It's the stretch between 50 and Iron Point.

That's a seriously long stretch...

It's also going to detract from the historic setting of the historic Sacramento Valley Railroad (circa 1856) you see there in the photograph now being used by light rail. I can't imagine how it will affect the NRHP listed mining site behind it.
Knowing the past helps deciphering the future.

Actually it is from the HWY 50 link to the Light rail overflow parking before Iron Point. But- it is almost that whole stretch and all those trees are gone- and you willl be smack visualed by a sound wall and a four story Hotel instead....

Mylo- thanks for finding the pictures.. THEY do tell a STORY ....

Another great  day in the adventure of exploration and sight.

wonder which power brokers have been hired to support or shoot down the project.

Where can we get details on the project?

For details on the project and pictures, go the website for the Heritage Preservation League, www.FolsomPreservation.org. You can also ask for copies of the staff report, etc. from the Community Development Department. The City's website provides contact information for the staff and for the City Council members, www.folsom.ca.us. Please make your voices heard at City Hall. It makes a difference, more than you might think. Thanks for your interest. Want to become a member of HPL? $10 a year.

There's already two other hotels in that same corner... is that the only place anyone is allowed to put a hotel?

Hotels can go in many of Folsom's commercial areas. Conversely, a hotel is not the only use that could be built on this site, although one could probably be designed to be sensitive to the site.

Oh my lord!!! that's huge! I love our open space entrance. It's beautiful. It's a gateway with a natural and historic feel that will be lost if this thing goes in. I love that hillside and those oaks greeting me when I get home from work.

Same here. Yikes! That is even bigger than I expected, with a 13 and a half foot wall no less.

Thanks for finding the link, mylo.

I hiked over there with the dog today. I'm not really sure what's being preserved. It's an uneven pile of mossy "Folsom potato" mine tailings, of the type familiar around Lake Natoma. It's cosmetically hidden by a berm that encloses it. (Maybe "amoebas it" would be a better description...) While there are indeed lots of trees, most of them are in the nature of a bramble. There's a hole in the fence and paper cups everywhere. Seems it's pretty clear the main use of the site is by idle teenagers from the Taco Bell and the theater.

That said, the idea of a third hotel, mere inches from the freeway, in that corner is hard to understand. I'm sure it's not a total failure as a shopping center but it's clearly not as successful as it could be either.

And it would be nice if there were something more attractive there than a hotel. It does a disservice to a burb when the person flying by on the freeway only sees the Motel 6 and the Denny's.

Somebody help me with my memory on this one, but doesn't the land owner already have approvals to build something from a previous agreement?

If that is the case, then the city doesn't have a lot of leverage and could possibly end up with something worse than what we are all looking at currently.

I'd like to see staffs recomendation and get a legal opinion from our city attorney over what options the city has.

Great, another bland design with generic features and no incorporation of the city heritage...

It's always fun to watch Bob fondle the microphone as he addresses the council. Is he in favor of the project?

I don't know how he personally feels about the hotel being constructed, but I do believe he is doing his best to get it approved as the developer attorney for Allegheny Properties.
