Mmm, love Quivira. Although the whole Bio-dynamic thing still trips me out.

I went out to dinner with friends in San Mateo Saturday night. We had a great dinner and a spectacular Amador wine. The wine was Montevina Terra d'oro Zinfandel - 2005. The restaurant specialized in beef so the zin was a great choice for us.
I think I'm going to enjoy exploring the foothills wineries!

That's our favorite local winery. MonteVina has a club membership, which is free to join and you get 20% off all purchases (wine and store merchandise -- and all of your friends who accompany you get the discount, too). They'll send you quarterly announcements letting you know which three bottles are the featured club wines. If you do nothing, they'll ship them to you. Alternately, and I always do this, you can go in and taste the three. Should you not want some of them you can buy other wines. They say you're not really even obligated to buy any at all, but we always do. I love the drive, so I love the quarterly reminder to go out there.

We served their now discontinued Wild Bunch at our wedding. Sorry to see that go - it was a nice refreshing white blend. They do have some yummy wines, but the name change and double-label has me a bit confused. We went there for the Behind the Cellar Door a few years ago and they did a great lesson on paring - went above and beyond what other wineries do.
Yes, if you are a wino, you will LOVE living in Folsom! Not only is there Amador, but El Dorado had some deliscious wines as well. You'll have fun exploring the area.

Mt. Aukum, Busby Cellars, Jodar, Villa Toscano, Karmere all make wonderful Zins! They are unique in their flavors and all delish!

El Dorado Co and Amador Co have some of the best Zin and Barbera because of the foothill climate. Can't go wrong with the list above.

Where did you eat in San Mateo?
We used to love Spiedo and Ristorante Cappelini.

Don't forget Apple Hill! Boeger, Lava Cap, Madrona, Wofford and ParaVi. I haven't been to Fenton Herriott yet.
Also, the Clarksburg area is right down in Freeport Blvd. Scribner Bend, and the places at The Old Sugarmill (Todd Taylor and Carvalho are my favorites), and further down, Bogle.

Spiedo is great, I've been there several times. We had dinner at a relatively new restaurant called San Mateo Prime. It's on 3rd, a block west of B. As you can probably tell from the name, the specialty is beef. Good food excellent service but a little noisy.

Mmmmm... Spiedo. Loved that place, and Caps, of course.
You're coming to Zinfandel heaven. The wineries in Amador and Placerville/ Apple Hill are very good. I have yet to venture to Fair Play, about 20 minutes southeast of Placerville, yet, but I have enjoyed plenty of wines from there.
Well, it is Spring Break, and there should be snow there today. That could be an awesome afternoon trip today and then catch the "How to Train Your Dragon" matinee with the kids.
