Even Macaroni Grill serves fresh grated Parmesan cheese, shame on Visconti's!

Exactly! Olive Garden, too!

Olive Garden & Macaroni Grill are both too salty for my taste. I guess it's all in what you like.

It is really sad to hear of all these bad experiences. I was worried about that when they moved to the new location.

Whew! a slew of different opinions... I like that.. seriously.. As a true former traveling salesperson have eaten at Many.. shape and style restaurants according to my desires. When out on the road I more often than not dined alone, didn't phase me as I sat at the bar to eat and chat it up with the tender of the bar. Almost without any doubt they will steer you in the right direction, that notwithstanding I will say that I like Visconti's and the owners. I will have to agree with many folks that it IS pricy for perhaps standard Italian fair..Yep.. many of us could replicate many dishes in our homes for FAR less money and not have to worry about driving after a few glasses of a good red or white wine.. hehe, that's me... as for the dishes... soak 'em in the sink until morning!!! After all, I say why do today what you can put off 'till the next day... LOL

We went there a couple weeks ago. Service and food was good but for what you got it was expensive. Too expensive to go back. For a fraction of the price (and a quick internet search) I can make most of the dishes at home.

We've been a few times. I agree the service could be better. We prefer Granitas and go there almost exclusively for Italian.

I can't believe how people will go on and on about they hate chains on other threads.

Then, when we get a local success story , they come on a forum and rail them.
If you don't like it , dont go. Leave space for the rest of us.

They have survived and even grown because people do like what they're getting , not because they don't.

So you only want to see good reviews on restaurants? The whole point of giving reviews is to let others know what your experiences are -- good, bad and some combination thereof. Others are free to decide whether they want to patronize a business. Many readers find these reviews helpful. Let me go so far as to say many restaurants (probably not this one) find these reviews helpful.

In this case, chains like Macaroni grill are better then Visconti's. Success should be based on outstanding food with fresh ingredients AND outstanding service, not because the owner walks around bamboozling people with bs while serving bland food with parmesan dust and having crappy service that the owner thinks is acceptable. But it's obvious that's what many people here like and will tolerate. Maybe the people who praise that place think it's the best Italian food because they've never had really good Italian food before? I may be slightly biased because I'm Italian and have had the best both homemade and at restaurants in NYC, Chicago and the motherland, Sicily.

I think the reason it's so popular is because Folsomites can't leave their little bubble. It's not good, and it's overpriced, but it's all we have, besides Strings, that seems authentic. No self-respecting Italian would love that place. It's just not good and it's WAY overpriced.

I would LOVE for us to get a GOOD Italian restaurant.

I'm pretty spoiled when it comes to Italian food. Grew up with both grandparents from Italy that knew how to cook and take us out to good Italian restaurants when we did go out. We went there last year and have never been back for the same reasons previously mentioned.

If you do have to die, may you all pass away like my grandfather did, in his sleep...not screaming in terror like his passengers.

The market will dictate their performance. I would bet they outlast Macaroni Grill.

You're kidding me - right? Macaroni Grill? I've spent years eating all throughout the New York and Philadelphia areas - I grew up just outside of Philly - some of the best Italian food this side of the Atlantic. Heck, every time I go to Manhattan - one of the first places I go is Little Italy and, when in Philly - I always hit the 9th Street Italian Market and love a meal at Dante and Luigi's. Ohhhh the humanity.

Macaroni Grill? For shame.

I'm obviously not Italian, but I think the owners of Visconit's are Italians and I'm pretty sure they love their place.

Even in Italy, the food varies from the tip of the boot up to Rome. If you don't like Visconti's, that's fine, but I think your blanket statement regarding self-respecting Italians is way off base. I'm a dog and I don't presume to speak for all Malamutes, let alone all dogs.

laugh.gif Good point....although I do hope I'm past food service - but never say never, right?

I should have rephrased my comment. I'm Italian, and I don't find their food appealing. My mom's sauce - on a bad day, is much, much better than anything I've ever had there.

Well, of course you think your mom's is better. Same here about my dad's, but I still like Visconti's sauce. I will agree I prefer fresh parmesean, though. I guess I'm a softie that is always rooting for the mom & pop places. I'll eat at the chain restaurants occasionally, but they're just not as good.

It's all in what you like. I remember two of my Italian aunts always arguing over the best way to make their dishes. I remember one heated argument centered around oregano in the sauce.
