I am 72 and I had a colonoscopy about 5 months ago. I had one eight years earlier and had no problems with it. My doctor told me that I did not need to get one for 10 years but I decided to get it done at the 8 year point just to be safe. The results were great, no polyps or anything.

I had to drink about a gallon of Golytely which lemon flavor was added and it didn't taste that bad.

Do not be afraid to get it done. My family does not have a history of Colon cancer but it is better to be SAFE.

GET IT DONE.

Nulytely (with flavor packs). Drink 8 g 8 oz glasses in 2 hours and then an additional 4 glasses early the morning of. I have undergone two colon preps in the last 2 months (Dr was suprised to find a really big polyp-benign. I watched on camera as he removed it-kinda cool). While it is not fun, it was painless and I had no nausea or side effects. I am trying to convince my husband to get one, he is 46, and I worry about his red meat consumption..........

The way I look at it is: colon cancer can be detected with this procedure. Why not do it.

Some other cancers are not detected early enough and once they are (ovarian cancer like our daughter had) they are not
found early enough.

Get it done...

Due to a strong family history, (father and both grandmothers), I've been having regular colonoscopies since age 40. The prep is not pleasant, but I had no nausea or vomiting. Colon cancer can be largely prevented by removal of polyps. It tends to stay in one place for a while, and then metatasize to other parts of the body. Unfortunately, by the time your experiencing symptons, it could be too late. Thats whats happened to my dad. If he had gotten regular colonoscopies, perhaps he would have been able to meet his grandchildren.

So grow up and go do what you have to to stay healthy. There are lots of things we do that are not pleasant, but the alternatives are worse.
I have a hard time deciphering the fine line between boredom and hunger.

Deb Sorry for your loss.
I really do not want this to change the subject - but I have issues with the current methods of taking care _if you can call it that- of end stage cancer victims.. . On second thought - will start another topic soon..

Lets keep this about losses and what to get done while you still can

Another great  day in the adventure of exploration and sight.
