Hmm. Sorry. I don't know why. Just try googling Sacramento Bee Crime Mapper. It's the one with the scoopytube address.

yeah, sorry for the confusion.

The site came up.

But it didn't show the crime in question on the day and street in question.
I wonder if there is a lag on information processing?

Try that at my house and when the police come to pick them up the guy with the .45 pointed at him will have already pee'd himself and will be happy to be taken away by the police....!

All joking aside the lady thought quickly and did a bang up job....! Now she really does need an alarm and a gun because these guys might get out on bail or their low life friends might decide they want to visit the house their friends took a fall at....? I would also request extra patrols of that street by the police and rally the neighbors around an organized and observant neighborhood watch for the foreseeable future. Chris

FYI: This is common practice for thugs. They knock on the door or ring the doorbell and if they see/hear nothing, they figure nobody is home so they go around back and break in. So, even if you don't want to answer the door, make sure you at least turn on a light or two when someone "visits" to make sure they know someone is in the house. Just having a motion light is not enough. Those go on even when nobody is home. The thieves want to rob you, not confront you.

A few years ago I happened to get home to my place in San Diego around 2:00 a.m. after a gig. Around 3:30 or so, someone rang my doorbell several times. Thinking it was just some kids playing around, I ignored it. 10 minutes later, I hear hammering at my front door. The idiot sat back and saw that "nobody was home" so he was trying to pry open my door. I turned on the light and yelled to the guy that I had a gun and had already called the cops. He ran for the hills. The cops never caught him. I don't ignore a knock or doorbell anymore.

Catch 22 on this one. If you have a side light type front door where they can see through......be careful if you're home alone. They might see that whomever is home at the time doesn't mean much of a threat and attempt to break in anyways. I'm pretty sure that anyone knocking on the front door after hours like that doesn't mean any good. Not really sure how some should handle this. Anyone?

While ANYTHING is possible, and it's a great idea to have an alarm and perhaps a weapon, . I think these guys' friends would more likely consider them dumbasses and not bother making one to two hour drive so they too can get busted. I think that sort of retaliation is more common with fights and shootings than with burglars.

This is true. My nephew and his buddies cut school some years ago, and one of them decided they should break into a house. They picked a house, rang the bell and knocked on the door. With no reply, they broke into the garage. They were soon confronted by an armed and angry home owner who held them at gun point until the cops came. He could have killed them, but saw that they were just kids. They were very lucky that day.

If you feel the need to let them know you are home, you can shout through the door that you've called the cops...and mean it.

Arrests made in string of Folsom burglaries
A VETERAN Whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America" for an amount "up to and including their life". That is HONOR, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it. -Author unknown-

I know 2 people that doing something different:

One shows their gun right through the window, no question that someone's home !

Second one opens the door real quick, and takes a picture with a digital camera , then shuts it. Theory is that it's not their first time and that a photo is worth 1000 words.

Arrests made in string of Folsom burglaries

Just read the 10/23 police log and the other 2 burglaries noted in the article happened the same night as the one on Fenswick. Unreal!

So glad they caught them.

Idiots.

I figure they recently passed through Folsom, maybe visiting family or friends and thought it this town might be a soft and lucrative target.

Surprise!

Great job, Folsom PD.

Interesting theory; otherwise it seems odd that they would end up on a street so far from the nearest freeway access, given that they were from out of town. I thought burglars tried to ensure an easy escape (you, know, like jumping on the next light rail train when it arrives 25 minutes later -- sorry, but no-one had blamed this one on light rail yet...), and they also picked a neighborhood with only one way in and out. Not so bright. But then, I guess we've established that higher intelligence is not a prerequisite for criminal behavior.

So, what is it about BMWs, anyway? They seem to be a bit like pit bulls lately -- harmless in the right hands, but trouble when they fall into the wrong ones, and they seem to be falling of late! Successful criminals, or stolen BMWs?

As a victim of a burglary two years ago it's so great to hear these thugs got caught. At my house they entered through a dog door in the backyard just like they did one of the houses on Glen Mady Drive. These dog doors are not safe and the burglars know it. They got into the other homes by breaking windows. If you have an alarm system you aren't necessarily safe either. You need to have motion and glass break sensors. When I arrived home (middle of a weekday) the guy was still inside and ran out the same way he came in, the dog door, so he wouldn't set off the alarm and then got away. Needless to say, we no longer have a dog door and now have motion and glass break sensors. Great job to Folsom PD for the quick response time. Just sucks to see that 1 of the 3 is already out of jail and probably back at home thinking about the next crime to commit. You can view inmates currently in jail on http://www.sacsheriff.com.

That's the thing. Burglars want to get in and out, so it is unlikely that they 3 guys from 3 different cities would come together and drive 80 miles or so to a town they were unfamiliar with to break into houses.

Maybe I just don't think like a criminal, but wouldn't they want to choose a neighborhood they were familiar with?

We were hanging out at home (in the Parkway) on Saturday night when our doorbell rang at 10:38pm. I remember looking at the clock wondering who would be at our door that late at night. When my husband answered it a few minutes later a guy in a car asked if "Josh was home". My husband told him he had the wrong house. He said "No I don't. He is on your roof." My husband told him again that it was the wrong house and closed the door. We checked the inside of the house immediately and the outside of the house a few minutes later after the car left. Now that I hear this story I think it may have been the burglars and perhaps the guy in the car was stalling waiting for his
friend(s) to get back in the car. The next house they hit was only minutes away. I am wondering if the news might just have the exact time wrong in the report. It could just be a big coincidence too. Did anyone else out there have a similar experience? Also, we had two cars parked in the driveway and the hall light on--wouldn't potential burglars assume we were home?
