to an expensive steak house.

I agree with the folks whom would like to know the pricing of ANY restaurant before they visit. I know that quite some time ago when the Sutter Street Steakhouse was still in it's conceptual stage I looked up the 5th Street Steakhouse on the internet. Their webpage was one to really admire, It was a virtual tour of the insides as well as the menu and guess what? the Pricing of each menu item.... pretty novel idea huh? That however has been changed to a much more conservative and static web page, much line the one for the Sutter St. location. I think in my own little mind that it will be a destination place for those with a reason to celebrate whatever and not a casual drop in and say hello to everyone. Yes the pricing will be on the upper end but perhaps not like Ruth's Chris or Mortons... That being said I love beef, rare beef and now I'll have another viable option to challenge my carnivoreian wants needs and desires.. hehe HAPPY NEW YEAR to all of you !!

Hi there, I've been to 5th street on several occassions and it is top notch. The bbq shrimp appetizer is great, the chop salad is crisp and fresh and any steak will be a winner.

.

Their is pricing on the menu.... http://www.5thstreet...om/menu/entrees ...Filet, 6oz $24, 12 oz $32, Ribeye $25, surf and turf $29, Nicks grill which is a 14 oz NY for $32...I get that with a girlfriend and for $32 we have a huge amount of food. I believe their steaks all come with potatoes and if I remember correctly places like Ruth's Chris charges for any and all sides.

If you love a good steak it is definitely worth trying.

I got a sneak peak tour yesterday. Beautiful space. Lots of glass, dark wood, an open kitchen, balcony dining, nice bar area and a large wine display/storage in the center of the room.

They open this coming Wednesday. I'm working on getting some official photos from Brian, the owner, and took some with my phone camera, which I'll try to get uploaded.

This is going to be a very nice addition to Sutter Street. I imagine they'll be very successful as a destination restaurant.

Check 'em out.

As a sidenote, after looking at the menu the entres come with garlic mashed potatoes and all of their steaks are ala'cart and sides appear to be reasonably priced... but for the time being enjoy!!
It's too bad that they are not open for lunch... at least the 5th.Street steakhouse is open fridays for lunch..

Brian says that they do intend to start lunch service as soon as possible.
