Just wanted to mention that both Icing on the Cupcake and Cupcake Craving are open. Both are very good, check them out.

Wow, that's interesting that both these places moved to Folsom. We tried them both last year when Icing on the Cupcake was in Rocklin and Cupcake Craving was in Sac. We actually ordered a huge amount of cupcakes last year for an event from Cupcake Craving--spent over $100 & had them delivered. Although they were good, we were pretty suprised to see how sloppily some of them showed up; some of the icing/toppings from some cupcakes on others and then to "top it off" there was a hair on one. After spending that much $ we felt something should be done; contacted the management and never heard a word back.

Cupcake Craving is awesome! My wife and I just tried it. Their cupcakes are moist and delicious, the flavors are creative, the cake part has a filling in the middle plus the frosting on top, but overall it's not too sweet - it's just right. Check out their website as it describes all the varieties:

http://www.cupcakecraving.com/

We had the S'mores, Chocolate Cheesecake, and Apple Delight. They were all great but the Apple Delight was the best.

Excuse my enthusiasm -- I go out of my way to post about good places because I want to keep them around. I don't own the place :-)

My wife says they are much better than Icing on the Cupcake, by the way.

See I much prefer Icing on the Cupcake over Cupcake Craving. I guess it's just a matter of taste.

Cupcake Craving to me seemed more like grocery store cupcakes. Kind of greasy cake part and fake frosting.

Icing on the Cupcake seems more gourmet with better quality cake and frosting.

I guess their's going to be a cupcake for every taste in Folsom! Even vegan :)

What is with this cupcake fad? It's quickly approaching "super annoying" territory.

Really? It bugs you that much? It's just a tasty treat, nothing more.

There's another cupcake place going in where the Peach Pit used to be. From what I hear, this one will make all of their cupcakes from scratch, and will have a selection of gluten-free cupcakes as well.

Ooo.... Yummy! I send GF cupcakes to school for my kids when there's a classroom birthday. Not hard to make, but I love that there will be some premade options in town.

I totally disagree with the previous poster, Cupcake Craving is far superior to Icing on the Cupcake! I have done extensive research and have come to this conclusion after several taste testings! Cupcake Craving has way more choices in flavors and their cupcakes are really moist (I hate that word so I don't use it lightly. I know, it's a wierd thing but that word just grosses me out!)
Cupcake Craving is also a tad bit cheaper than IotC.

Disclaimer: Cupcake Craving contacted me yesterday after the Telegraph article and offered to donate a ton of stuff to the fundraiser! But honestly I have tried both places and I do prefer CC over IotC. My daughter agreed as we split a Mint Meltdown and a Caramel Comfort. The Caramel Comfort was to die for! Mint Meltdown was good, but a little minty for me. But my daughter liked that one better.

Maybe I should go back and taste test both again! My 20th reunion was last weekend so my diet's off for now ;)

Tried Cupcake Craving last weekend. I won't be back. Icing was too sweet and the cupcake was dry. All the cupcakes are refrigerated so it's not surprising they aren't moist. I would rather buy Raley's cupcakes that are just as sweet but the cake is moist. Wasn't at all what I expected. Doesn't come close to homemade. I won't bother to try the others.

I've been to both places. Cupcake Craving's weren't moist... they refrigerate them a little too cold and when you bite into them the icing comes off in a big chunk and the cake part is dry. I wish they wouldn't refrigerate them because I truly think it would make a huge difference. They have a great variety though. Icing on the Cupcake is pretty much delicious. The banana is fantastic. I think they're frosting is to die for. Definitely on the sweet and rich side... probably why I can only eat half at a time. We'll just have to see if it's a fad that goes away... but I love that I can get a sweet fix and not have to make a whole cake or batch of cupcakes myself. Helpful in the portion control area of dieting when I need to "splurge" just a little ;)

I've been a HUGE Icing on the Cupcake fan for a while now. I would drive to Rocklin just for the cupcakes!! I was extremely happy when they said they were going to open in Folsom too! I have been a few times already and there is always a few people in line. I found out last week there was another cupcake place, so I had to try it just to see...I wasn't impressed. They tasted like homemade cupcakes, which is good, but not for the $$. Planning to go to Icing on the Cupcake on Sunday when my mom comes to visit. She's been wanting to try them out! Can't wait!

Now see, that's why I like Cupcake Craving over Icing on the Cupcake. Cupcake Cravings cupcakes taste homemade. Icing on the Cupcake have a sickly sweet flavor. And their icing tastes like pure sugar to me.
I guess it's just a matter of taste. I prefer the Pinkberry Yogurt over the Big Spoon yogurt anyday.

Anyone know when Rockin' Cupcake Cafe opens? (In the old Peach Pit)
Or if it already is open and have you tried it?

Ah so that's what that is. Saw the signage for Rockin but couldn't decipher the very small font for the rest of the sign from the road.

Odd though how one cupcake place comes in then soon after there are 3 for a very niche market in a small community similar to frozen yogurt shops. Still wish Peach Pit didnt close because it was unique compared to the Rockin Frog, Big Scoop, Yogurt Delite style of fro yo treats.

I agree that I much prefer Icing on the Cupcake over Cupcake Craving and the new Rockin Cupcake Cafe. I tried the newest cupcake place this weekend, Rockin Cupcake Cafe. Sampled a few of the mini sizes with some friends. Liked the oreo and coconut. The mint and vanilla with chocolate frosting were sub-par.
